Daggerfall mod issue with entering Temples
snuke12 replied to snuke12's topic in Mod Troubleshooting
I narrowed it down to the Beautiful Villages mod. I'm not sure if it needs to be moved in the load order, but I'm going to trial and error it. Guessing it needs to be before DREAM but not sure yet. -
Not sure which mod is causing the problem but all of a sudden, when trying to enter various temples (Mara, Kynareth, etc.) I get the "This house has nothing of value" message. I noticed it happening randomly and now it happens all the time. And if a quest requires entrance to a temple, there's no work around. Can't pick lock, break in etc. Has anyone experienced this? Any idea what might be causing the issue?

That's pretty good from memory! I searched around and found someone that said he turned off the bhookcriticalsections so I set mine from what it was, '1', to '0'. That did the trick - sounds are back to normal. Hopefully that doesn't mess anything else up. But no crashes on exit since so that's a win!

Well, I installed the updated OSR and it works! Problem is, now I have missing sound effects (battle clanging of swords, shields, etc.) and the game hangs when loading saves sometimes. Case of a fix causing more problems than it solves? Maybe I can turn off some OSR options in the .ini. Just not sure which ones.

Will do. Thanks!

Oh! I thought I had the latest version. The readme says I only need to delete the older .dll file from the plugins folder before installing the new one so I should be ok. Funny thing: last night I exited and it did not crash at all. I hadn't changed any settings so I have no idea what went RIGHT. haha. Thanks, Contra! Hopefully the new version will work better for me.

This is the text for the .ini file. Couldn't find "exit" anywhere. Am I going insane or do I have the wrong file somehow?
-
I checked the .ini file but since I part-newb I wasn't able to figure out if it was enabled. What line is it, do you know?
-
Yep, I use Wrye Bash. And I have OBSE installed - so WB is running OBSE, right? So that should be fine. I launch the game with the obse_loader.exe.
-
Well now the crash on exit issue seems exactly like it was. Again, not a big deal but I wish it wouldn't do that. Is there anyway to tell if the OBSR plugins are installed correctly so I know they are working? I think I put them in the right folders but since the game still crashes on exit, I'm wondering if they aren't working.

This is a must. Striker, everything you wrote should be in a readme file that comes with all mods. I've learned a ton here. And yeah, doing the manual (dinosaur) method has been helpful for me too. I did a few manual installs before I started using wrye bash. I started to get a better conceptual framework of how they work that way. But I was also a bit fraidy-scared that I would totally destroy the game. I made a backup of my oblivion data folder before installing any mods just to be safe. I also download my mods to a separate folder in another hard drive and use that to extract them to subfolders and check them out. Smart tips! Very helpful, forli. I wasn't aware of that at all. I thought you had to install first to find out the conflicts. WB is a lot more advanced than I knew.

Nice. I did that and it appears to work. Only issue is there is still a crash error popup when exiting the game but its not as severe as previously. Not sure if installing fastexit2 will help. This isn't a huge issue since I can still exit but I sorta wish the game had no crash issues at all.

OK, so basically the content of the zip file's data folder simply goes into the oblivion/data folder?
-
It certainly is. Thanks again!
-
New question, the directions for installing the stutter remover say to copy the Data folder from the zip file to your oblivion folder. Obviously this can't be correct as doing so would overwrite the Oblivion data folder. So I'm not sure exactly where those .dll files need to go..... I'm assuming Oblivion\Data\obse\plugins ?

Awesome, thanks for the help. Definitely on my way to installing a bunch of those plugins.

Since getting my mod order together, the only problem I've experienced is that it consistently crashes when exiting the game. I know this is a very common problem so I DLed the FastExit2 mod. But I was curious if there were any other solutions. Especially since I just recently had the game crash during the game, not when exiting, and I'm not sure why. It hasn't happened more than once but I'm worried it could become more frequent. Aside from the official and unofficial patches, are there any other crash fix mods or plugins that one should always use?
-
What system are you running it on? What are you using to install your mods? Are you using BOSS to arrange your mod load order?
-
That makes sense. At this point, I shouldn't have many "replacer mod" issues since I'm only using a few mods and they all affect different aspects of the game. But now I understand what to look for. Thanks once again.

Enhanced Economy Installation issues
snuke12 replied to snuke12's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
You guys are the best. Now I have such a better conceptual framework of how to properly test and use my mods. Thanks a million to you both. -
Side question: One of my mods has a yellow checkbox instead of green in Wrye Bash. The readme says "All the package files are installed, but some resource (ie. non-plugin) files are not identical (eg. another package has overwritten them with another version of the files)" I'm assuming that this is OK and the mods should work. The readme mentions something about running "Anneal" but I'm not quite sure what that means. Will the mod safely work since everything is green in the mod tab? I figure packages overwriting others is common when using a lot of mods.

Enhanced Economy Installation issues
snuke12 replied to snuke12's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
That's funny because I have been making sure to save right before the sewer exit so that I can simply go back and change my character from there if I want to start a new one. I just wasn't sure if it was still OK to load that save if I changed mods in wrye bash. When you say the "outside the sewer save is for testing mods", what exactly do you mean? If I try a new mod, I should load the outside the sewer save to see if it works? -
Enhanced Economy Installation issues
snuke12 replied to snuke12's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
Right after I posted that question I noticed those sub-categories and checked off the ones needed. That should probably work although I haven't had a chance to get in the game to test it yet. I'm hoping I don't need to start a new game and go through the tutorial again to make it work. With all this mod testing I've done that more times than I can count already. You were right on the money again, zdswulyx. Thanks for the confirmation. -
I'm using wrye bash to install the Enhanced Economy mod but it doesn't appear anywhere in the Mods tab after I install it from the Installers tab. I made sure that "Has Extra Directories" is checked off, as directed by the readme. But I don't see anything in the Mods tab. Is there more required to fully install it than just putting the zip file in the '/bash installers' folder and then installing it from the wrye bash installers tab? Do I need to "unpack" anything (I'm not quite sure about that aspect of WB)? Just so confused as to why its not showing up in the mods tab after installation. And I know its not working in the game because as soon as I get out of the sewers and to a merchant, their money total never changes when I sell something.....
