  1. I don't think any of the DLC's were great, but HH was definitely the most boring and shortest, IMO. I keep hearing people say how great the scenery is, but I got tired of literally seeing red after about 5 minutes in there. There is no contrast at all with the rock texturing in the entire area and it takes a long time to navigate. It's redeeming grace is it's such an easy area that going the long way around doesn't really hurt you the way it would like in Dead Money or BMT. I liked the new pistol until I got out of HH and found out it was pretty much useless in the Divide. Also, while I'm not offended by the religion, I'd really honestly rather not have religion in my video games unless it's purely fictional. I'm a firm believer that religion and politics are better off kept to yourself, so I sure as hell don't want to see them in my video games. The opening scene was quite a let down as well as they introduce you to a bunch of semi-interesting characters with a decent amount of dialogue and then proceed to remove them from the game immediately. Way to draw me in, Obsidian. I'm not even sure the place could be improved with modding without totally changing the landscape to get rid of some of those mountains.
  2. The NCR isn't perfect, but if the choice is one or the other, there's no comparison. I don't know how some guys in this thread are acting like anything NCR has done with poor planning or bad politics has come close to the atrocities the Legion has committed. The NCR won't even let their soldiers interrogate the enemy, but the legion leaves people hanging on the side of the road.
  3. I thought a major point of the Lonesome Road plotline was that the divide blew the hell up when/after the courier went through the first time. Just because the Divide changed, didn't mean it was always there. So just because Cass was familiar with the Divide doesn't mean it wasn't before it changed.
  4. I hated it. Everything that was positive about it was ruined by something else they did to it. Except for the 5 extra levels. Besides that? Hated it.
  5. I found out purely by accident that the crashes only occur when my 360 controller is plugged into the usb port. And it's not the port because a mouse works just fine. So I'm guessing there's something defective inside the controller, but I can't prove it without getting another one. Also, I'm not sure why it points to the video driver in the crash data. That seems to indicate an issue where the two are conflicting, but they used to work fine together up until a couple of months ago.
  6. Honestly, that irritated the heck out of me that you can go through and meet those people and defend the town early in the game and then there's literally no reason to go back there ever. I use Victor's Shack to store my things, but if it wasn't for that... There's a bit of dialogue with Cass where she talks about the caravan code and you don't f with mail carriers, so that would suggest that he'd have less to worry about the powder gang than he would deathclaws, but your theory isn't any less plausible.
  7. I'm new to the fallout series. New Vegas is the first and only game I've played and I've done the Yes Man ending and the House ending as it's possible to do both with the same save. I think I would lean towards the Yes Man being the best "good" ending, with the NCR being the second even if I haven't played it yet. For reasons everyone else stated, it's obvious the Legion isn't the way to go. I feel like the NCR (as someone else already said) is kind've like America today. There are a lot of good people there, but the leaders aren't necessarily the best and they've over reached. But I think the intention is basically there, not necessarily to be good, but to at least organize and keep order. My main issue with NCR in the game is that there is absolutely no reason for them to even attempt to occupy the strip except for pride. Originally I went with House as he seemed to have a plan, and he kept saying it would be better for mankind. But as I started to go along with him, some of the things I had done bothered me. I blew up an entire Brotherhood of Steel bunker... now these guys were ***holes to me. Not in the Skyrim, lets send you to the block because you were found near the enemy sort of way, but in a ok, we invited you here to look at your robot, but we're going to put a bomb collar on you anyways sort of way... But there were also some good people there. I keep thinking about that apprentice/intern who talked about how her mother was a knight and her father a scribe (or vice versus) and she was close to her choosing. She happened to be in the control room that day before I waited for nightfall to set the self destruct. Then I met Veronica after and traveled with her and found out they were her family and she knew they were wrong but she wanted to make things right with them. When she asked me to take her to the Hidden Valley (and obviously the quest wouldn't trigger) I kept thinking of how this would have really ended in a real life situation and she would have been devastated to find out that I destroyed everyone she had ever known or loved. Then when he informed me that he intended to push out NCR and I had to hack their power sources and finally ended up killing their general (because of a stupid speech check, btw. I still can't get over a speech check on the final dialogue of the game) and that bugged me as well. I spent a lot of time doing missions for these people helping them with supplies, training their troops, eliminating fiends, etc. There are a lot of good people in the NCR. I had to rescue their president. I fought on their side. And then House made me betray them in the end for what? Despite the fact that the ending said that I was good for the people and I was able to keep Mr. House on path, I still feel like having him in power would be a less extreme version of letting the doctors out of the Big MT, where he didn't see people, he only saw players. As someone else in the thread mentioned... the guy is sealed in a box. He can't actually "live" in the world and yet he's trying to control it. So in conclusion, I would go with the Independent ending first, NCR second, as I think they're are the lesser evil between House and NCR. At least I know now where these Skyrim modders got the idea for these less than exciting slideshow endings.
