  1. I think when we are looking at Update or Optional files for a particular mod we should be able to set the Sort by to our personal preferences site wide in Preferences, without having to do it individually for each mod every time we open its Files. For example (in my current case) Ancient Dwemer Metal - My patches for SMIM Dawnguard Dragonborn by Xtudo (and there are others guilty of this as well) has A LOT of optional files to choose from with no auto-FOMOD. I've already selected them initially for my mod list, but if another file is added or the existing ones are updated it would make sense (to me) to have them sorted to the TOP of the Optional or Update files list, thus making Date Uploaded > Desc the default sorting method. That way instead of looking through 146 separate files for whatever has changed or manually setting the Sort by every time you go into a different mod you could set that in the Preferences to sort the list however it makes most sense to you. For me that would be whatever has been changed in the mod or added is always at the top of those lists and you would be able to easily discern if it is something that affects your modlist. Hopefully that makes sense...
  2. Thanks for the heads up, Dark0ne. That is pretty much what I figured about the servers. I couldn't log in before when I saw your reply to acknowledge I saw this, so there seems to be a little progress so far. I used to hate getting called in on Saturdays when I messed with servers. I'm sure doing it on a holiday weekend is not making it any easier to fix this.
  3. I'm logged into my Nexus account, but I keep getting an Internal Server Error when trying to log into Vortex. Usually I stay logged in, but I woke up to the request to log in this morning. It says on the authorization website that I successfully logged in when I try it, but Vortex is still not logging in. Is anyone else having these issues? When I shut it off last night I was having no issues. I haven't updated Vortex on my end recently but it gives me a warning that it Failed to log in. I am a premium member, if that helps. EDIT: The mod site seems to be reacting really slowly, for me at least, so maybe its an issue on their end.
  4. Whatever happened to the Picta Series mods? ENB Particle Light and A Critters Life? Are they deleted permanently, is he working on something new, did he rename the project, etc? I see a few links with Picta Weather in them, but there is not much about this.
  5. Sorry. I had forgotten I wrote this. Thanks for the answers. I got everything I needed to download completed. And I apologize for posting this here. I thought I was on the Vortex forum but that was on a different tab.
  6. Hi guys, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought if we purchased a premium membership (I did quite some time ago) we basically had unlimited downloads. I'm updating a LOT of mods rom my previous play-thru and I'm getting this message in Vortex and that I won't be able to download until the next hour. Is that just unlimited bandwidth and NOT unlimited downloads or is there an issue? I'm sure no one will answer before my time limit is up. I'm just curious so I can plan accordingly.
  7. That is what I'm hearing elsewhere, but I'm still holding out hope.
  8. So I'm guessing this has to do with Bethesda archiving everything. Crud, I thought all the modders who were going to drop out had done it by now. Not sure how to replace ASM in the future if I need to. Or if he has decided to post it elsewhere. Good thing I have backup copies that now get put into my KEEP folder.
  9. So does anyone know why Mebantiza took Another Sorting Mod down? I'm hoping it is because he is doing work on it or something along those lines. NOT because someone has finally managed to piss him off enough to pull his mods with their inane questions. And yes, I am guilty of that too.
