SSE Easy Permanent Solution To Dark Face Facegen Bug
sleepysugarlump replied to valscarr's topic in Skyrim's Mod Ideas
Every time I've had the dark face bug, the solution hasn't been to regenerate facegen data (although I've no doubt that this is occasionally the solution). The issue has been a conflict between mods. Recently I installed WICO and then Bijin Warmaidens. After getting the dark face bug on Aela and checking things out in SSEEdit, I discovered that a WICO patches was getting loaded after Bijin Warmaidens and this was the cause of the bug. Moving the patch above Bijin Warmaidens in the load order resolved it, without any need to regenerate facegen data. I wouldn't be surprised if this is what is happening in most dark face bug instances. In which case, the correct solution is to sort out load order. In cases where facegen data needs to be regenerated, I think doing so is still a better solution than running scripts repeatedly against every on-screen NPC. -
What do you call 10,000 lawyers, buried up to their necks in sand? Not enough sand. Why did Princess Diana cross the road? Because she wasn't wearing a seatbelt. Paris Hilton is being driven through the countryside when suddenly a cow walks onto the road in front of the car. The driver doesn't have time to brake, and the car hits the cow, killing it instantly. The driver tells Paris Hilton that he's going to walk to the farmhouse to inform the farmer of the accident, and that he'll be back soon. Paris waits for hours, and eventually it's dark by the time the driver returns. He has lipstick marks on his cheeks, and smells strongly of alcohol. "Sorry I was gone so long," he says. "When I told the farmer, what happened, he insisted on inviting me into the house. Then he told his wife what I'd said, and she cooked a special meal for me. Then their beautiful 18 year old daughter got very friendly with me, and gave me a massage. Then the farmer took me down to the local pub and everyone was buying drinks for me for hours." Paris can hardly believe what she's hearing. "Why on earth did they treat you so nicely?" she asks. "I don't know," replies the driver. "All I said was 'Hi, I'm Paris Hilton's driver, and I've just killed the cow.'"

Yeah, that would be cool. Perhaps something similar to the Imperials vs. Stormcloaks? Two morally ambiguous sides whom the player can either join or ignore. Skyrim's main quest is cool, but I think the civil war storyline would have been strong enough to build a game on, especially if they'd fleshed it out a bit more in the way that the Warzones mod does. Haha, oh I love that. Divorce proceedings, and the player can forget to turn up so the NPC gets custody of the kids. There's no way I'm leaving that out of the game now. Taking the NPC out on quests or daytrips is a nice idea and could definitely help the player to become attached. I definitely want there to be an emotional engagement, even if it's subconscious, so that the player isn't marrying just for the cooked meal and pocket money that a Skyrim spouse provides. Absolutely. The things discussed in this thread have been broad mechanics that could apply to any gender and sexual orientation. The reason I specified female-player-male-NPC in my original post is because I'm really looking for the subtle differences in how those mechanics would play out. A male NPC will converse and flirt with a female player differently to how a female NPC would a male player, or indeed to how an NPC would converse and flirt with someone of their own gender. It's not an issue in Skyrim, because the relationships aren't deep enough to warrant that level of granularity, but the key aspect that I'm aiming for in my game is realism. With that in mind, I'm seeking help because I'm a straight male and only have experience of being a straight male in a relationship with a straight female. I'd love some input on how to handle sexual orientation in-game. Since my main concern is realism, I'm reluctant to go the Skyrim route of making every eligible NPC bisexual, but the realistic option is to assign NPCs an orientation, which would be frustrating for all players. Sid Meier's Pirates avoided the issue entirely, by forcing the player to be a straight male, but I don't want to introduce limitations where they needn't exist. Thoughts? @Vagrant0 I bought "Summer Session", a dating sim, and gave it a try. It's been very helpful, especially in how to form the dialogue trees and spread them out over time. All the girls available represent a different male fantasy, with some hilarious results, but the system is sound. It's tricky finding any others that are in English though. Any recommendations for visual novels?

Ah, yeah, Evochron! Forgot about that one. Bought it on steam (a week after the sale  ). It looks really good, but I haven't had a spare 900 hours to go through all the tutorials yet. The controls are extremely comprehensive, and somehow allow for *optional* newtonian physics. Ingenious!

Regarding distraction from the main quest, my thinking so far has been to just not have a main quest, and replace it with various long term goals that the player may or may not aim for. "Space Trader" for Palm OS simply gave the player the optional task of earning enough money to buy their own moon, and then left them to it. I think there's potential for development along those lines. That's a good idea. Any in particular that you'd recommend?

That sounds a lot better and more comprehensive than what's currently in-game. I absolutely love the idea of your spouse writing to say they miss you. Thanks for the great reply, lots to think about. Truth. The only man I found who wanted to marry me was scruffy and old. In fact, I think he was actually homeless. Sure, I've stolen from an orphanage and pickpocketed beggars, but it doesn't mean I don't have standards!

I need some help. I'm trying to make my own RPG, and one feature that it will share with Skyrim is the ability to marry NPCs. But as a man, I'm having a little difficulty writing the romance scenes for dating male NPCs. I just don't know how to go about it. So my questions are, what would you be looking for in an RPG relationship? What would make you care about it as a player? Which Skyrim NPC did you marry, and why? Thanks in advance :)

EVE's take on PvP is part of what makes it what it is. By making every flight a risk, EVE creates a specific atmosphere that is essential to the game. It drives the creation of player corps, keeps you watching Local, makes you take your life in your hands each time you make a journey. Do you go the quick route and hope no ones camping the gate? Do you fly straight from the gate to the station and risk being bubbled? Do you carebear your way around highsec and try not to get war-decced? Honestly, I want to like EVE. I sank a lot of money into trying to like it. It's thrilling and atmospheric and free (as in freedom). It's a more truly open world than any other yet created. But for me, there are two problems. Firstly, there is little to no skill element involved. Sure, a little savvy can go a long way, but once you're locked in combat you can do nothing except watch the maths do its work. Secondly, I never managed to find a corp that was relaxed enough. I work long hours and have lots to do in my spare time, so when I do play a game I want to have fun. EVE can only be fun if its players recognise that it's just a game, and I could never find anybody who did. Oh, and grinding. I cannot and will not grind in any game, ever. I'm glad it's there as an option for people who are into that, but I just can't do it without wanting to shoot myself. Back on topic, Oolite is a free remake of Elite with better graphics. One of the more basic space trading games, but a complete and refined experience. It also has a lot of mods which add quite a bit of functionality.

18 pages and nobody's mentioned Elite? It was the greatest game of all time! Chuckie Egg was also a lot of fun. That's what I played whenever I went to my grandma's house. Oh, and Skyroads. Absolute classic :D