  8. I'm sorry, but that's just asinine. Something that's completely legal for you to do on your own, but because you videoed it, it's suddenly not legal? This place really needs to lighten up. You can quote the TOS, but if you took that word for word, then you'd have to pretty much remove any video game footage or screenshots from this site because nobody has the copyrights to use that content.
  9. Did you try verifying the cache in steam to make sure there isn't any faulty files? (btw, if you made any changes to your .ini file it will overwrite them.)
  10. Not really. Why would a video of a port need to be taken down? It's a video. It's not a downloadable asset. It's no different than making a machinma. I mean I guess if you want to say he doesn't have bethesda's permission to use that audio in his video then that's fine, but that means any other skyrim video uploads are just as suspect. For that matter if Bethesda had a problem with it, they'd have had the youtube video pulled. Videos are pulled all the time from youtube for copyright infringement.
  11. I can't vouche for it, but I did a search for "interior" (trying to find something for interior maps) and came across this one: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/43534/? It sounds like maybe that's something you might be interested in. I'm not sure if it adds a bunch of new buildings or if it just fills interiors for existing ones that are boarded up, but either way it might be worth checking out.
  12. I understand that load order is important Jim. I have used mods with Skyrim. It's just that Skyrim lets you manipulate your load order from the data screen. FO: NV does not. I need to confirm if what Drake is theorizing is correct, that your data listing is not your load order because mine is listing them in alphabetical order and the new vegas .esm should be first in my load order. For what it's worth, the game has been playing fine for probably 15 hours or more since adding the DLC's.
  13. He clearly stated nothing was ported in his post. And as far as I know, it's completely ok to do it for your own uses, you just can't share ported material because it's copyright and/or trademark infringement to do so. If you took oblivion resources and ported them to skyrim directly and then shared them then people who own skyrim might not own oblivion, but they're getting assets from oblivion, which is then copyright infringement. None of this applies to videos though. He's not sharing any resources period. You can't break apart a video and steal the game assets out of it.
  14. I'm not trying to use any mods (yet) I just want to make sure that I don't have any problems because the main .esm isn't loaded first. If what you're theorizing is correct, then I should be ok, but it would be great to get confirmation from one of the thousands of people on here using New Vegas mods?
  15. I agree with Striker879. Did you try running the game at all as stock before putting all the mod stuff on? I'm not sure from your post if you installed it after the 8.1 upgrade or before. It sounds like after to me. I'm not saying 8.1 isn't the problem, but there's no way to tell if it's an 8.1 conflict with Oblivion or with OBSE or with some other mod type thing you're using without having tried them one at a time first. And now that you already installed it once you could have registry stuff like Striker said, or just some temporary files lying around. You could try running CCleaner. It's a free system cleaner. I use it for registry only, but if you don't mind getting your cookies and stuff cleaned up you could run it on that sort of stuff and save hard drive space and probably get your computer running faster, but I like not having to log into every site I go to because of the cookies. Here's the site: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner Make sure you make a backup of your registry (ccleaner will do this for you). I recently had a video problem (still unresolved) with my laptop that I thought was Win 8.1's fault, but I did a full format and system recovery to win 8 and found that I had the same issue with 8. I've also never seen (never looked either) a full description off what all differences there are between 8 and 8.1 other than the silly start icon, and changing how "all programs" are accessed, so who knows what all they did in the background.
  16. If you start getting moderated for porting in youtube videos, then I think I'm just going to quit the nexus. That's more or less all machinma is.
  17. Let me prephase this by saying I do not have any mods installed or mod managers. I've been playing stock New Vegas for only a week or so. Last night I bought and installed the DLC's. I clicked on the data menu to make sure they were installed and I noticed two things. Number one, all my .esm's are in alphabetical order. Number two there is no load order arrow like Skyrim has. I did a search and read something about the load order being the windows time stamp, but I changed the time stamp of my falloutnv.esm file to a month ago just to be on the safe side and it still did not change the load order. I am concerned I will have problems with the master file not being first in my load order. How can I fix this?