  10. Hmmm. Sorry about that. Seemed nonsensical to me at the time and now I know why. Vortex hadn't finished sorting before I started SSEEdit. So ignore that question. However, that brings me to another question. Vortex is sorting Skyrim Farmhouse Inns after Embers (I created a rule per SFI's authors advise), so all the changes it makes "should" take precedence. However the Embers fires are still floating in that room apart from the new fireplace. All of SFI's info is the last loaded, but I'm getting both. Do I need to make a patch just carrying over those changes from SFI, even tough they are last? Seems unlikely that I should need to go into Embers and delete stuff, especially if you later remove SFI for some reason. How exactly do I get rid of Embers floating meshes so I just have those from SFI? Sorry if this seems incredibly noob-ish for asking. But I am when it comes to this. EDIT: Oooh. SFI is last in the order. Do I need to do an override from Embers into the patch and delete Embers information somehow? Or is the order even correct? I value the author's opinion, but Embers may be arranged differently somehow, so maybe it SHOULD come last? EDIT 2: Crud. Switching the load order just brings me back to the original question, so I am completely lost now. I guess I should mention in that first question that the coordinates that aren't colored red are still yellow-green. Sorry. Still colorblind. Still using it as an excuse. :)
  11. I'm having an issue with patching. Probably because it is only my second one and I haven't run into this problem yet. Or I haven't noticed it. I am trying to create a patch between EmberXD - the hd.esp - and Skyrim Farmhouse Inns. The Ember's fires are still present but in many cases the firepit is no longer there as it has been moved or become a fireplace. It seems to be relatively straight-forward, copying over red lines of information into the patch from the various cell blocks affected. But halfway through I noticed that the x,y,z information, while all completely different, only has one or two highlighted in red. I'm not sure what to do in those instances. I'm copying over the information from SFI to the patch, overriding Embers, but that is only the red marked stuff. What about the coordinates that are different, but not highlighted? If that is the new position of the item (which I could be totally off-base on) then wouldn't you need to carry all of those numbers over? Why aren't they all red?
  12. So I am completely lost here. I have been using T'Skyrim Riverwood for quite some time so I'm not sure why this is happening now. And actually it is not even just that mod, I just noticed it first. I think anything that uses the candlelanternwithcandle01.nif is affected. I basically have the mesh/shape active in-game, but it has no textures. So a brief idea of what I have tried: Validating game file integrity with STEAM Restarting a new game Looking into the Skyrim-Textures3.bsa to see that the texture is actually there (it is) Manually placing the texture file in textures/clutter/common/lampgeneric01.dds (the path indicated in the mesh/clutter/common/candlelanternwithcandle01.nif) Re-ran DynDOLOD Re-ran Wrye Bash Re-ran Nemesis Performed a clean save with Fallrim Tools in the Riverwood Trader Ran just Nemesis and Wrye Bash without DynDOLOD's esm/esp active. The texture was still missing in-game. Re-installed any related T'skyrim, Riverwood or Lanterns II mods after re-downloading them. Checked the relevant nif and texture paths to make sure they were correct. Restarted my computer. Checked with informative console to identify various lanterns, including those in Lanterns II and JK's Riverwood and T'Skyrim Riverwood, all with that nif name. I have no idea why it can't find this texture. It is there. I can view it in Irfanview. Does anyone have any other ideas that might fix this? It is annoying. EDIT: Hmmm. May be on to something here. ENB Light also screws with that nif. I'm right clicking on that mod in VORTEX, selecting manage conflicts, and on that particular mod it gives me two mod options to control the model. ENB LIGHT and SMIM. Guess I'll try the other one to see if it works. Just takes forever to run things with 800+ mods active. Maybe there is a path problem after all... EDIT: That appears to have been it, but all I did was switch it from ENB Light to SMIM and then back to ENB Light again. Ran Wrye Bash and it appears to be good. Didn't even need to switch permanently to SMIM, which was my next step. Sometimes it helps to write things down. And sometimes you realize Skyrim is just a weird-@$$ game. I guess we can ignore my plea for help. Someday I'm going to solve a problem just BEFORE I ask for help, not after.
  13. @ TheGreatFairo, that's probably what it is then. I'm pretty sure it was in the Vortex.log, anyway, when I saw it and got concerned. Now that I have Skyrim Performance Monitor installed I'll make sure to check what kind of VRAM my Whiterun has got running, since I am sure that is probably my hardest hit area. I'm thinking of uninstalling EEK's or JK's. I know EEK's is a resource hog, but I really like it. @ anjenthedog, I'm one of those people with the VORTEX shortcut to SKSE. I've always had that, all the way back to MO1 and LE. Thank you for noting it, though. At least I feel a lot less concerned now. Thanks to everyone for the replies.
