I'm also kind of curious. Just like the thousands of unique poses we see used in screenshots, I believe guns are visual fluff. The most I've ever seen of a gun mod was a staff modeled to look like an assault rifle that shot a fireball like any other staff. If there is an actual gun mod out there that you can expect to behave like a gun, color me surprised. I still haven't learned what Oblivion can and can't do but judging by things like Deadly Reflex the range of modding potential must have some width to it. The face and eyes seem to be Diablo Elf 6 if you ask me while the REN hair is included with the race. The body most likely uses the HGEC body replacer; the clothing and equipment I can't really tell you for certain. Did you try searching around?

Video capture comes up black
DarkSpyda04 replied to DarkSpyda04's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
Alright, in testing out other games I just tried RESIDENT EVIL 2 with both the PSX emulator version and the PC version and noted the differences in capture. Emulator version -Audio is out of sync -Video playback is sped up -Video captures in both minimized and full-screen PC Version -Audio is in sync with video -Video stutters (flashes spastically) -Gameplay is captured in upper left-hand corner of the screen despite being full-screen. This is due to the low screen resolution (320x240) that only a game from 1998 could use. In order to solve this problem, I had to lower my screen resolution from 1600x900 (Highest) to 800x600 (Lowest). However, it was still no perfect match. The highest resolution I can set RESIDENT EVIL 2 to is 640x480. Nothing can be done here except to crop out the video if that's even possible. Long story short, yes I can capture other games. -
I'm trying to capture gameplay with AVS Video Editor and the recorded gameplay footage is displayed as a black screen and has no audio. However when I exit the game and go back to the desktop I get a return of visuals. Why is this? What can I do to fix it? I'm gonna need to record footage sooner or later if I start modding.

NPC Custom Race - Different from PC Custom Race
DarkSpyda04 replied to DarkSpyda04's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
Alright, that makes sense. The ID "Player" was under the NPC listing. So I have to write down the face data I see and edit the NPC, right? I can give it a try but no guarantee it'll work. If I don't like the result then I'll just leave it as it is. Also - What happens if I summon myself? EDIT - This is impossible. I change one value and it changes another value. I can't match one character to another if this keeps happening. I really do think I'm better off just leaving the NPC as-is. She looks fine. -
Two questions regarding a simple fetch quest
DarkSpyda04 replied to DarkSpyda04's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
1. Uh... what? In the "Quest" window on the "Topics" tab, select my Quest topic, create a new "info" and paste the code in the "result script" box? You speak in riddles. You need to be more specific or your response doesn't help me. I posted an image of things I tried to do. Can you look at it at tell me what I did wrong? What do I do instead of that? 2. Whatever. I can just delete the result script line and compile with a space or by creating a new line. -
NPC Custom Race - Different from PC Custom Race
DarkSpyda04 replied to DarkSpyda04's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
Yes, but only if you clone the facial geometry details from Bendu Olo to your NPCs individually. Seems easy enough. Where do I find the file(s) for the player mesh and where do I find the files for the NPC mesh? Furthermore, what editor do I use? I only have experience using Autodesk 3Ds Max. Or do I do something in the TES construction set? You're giving me a minimum of information and it's not much to go on. It's kind of annoying. I wait a long time for a response and I don't get much. I appreciate the help but could you please be more specific? -
Two questions regarding a simple fetch quest
DarkSpyda04 replied to DarkSpyda04's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
1. Which window do I do this in? The "Topics" window? How do I do this? Do I write out the script in the result script box or do I do it by setting the conditions? If in the Topics window, do I have to do it under a new topic or can I use an existing one? Can I use any topic or does it have to be a specific one? http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac172/DarkSpydaIV/Untitled-1_zpsb72e4fd6.jpg I have it set up like this and it never goes to stage 40. 2. About a thousand times, yes I did hit the compile button and nothing changes. I still see the same ol' script I just deleted. It saves when I change the script but god forbid I can remove it. The only alternative seems to be creating a new line. -
NPC Custom Race - Different from PC Custom Race
DarkSpyda04 replied to DarkSpyda04's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
So there is a difference. Is there any way to make them the same or no? It's fine if not because now for whatever reason the NPC's starting to look more like the player. I could just be accepting the differences or maybe something happened behind the curtains. Maybe it was just the facial expression combined with the hair? I made the hair more vibrant and I like the look. http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac172/DarkSpydaIV/x_zpsb896bf1c.jpg Can you tell which one's player and which is NPC? -
I searched through all of the mods with the tag "Library" and I was disappointed. Much of what I saw was pretty basic and looked too much like any other area of Oblivion. The stone walls and architecture you see in the Imperial City gets old after a while and I was expecting to see something fresh with elaborate, custom meshes specifically tailored to the project; something with an eye for originality that makes anyone who enters the place want to stay for a while and perhaps... read a book. Here are some reference images to show what I mean: http://www.beautiful-libraries.com/library%20photos/home%20libraries%20english/3024.jpg http://www.businessenglishlibrary.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/BusinessEnglishLibrary-org.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3b/Trinity_College_Library-words_in_leather_and_wood.jpg http://www.dreamhomedesignusa.com/images/Photoshop%20Images/Library%20paneling%20ceiling%20luxury%20house.jpg

