  1. If EW .exe is like the old EU .exe, too many edits could be problematic. Each file has a min and max number of bytes hard coded into it. To exceed or fall below that number would "break" the .exe. Lose files dont have that problem.
  2. The exe is also write protected. You have to go to properties and change it. I had the same prob and that fixed it
  3. Changes to ew/ / /int/xcomgame.int work with no exe edits. changed rank names.
  4. Do you know what node the DefaultGameData.ini is found under the ResourceHacker? I just looked thru ResourceHacker again and I do not see the DefaultGameData.ini file. I see the DefaultGameCore.ini, but not DefaultGameData Sorry, my eyes must be going buggy. Just checked again to make sure i was gonna tell you the right place but coulnt find it.
  5. Its there, (in the exe), tried to make some changes to no avail. Any chang i make to exe with resource hacker or HxD, the game refuses to start yet alone crash. Made changes to dgc to no avail.
  6. I know ntex still works, and i assume texmod in general
  7. You may have missed it, but i posted earlier that ntex works fine, no changes needed
  8. In my games/ / /config there used to be a file called game core ini that was a clone basicly of dgc, its no longer there.
  9. Again, im not the most knowlagable, but did you reinstall over you old one or was it a "cleen install"? Did you verify your files through steam? Becouse it sounds to me like no matter how hard you tried to eliminate all traces of your previous install, something was missed. Good luck and dont give up on mods couse my own opinion is that vanilla isnt worth playing.
  10. Im probobly not the best one to give advice, but you could try the update upk button on lower left side of the "custom mods" tab of toolboks. If that dont work for you post your "help wanted" on the specific mods nexus page. you will be much more likly to get a response from a capable individual, namely the mod author
  11. You should find it under Steam\steamapps\common.
  12. This appears to be defunct, however i thouhgt i would reply anyway in case someone needs my rather small piece of info. After a week and a half of banging my own head, i discovered that it is not always good enouhg to be the admin., or to run the tools as admin. Sometimes you have to give yourself permission to write to a file anyway. You can do so by right cicking the file you want to write over, choose properties, choose security and change your permission status. there should be several "users" listed all of which may or may not pertain to you depending on how many users your computer has. Mine generaly has three. Admi., hippie pc, and sys. Admin. and sys. generaly have full permissions by default, but if hippie pc only has read permission i will be denied even thouhg i am also admin. Any desenting permissions will block your access. If your not comfortable doin this by hand, or in the case of a program having many folders ad files, you can google a program called "take ownership" that will do it for you. Once installed right click your program or file or your whole c drive and you should see an option called take ownership. Left click and away you go.
  13. Pleeeeease somebody HEEEELLLP. I am running long war mod, with a few dgc tweeks to suit my own tasts. I have also installed the scrolling loadout modlet in command1.upk, from one of the r&d threads. All of this works fine. My problem revolves around trying to change rank names. Nothing seems to work, 8 out of 10 times. and when it does work, i find somethig else that dont and i fornicate around untill i break the whole damn thing and have to start over with a clean install. From every thing ive seen all i should have to do is change them in the xcomgame.int. Thats what the rank changer mods all say too. But they never work either. Ive tried every concievable install order and reinstall order. when it does work i dont know how i did it becouse my brain is fried by now. and here is the kicker!!!!!! I finally decided to do it through toolboks and to hell with the abreviations,(toolboks wont do those), and what do i see ???? Right there under the perk tree tab are my rank changes. I already had a metaphysical goose egg on my forehead the size of a softball, you should see it now!!!!! So, my question is twofold. First, why is toolboks reading it but the game wont. Second, does anyone know i can get this right? Can i change it in the .exe? If so, how? Please dumb it down couse im not a wiz. Thank you in advance to anyone who takes pitty on this tortured soul. I know how to use HxD and this is what i want to install. m_aRankNames[0]="Recruit" m_aRankNames[1]="Specialist I" m_aRankNames[2]="Specialist II" m_aRankNames[3]="Specialist III" m_aRankNames[4]="Operative I" m_aRankNames[5]="Operative II" m_aRankNames[6]="Operative III" m_aRankNames[7]="Senior Operative" m_aRankAbbr[0]="Rct." m_aRankAbbr[1]="S-1." m_aRankAbbr[2]="S-2." m_aRankAbbr[3]="S-3." m_aRankAbbr[4]="O-1." m_aRankAbbr[5]="O-2." m_aRankAbbr[6]="O-3." m_aRankAbbr[7]="SO." m_aPsiRankNames[0]="None" m_aPsiRankNames[1]="Trainee" m_aPsiRankNames[2]="Novice" m_aPsiRankNames[3]="Adept" m_aPsiRankNames[4]="Master" m_aPsiRankAbbr[0]="None" m_aPsiRankAbbr[1]="Trne." m_aPsiRankAbbr[2]="Nvc." m_aPsiRankAbbr[3]="Adpt." m_aPsiRankAbbr[4]="Mstr."