  18. I just started playing this game. I want to know if a couple of mod types exist: 1. Is there a mod that modifies VATs targeting? Specifically I'd like it to stop targeting my companions, and maybe not non hostiles at all. Would be nice if it didn't target npc's behind you, but that seems like asking a bit much. 2. Are there any kind of mods that improve interior maps? The stock ones are horrible and I can't even read them.
  19. I thought EA didn't like modding of Mass Effect? http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/637723-careful-modding-mass-effect-3-gets-you-banned-from-origin/?hl=%20bioware
  20. If you're going to switch to 3ds max for armors, I recommend watching Nightasay's videos on youtube. He also has a web site.... I think it's nightasay.com. Combined with what you're learning at school, it should be a breeze for you. Break the lore all you want, just make sure you label it as lore breaking. It doesn't tend to be real popular when people try to twist a mod around to call it lore friendly. There was some guy making a dwemer mod and he was changing them to LotR type dwarves and claiming that since the dwemer disappeared, nobody knew what they would look like so that made it ok. As far as Dawnguard goes, it won't show up on steam under the list of games... I can't recall if it shows up anywhere else. I doubt it was ever free, but if you bought the "legendary" version of Skyrim then you got all the DLC's with it.
  21. My response was to the OP, not you. He can't complete everything in one play through. No matter how much of a completionist he is, it is impossible to clear your journal without mods, no matter what choices you make.
  22. I got this running on my desktop machine. I find that the left stick is still a little too fast and the right stick is still a little too slow. What do each of those adjustments do? I'd like to try tweaking it some more. Also, have you tried this with Morrowind? I'm wondering if there's something similar in the Morrowind .ini. Then again, I don't know that Morrowind even had controller support so XPadder may work on its own right off the bat.
  23. Someone on the nvidia forums pointed me to this thread: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/413110/geforce-drivers/the-nvlddmkm-error-what-is-it-an-fyi-for-those-seeing-this-issue/ and suggested I try putting some fresh ram in the machine. Skyrim and New Vegas will run on the desktop machine, but with some lag. It has an older quad core and the 550ti, but it's got 16gigs of ram. I haven't tried Dishonored or Alice yet. I don't anticipate problems with Alice, but I've heard that Dishonored can be testy even before I started running into my own issues. Oh, and AT&T sent me an e-mail saying I went over my download allotment for the month after I backed up all that stuff on wi-fi. They said they would cover it this time but would be sending me e-mails in the future if I start to get close to my 150gb limit.
  24. It's impossible to finish all the quests unless you're using mods.
  25. Ok. One more update I suppose. My games had finished downloading as of this morning. This time I decided to give FO: New Vegas a go. I went with the old 306.14 drivers figuring I had nothing to lose. I hadn't played New Vegas much. I think I got it for Xmas last year and tried it once just long enough to create a character. So I started a new character and I have zero mods. I was able to play for I'd say nearly 2 hours before crashing with a new error: The system restarted and I manually rebooted it one more time as I'm never quite convinced things shut down properly after a crash. Next I got to play for about 10 minutes before it crashed with the same error. So I figured what the hell, maybe it was a NV error, so I tried firing up Skyrim. I got a familar experience as I was able to load the game and the character moved about 10 feet in game before freezing up and I had to manually shut down the computer. So I figure ok, I'll try a newer driver, so I upgraded to 331.65, which is the same driver version I have on the desktop. I tried Skyrim and this time the familiar VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE error came up. So I tried to be somewhat diagnostic about it and thought well maybe my saves are bad. I mean afterall I've been experiencing these crashes for some time now. So I fired up NV again. I made it about 5 minutes without a crash until I got the dreaded TDR again. Now for some reason after each of these crashes, windows said it was doing an update when it rebooted and it literally took me about 30 minutes before I was able to get my laptop back again after rebooting. So finally, I tried Skyrim one last time, with no mods and a new character. The screen went black and I heard the audio for the horse and buggy, but no "Bethesda presents" and then a few seconds later the audio glitched out and the TDR came back. I figure I'll post my settings for the hell of it. I can't remember if I have done so before: I'm pretty depressed at this point. I wish I knew if it was my GPU or a driver issue, or something else. I will probably post something on the nvidia forums later, but I don't have the energy to care right now. I already e-mailed them my crash dumps twice and they don't have the decency to auto-reply.