Follows this tutorial and all works. http://cs.elderscrolls.com/index.php/Dialogue_Tutorial I have the character NPC that I bring 5 crab meats to and quest completes BUT I been rotting my brain trying to figure out how to update the quest when the player acquires five crab meats. I acquire 5 crab meats and no update. I can bring meats to NPC and complete quest but no update when I first collect 5 meats despite my best efforts. Should be simple because it happens in many other fetch quests but I can't figure out the riddle. Second, I'm having a problem with the result script that I don't want. I delete the result script SetStage zQuest01DialogueTest 20 from Quest Stages and when I click on the stage the next time I still see SetStage zQuest01DialogueTest 20. How do I remove this script?

Hello. I created a custom race from the character I'm using for ease of access. Anytime I want to start a new game as this character to test out a mod, I select the race and everything is already set up proper since the default face is favorable and the hair, eyes, and rest of that can be set in the editor. From this custom race I would like to make an NPC that looks exactly like the playable version but I'm getting some subtle differences between the NPC and PC versions. The NPC I created based off of the PC should in theory look exactly the same but instead we see a different hair color, some facial differences, and even a more thick-set body. In the image below you can see the two. The one on the left is the NPC and the one on the right is the PC. http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac172/DarkSpydaIV/01_zpsf0dad809.png - In-game NPC/PC comparison Another problem I'm having which has no relation to the above is how the character's face looks in the editor's viewer or the in-game inventory screen. The face looks very ugly despite the texture having no details to make it so. Compare to a different NPC's face. http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac172/DarkSpydaIV/02_zps902d6327.png - In-viewer face comparison http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac172/DarkSpydaIV/03_zps2fdde83e.png - Texture comparison I think I'm seeing something unusual with my character's face in the viewer. Notice how all of the details are pushed down such as the label lines around the nose. This is synonymous with having to create a new texture for the character. Alecu's Digital Girl face (which this character uses the default of) has very odd UV's that do not match any other texture. Therefore with odd UV's we can see why those details are pushed downward, creating such an odd appearance. I could in theory take the Imperial face texture, overlay it onto the DG UV's and push it up a bit to see what happens but I'd still be disappointed that the character's face can't look as clean as I want it to. http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac172/DarkSpydaIV/04_zps6c1272f3.png Some brilliant idea that was. Well, back to the drawing board. Okay... now the NPC's face is exactly as is the PC's face. Either I was imagining things the first time around or something fixed itself somehow. Oh, Oblivion modding... now I have to test out a fresh save a thousand times to make sure the face isn't just changing each time. Nope it doesn't look like it. *Presses palm against face* I am confuzzled.

So I just deleted everything...
DarkSpyda04 replied to DarkSpyda04's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
So that's what I had to do. I was double-clicking the icon and running the launcher. You have to right click and browse the Oblivion CD to find setup.exe. Alright, Oblivion is completely uninstalled. Time to start with a fresh palette. -
In my usual fashion of throwing caution to the wind and jumping into an unfilled pool head-first, I just decided to delete everything Oblivion related on my PC from in documents to in the C:/Games/Oblivion directory. Even better I didn't create a backup. What I wanted to do was clean up all mods and revert to fresh, vanilla oblivion. Now when I try to reinstall the game it still prompts me to "Uninstall" despite there being nothing to uninstall, thus I cannot reinstall the game. I hear that files get left in the registry but finding files in the registry and knowing what to look for is like finding needles in a haystack, a haystack that if you touch wrong collapses your entire computer. I need to reinstall Oblivion. Any help?