  14. Thank you Moksha8088. I have the latest ENB series. I'm ASSUMING I have the latest drivers. I run Driver Booster and I'm 90% sure I saw that driver when I updated the other day. I will check to make sure. Can you think of any way to increase the number if all I am using is 4GB out of 12? Should I be running software like GeForce Experience or something? Any suggestions? I have an EVGA (NVIDIA) GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. EDIT: I actually downloaded Skyrim Performance Monitor (thought I had that installed) and it is showing 11,264 (MB) of Total VRAM. So it is weird that the log is only saying 4GB. Maybe something left over when Window 10 fixed their limitation? Who knows? I guess I can handle EEKs Beautiful Whiterun, JK's Whiterun, Fortified Whiterun, Autumn of Whiterun plus a few more, so I guess it is working. Haven't had an issue since updating to a new PC (besides conflicts I am in the process of fixing). I'm curious about the 4GB in the log now, though. This is when having a touch of OCD gets REALLY annoying. It's always in the back of your head.
  15. I know Windows 10 fixed the bug that limited SSE to 4GB a while back. But I just noticed something that concerns me. I've read that Skyrim can't necessarily handle newer video cards like mine, a 2080ti, and the game automatically sets it to low setting. I get around that using BethIni on Ultra and things seem to have worked fine. At least so far. While looking through various logs to find out why I was crashing at a certain point at the beginning of the game in Whiterun, I noticed one log mentioned the memory was rapidly rising (800+mb) and showed a limit of 4.05GB. I believe it was the Vortex.log. My card has 12GB of ram and my PC has 64GB. So is that correct on its reporting? Am I still limited to 4GB somehow? How would I change that? Or is the game just reporting that number due to the game not "recognizing" the GPU? My Windows 10 is up-to-date. I also use SSE Engine Fixes which messes with memory, but its never been adjusted in that mod.
  16. Thank you for the reply. Guess I remembered wrong or misunderstood what I read. No big deal, really. I was just looking at mods I could adjust for a cleaner install and these were on the list. I guess if I ever get desperate for slots in my load order I'll look at this again. But I'm being rather picky at the moment with what I install, so I still have plenty of slots left.
  17. I'm not an expert on those things either, that is why I posed the question. I know other people have mentioned changing the esp name for JK's mods in other threads, I'm just not sure how it would cascade downhill. In theory, it should work. In practice... who knows? I can live with the way I have things set up, I'm just trying to make things easier for future mods on this new PC. I guess when you are setting up a play-thru you can take a few liberties when you intend to start a new game once everything is in place. I'll wait on someone with more experience with mod merging and patching to put in his or her two cents on this subject before I make the decision to go that route. I appreciate your answer though. It has led me down a new train of thought I hadn't really considered. I'm pretty sure I've seen author responses saying an individual mod would still get the changes from something like JK's AIO, I just never considered if it would effect cities where I didn't use it.
  18. Over the past few months I have slowly converted (as I got to them) a number of JK's LE mods, mostly the big cities. I'm pretty sure they are working correctly, so this is just a hypothetical because I am trying to clean up my mod list. Amongst other reasons. If I take those mods I have converted can I merge them into a single plugin and name it with the same esp JK's Skyrim uses? I know you could do it with the LE version so I'm assuming you can. I'm just not sure about the naming of the esp. Plus I've gotten tired of all the other mods out there making a patch for JK's Skyrim and not the individual mods from LE since most of them are not in SE. Some people have been pretty good about doing patches for Whiterun, but I have a few of the other cities out there I could stand to pay the same attention to. Besides, this will save me space in the long run and make it easier in the future. If I name it with the same name as the esp I am assuming I can then use all the various patches for Skyrim rather than hoping someone releases a version I want for the individual cities. I use a great number of soldierofwar's Great City/Town Series and a few others like Ozymanius's Ivarstead, so I don't want to use the full JK's Skyrim. The video on JK's Skyrim for removing cities from the esp and patches seems extremely tedious at best, so I was hoping this might work as an acceptable alternative to getting rid of so many cities and fixing so many patches. The task seems daunting at best. Anyone know if this would work?
  19. That's another reason I prefer Vortex. Takes the LOOT issues out of my way. Bringing it all the way back to my initial mods did work on the saves, though, so at least that is good. Now I just need to figure out where in the next 600 mods my problems lay. Thanks for your help.
  20. Thanks for that info about Better Messagebox and Better Dialogue. They could be the culprit why I couldn't exit the cave before without crashing. I have started a new game with just the basics installed and planned on getting through the cave before I load anything else. As you suggested, I will be adding 5-10 mods at a time and then test. Going to take a while to get 600+ mods loaded again, but I should have realized that just shoving them all in there and having LOOT sort them wasn't going to work. This is Bethesda, after all, and its their DUTY to make this as difficult as possible. I'm no longer in IT, so I could have probably lived with the Windows 10 Home edition, but I just prefer Pro. Its what I've always used. I had originally intended to use MO2, but I have some Nahimic Drivers that interferred with it, ie blank popup screens, etc. So I reloaded everything in Vortex. Then I finally figured out how to get rid of the drivers (they kept reinstalling when I powered up the PC) so I went back to MO2. This was because someone suggested that I use it instead for my type of play (I spend more time messing with mods than actually playing thse days). However, something else glitched at the end (I forget what) so I just restarted over in Vortex. Probably should have just stayed here anyway, as that is what I am used to and organizing/installing my mods does seem to be easier using it. I put everything Skyrim related on its own drive, as I like to keep my C:\ drive as empty as possible, ie OS and Office (but only because I never figured out how to stick it on another drive). And of course there is some User info, but most of my Data I keep on a separate drive. So I have C: for OS, E for Skyrim, F for Programs, and G for Data, with D being my 4T external harddrive I religously do backups to (because I'm paranoid about loosing stuff). Those are 1TB NVME M.2 drives. I haven't transferred my other SSD and manual drives yet from my other computer, but I will get there. Priorities. Skyrim first. And yes, I do keep a library of files as well as a KEEP folder. Some mods I have in the KEEP folder are things I have personnally converted from LE that haven't been done yet, or mods that people release that get taken down by moderators for some reason or another. Or something like TKAA, where the author just pulled it offline because people were abusing it.
  21. Your post is not falling on deaf ears, anjemthedog. I did acknowledge you were pretty much right about it being a red herring of sorts after I spoke with my nephew and he had the same settings. Windows 10 will just take a bit of getting used to, but it is nice to know they take a bunch of decisions out of my hands. Now I know who to curse under my breath as I am finding workarounds. I stayed with Windows 7 for this long for a reason. I have Norton, which (supposedly) automatically disables Windows Defender. My nephew, who has much more experience with Windows 10, said Defender is all he uses. So maybe it has improved enough to let my Norton subscription die out and just go back to the original. I actually installed STEAM on my E:\ NVME M.2 drive. I was just sure to keep it separate from my mods since I went back and forth between MO2 and Vortex so much. I have them on the same drive though. I do have Windows 10 Pro. It is a personal preference which comes from my IT days. I've had plenty of exposure, it was just to older OS's. Certainly enough to play with permissions, at least on them. Windows 10 may be another story. My computer is pretty decent as I just had it put together. Took me a while to get all the parts because of COVID, but it is i9-10980XE, 2080ti gpu (jackasses came out with the 3080 the week after I got it), all nvme m.2 drives, a crapload of RAM I can expand up to 256GB on this motherboard, and a lot of bells and whistles I assured the wife wouldn't cost much as I steadily rose above the $5K limit she gave me. But she only lets me get one every 10 years or so, so it had to be up to snuff. I will take a look at that link by smr1957. I'm also reverting back to my "initial" mods setup, ie the basics everything else builds on, like XPSME, USSEP, CRF, etc. Thank you. Its probably going to be what I was looking for in the first place. EDIT: Hmmm, sorry I posted twice in a row. I didn't notice the page changed so I thought my last post got "lost" in the internet somewhere. Really having a blonde day.