Since I totally suck big black donkey balls when it comes to texture editing I started banging my head more than usual but I found out that the UV's for the DG face mesh is in fact different from the UV's from every other face mesh which causes complications. I had to take the face texture from Diablo Elf 6 and rearrange it in a way that fitted the DG UV's. When I tested it out I realized the texture fit perfectly. +1 for me. I also think I figured out why the textures display as black. You see the texture I was using for the rest of the body to have it appear black in the viewer was a .PNG Microsoft DirectX texture. It seems to only display with .DDS Microsoft DirectX textures. So once I saved the new face as .DDS, it not only displayed but it displayed correctly. http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac172/DarkSpydaIV/Untitled2_zps4b91963d.png No, wait. Scratch that theory. Why does the hair which is .DDS not show up? Whatever. I don't really need to see the hair's texture the edit the face. You know, I just realized that I can overlay the texture over the wireframe with Linear Burn or something similar. It makes it a whole lot easier to edit a texture when you can tell what impact it will have on the model. It's a lot better than running around with my head cut off like I've been doing.

SOLVED I'm trying to get my custom character playable as a race for future simplicity and I have things set up in the TES Construction Set, messing around with the FaceGen Data and all that good stuff.. Of course, I would run into complications but perhaps you wouldn't expect them to be as weird as this. For one, some of my custom textures appear as black whereas I load up a different texture, any different texture and it displays properly in the FaceGen Data preview window. I don't know what this means or how I can get the texture to display properly. Second and certainly the weirder of the two is how textures display on the model. All of the textures are lower than they should be on the face. The mouth is below the mouth. The nose texture is below the nose. The eye shadow is below the eyes and my character just looks like a big, ugly gorilla. No, not a gorilla. My character looks like Smile.jpg. I've had to make due for some time with just having a single, plain texture to solve this problem but I figured "what if I want to make the face more detailed"? Well I can't because the face just looks retarded. If I load up a different face mesh such as corean face I can apply any texture, even the Imperial face texture and all looks fine in the viewer. So what could be wrong with the custom mesh I'm using that causes such a disaster and how could I fix it? Can I fix it or am I better off just using a different face mesh? I was using Alecu's Digital Girl face with which I kinda just took the NetImmerse/Gamebryo file and used put that in the head slot while taking everything else from Diablo Elf6 files such as the eyes and using REN hair. So I take it that the Digital Girl face just isn't compatible with other textures or something? http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/35396// http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac172/DarkSpydaIV/Untitled_zpsd6749ffb.png

Is a newbie trying to make a AAA mod
DarkSpyda04 replied to DarkSpyda04's topic in Oblivion's Classic Discussion
You could do it, only I need a girl to do the voice acting  You don't even know just how convoluted this plot is becoming. It's like watching Inception. You'd really have to be paying attention to what's going on but it all makes sense. Otherwise I can picture a lot of people scratching their head I love it. What? So you cast illusion on the character's emotional manifestation and the world dissolves into the void? It all makes sense! It tell ya I really enjoy the story-writing and that's exactly why I want to see a playable game scenario. So people can experience a mod that's well... not your average mod. The only question is whether I have the determination to go from "story on paper" to "finished product". Mini mods is pretty much the idea I had in mind but thanks to your input I'm a bit more actuated to that particular method. Even if this mod doesn't get anywhere at least I'll know I tried. Thanks for the support. -
Is a newbie trying to make a AAA mod
DarkSpyda04 replied to DarkSpyda04's topic in Oblivion's Classic Discussion
And all for a story I wanted to tell... somehow I knew it'd take a few months of learning. It's to be expected. Well at least you're supporting the idea of what I'm trying to accomplish. I would've told myself that I'm stupid for trying and stupider for being so doubtful in myself. I don't have in mind any simpler mods I could create at the moment but I could test one particular mod out to see if it works and then move on to the next until I've learned everything I need to know, kind of like what I've been doing with 3D modeling lately. I suppose it does sound feasible even though I've made a habit of biting off more than I can chew in the past. Still not sure what I'll do about the voice acting though if I manage to get that far. I was kind of hoping that people would be excited to contribute after I've made a bit of progress that I could show off. Without that it really kills off the atmosphere I'm trying to set. Now if Oblivion played more like FFVII in the sense that it didn't even need voice acting to be immersive than I'd be all-set but in Oblivion you speak to NPC's directly. It's a whole different ballpark. I just know this one's gonna bite me in the rear later. And is it odd if I imagine myself writing/reading this text like Edward from Full Metal Alchemist? Because that's kinda happening right now. -
Hello. I came here on part of seeing just how stupid I am. So I'm writing out a story and noting every step of the way how it could unfold during gameplay. Within, I have a great sense of mystery and an interesting plot although you can't take that for granted because you haven't even seen it yet. Now I'm planning scenes, simple scenes where in real-time the character your talking to ends the dialogue sequence and breaks down in tears before telling a story outside of the conversation dialogue. This is only one thing I want to do and it's not even one of the crazier things I want to pull off. Yet, I've never made a single mod for Oblivion, I don't know anything about the scripting language for Oblivion, how difficult it is to make even the simplest quest mod, or even how long it would take me, and what kind of stress it would put me through. Oh yes, and I'm also expecting to get a professional-sounding voice actor with the right voice and audio quality to record thousands of lines for zero pay. So, what advice do you guys have for me? I take it I'm not the first to really want to try something this stupid.

Does anyone still play Oblivion?
DarkSpyda04 replied to spinspider's topic in Oblivion's Classic Discussion
There were quite a few things I preferred in Oblivion over Skyrim that made me choose Oblivion PC over Skyrim PC such as the natural beauty of the landscapes as opposed to the rugged terrain of Skyrim, the Imperial City, and because I always watched youtube videos featuring things like Deadly Reflex that I could never do on the X-Box. My first week or so was stocked full of downloading and installing mods and trying to fix errors but now Oblivion's just crash-happy and I'm satisfied with my time spent playing so I haven't played in quite a few days; just a toy to fiddle with I guess. Other than that I have my hands full to modding the classic Resident Evils and one cannot have two majors without overwhelming himself. -
Game Crashes on Loading Screen.
DarkSpyda04 replied to Qyboor's topic in Oblivion's Mod troubleshooting
This game crashes with everything. The adoring fan came up to me and the game crashed. -
I am confused... Nevermind, it was because of the screen settings. There really ought to be a "delete topic" button.
-
Alright, thanks to noone I thought of the solution while I was trying to sleep. As it turns out I set the graphic settings to high and that switched on HDR which in turn couldn't be rendered, creating the effect. When I switched from HDR to bloom, I was rewarded with the visuals restored. So do I get a cookie or what?
-
Oblivion has been crashing like mad recently after so much as writing a word in my character's journal, openning a door, walking ten feet, loading a save. But now for some reason ALL of my saves including starting a new game there is no visual; I'm blind as a bat and surrounded by either a red, white, or black mist depending on where the character was during the save. This completely and utterly destroys the game. This ever happen to anyone? I already deleted the configuration file but that did nothing for me.

How do you set race voices in the CS?
DarkSpyda04 replied to DarkSpyda04's topic in Oblivion's Classic Discussion
Oblivion.esm? That's why. I had the folder set up like this: sound\voice\<custom race>\m sound\voice\<custom race>\f EDIT: It works! -
I created a custom race based on my main character so I could also use the modified race that it was based off of with the main character being independent. I set the race up for eyes, hair, etc, etc and the only thing I'm missing is a custom voice set. I searched high and low and there ain't no tutorials covering how to do it and quite frankly, it's the least obvious thing to figure out. The default label based on the character's name makes my character a mute and I'm not looking to give my race the default Imperial voice, either. Any advice? The Corean race has their own voice set so it can't be impossible. By the way I already went ahead and created a folder for male and female voices in data\sound\voice but CS can't read to location on its own.