  22. So I chatted with my nephew and his son (who built this computer) and they said it appears to give full permissions as the default settings unless an administrator other than yourself is involved. So, as anjenthedog said, this is something of a red herring. Something like a "I say Read Only, but I don't really mean it" type of thing. My nephew had the same settings on his computer, as well. I guess we are back to mod interference, then. Which is weird, because these mods worked in this load list on my Windows 7 computer. But then again, I started a new game when I switched to Windows 10 on this new computer, so maybe something is different when you do that. I haven't started one in a while, so I will go with that excuse for now. I'm just going to go back to the beginning and try one more time. Then I think I'm done with it if I can't get it to work. I don't mind spending some time to get things to work, but two weeks is getting a little stupid. I['m sure my wife can find things for me to do with my extra time.
  23. Sorry, had to get an oil change this morning. The wife never tells me it needs one until about 1000 miles after the sticker date, so this morning she got check engine/oil lights on the way to work. Probably still expecting too much for her to remember next time. Anyway, permissions for the Documents folder are the same, Read Only. Same thing happens though. Untick the Read Only box and it just reappears after you re-open properties. I don't know how Microsoft thought this was a good idea. I use Norton Antivirus and don't see any way to whitelist a program. I can exclude the folder from my Norton scans, but that seems kind of dangerous. Who knew Windows 10 was going to be such a PITA to upgrade to for a ten year old game? EDIT: I tried excluding it in Norton for the Documents folder and all its subfolders etc to no effect. Really not understanding why my permissions is not allowing this. EDIT 2: So I chatted with my nephew and his son (who built this computer) and they said it appears to give full permissions as the default settings unless an administrator other than yourself is involved. So, as anjenthedog said, this is something of a red herring. Something like a "I say Read Only, but I don't really mean it" type of thing. My nephew had the same settings on his computer, as well. 24. I looked at that link, saurusmaximus, and typed in controlled folder into my Cortana search and got a message that says: Page not available Your It administrator has limited access to some areas of this app, and the item you tried to access is not available. Contact IT helpdesk for more information. Just dandy. It sounds like I do not have administrator permissions somehow, but ALL of my user accounts have admin priviledges. https://imgur.com/0CswgW4 https://imgur.com/JaxfY5e And that stupid tick mark is STILL there. https://imgur.com/zz9TDMK Am I looking at something completely wrong? I realize I'm no expert on Windows 10 having only used it for two weeks, but it shouldn't be that different from Windows 7. I think Microsoft had there heads someplace they weren't supposed to be when they came up with this idea.
  25. I'm into Windows 10 (from Windows 7) for all of 2 weeks and I've decided this program sucks big time. When I start a new game I CTD whenever I try to go into another cell or save. I spent a lot of time online trying to resolve this issue and finally hit upon a possible (probable) cause. My Documents>My Games>Skyrim Special Edition folder where I save all my games to is read only. So it won't write a new save. I've tried everything I know or could find on line, ie changing the permissions, changing where it saves the game by editing the skyrim.ini, etc. Everytime when I untick the button or change the permissions it either come back ticked or tells me I have hiberfil, pagesys,Program Files, etc open on the C drive and it can't do it. This is getting extremely frustrating. Actually, its pissing me off. Does anyone know how I can fix this? I can disable the hiberfil but how the hell do you close Program Files and other required files while the computer is running? Microsoft in their infinite genius is basically blocking me out of half my C drive because of some stupid security BS. I'm running Norton, not BitDefender or Windows Defender, so some of the resolutions I've seen don't seem to apply to me. But I also don't seem to see a spot where I can whitelist this folder in Norton, either. Sure, there is an "exclusions" listed, but no way to click on or update anything in there. Any help is appreciated, because I have reloaded 600+ mods four times in the last two weeks using MO2, then Vortex, then MO2 again after I figured out how to get rid of some incessant drivers that fubar'd it, then back to Vortex because I was still having other issues with MO2. I'm pretty damn close to just chucking this whole game, but if this issue exists for Skyrim it probably is going to cause me issues with any game I play. EDIT: Oh yeah, any accounts I have on this computer, ie admin, user, etc all have full permissions. I don't know why this folder won't stay unticked.
