  1. Hi, I used to play Skyrim on a 2010 macbook (not pro), which had lesser specs; I had 256 VRAM and 2 RAM (about 1.86 when running Windows on Bootcamp). I can't recall the processor at the moment, but yours is the same, if not better, than that one. Skyrim was very playable for me. I could run on medium pretty consistently, but the only graphical mod I used was Climates of Tamriel. You'll probably also want to check some of your config settings and turn off other features, such as water reflections and shadow quality. Beyond that though, I got Skyrim to work. In addition to this, I also use various content mods; I don't think those are so affected by hardware, besides the intensive ones that make huge battles. Stuff like Helgen Reborn or Falskaar(two popular mods) should function as if they were in the original game itself. The vanilla game itself looks great, honestly. It's not the best we see nowadays, but I would imagine that your system would be able to run it.
  2. So, I'm coming back to a Skyrim playthrough on a new computer and all. I've tested out mods using direct coc command from the main menu, but I wanted to sit down and play a canon dragonborn with the vanilla introduction. I have Alternate Start installed, and from using it previously, there is the option to be caught crossing the border and resume the game with the vanilla introduction; this is what I want to do. However, that option isn't showing up in the dialogue. So, instead, I just disable Alternate start from my mod list and restart, thinking that i'll just add it in after the Helgen sequence. If I do this, though, selecting new game causes the menu text to disappear but not load anything; the regular Skyrim logo stays, and the music continues normally. I haven't waited past a couple minutes to see if it loads, but I'd wager that if nothing loads in the first 60 seconds, it probably won't load later. Does anyone have any idea of what could be wrong? Is there any way to easily enable the starting sequence? I wouldn't mind using console commands to find my solution; I don't know if there is a console command to start the Vanilla sequence from the menu, but if there is, does anyone know about it? Thanks for any help on this.
  3. I apologize if I was not clearer before. I'm not sure what exactly wasn't detailed, but I'll try to probably include screenshots if I'm describing something that isn't exactly conducive to text description. I didn't have the creation kit open in front of me, so maybe I got some facts wrong there. As stated above me, I wouldn't do random things in the Creation Kit if I wasn't sure what I was doing; making accidental changes is the reason why we clean our mods using TESVEdit, as mistakes should be removed to avoid compatibility issues. If you run into a spot of trouble, perhaps post a question about it in the community. Out of curiosity, what directive encouraged you to duplicate the NPC? I'm still around if you have any questions, in case you want to continue with the original goal of adding more friendly NPC's.
  4. Basically, all you need to do to accomplish this is to open the creation kit, then click data in the top left. Load Skyrim and Update (assuming you want to work with vanilla NPC's). You then need to find the object window; the one that lists actor, audio, character, etc. Find Drelas in here; you'll need his ID. That could be either something like 'drelas' or something more obscure; if you have trouble using the filter box to search, find his ID on a website such as UESP or related Elderscrolls wiki. When you find his actor, double click and a new window labeled 'Actor' (in english) will pop up. In this window, you should see several tabs: Traits, Stats, etc. click on AI data. Here, you should see aggression under AI attributes. Set this to unaggressive, and the target will no longer attack you. Mind you, these steps will only make him not attack you, but not necessarily follow you or fight for you. He just isn't aggressive, which is what you seemed to ask in the original post. Doing this to a single falmer is a bit more tricky, I believe, as you might need to make a new actor. Why don't you give this a shot and let me know how it works. EDIT: I'm still (slowly) learning CK myself, so if anyone in the community needs to correct me here, please do so.
  5. Okay, good to know. Even if the object i'm editing is a cell, the changes can coexist then? If so, my question is answered. Thanks!
  6. Hi all, I just wanted to check something about mods overwriting other mods. So, I made a mod for my sister that adds one of her characters as a follower in game. I placed her in the Sleeping Giant inn. Now, I'm also running a mod that affects taverns (namely Perseids inns and taverns). Just a couple facts I want to get straight. 1. These both edit the Skyrim.esm in the same spot, right? (they both edit sleeping giant in a similar manner) 2. Does that make them incompatible (the last one loaded is applied)? I guess a more generic approach is that if two mods add an item to a specific cell, only one of them takes effect just because they both edit said cell? 3. If this is an issue, what do I do about it? Is this just using TES5edit to merge mods? Thanks for any help.
  7. For both, of course, I would recommend Helgen Reborn (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/35841/?). I really enjoyed this, and it puts Helgen back in through questline. I'm not all that familiar with others though, but I enjoyed that one.
  8. Hi, I'm starting to make a companion mod; as part of an introductory quest, you escort him, but he can die; he gets ambushed, and you can choose to not interfere. I'm trying to force this by giving him a high bleedout, and the enemies aren't hostile to you unless if you actually attack, so they would easily kill him. Of course, no one wants to have a follower that bleeds out early, so I intend to have this altered. I'm thinking of using a dummy character, then switching them out via some sort of 'scene change' (leaves the party) and a new actor replaces it. I was wondering though, for future reference, can you use scripts to make permanent changes to a character? Such as changing their bleedout override, or changing their level scalar? Would that just be something I tack onto a quest script via papyrus? And, if I did, it would definitely be retained in a save game? EDIT: another slew of questions: if I were to introduce changes via scripting, would it be easier to make a new class with a lower bleedout and change that, or could I directly modify a bleedout override? I'll probably have a lot of questions as I get this going, but any advice would be great! Thanks in advance!
  9. That's odd. My computer runs skyrim, and I have less than 2 RAM usable. For me, the creation kit is just really slow. What exactly goes wrong when you try to initialize the program?
  10. As the game stands, it would still be a pretty difficult endeavor, if realistically possible without budget. One mod that I think would be interesting to see would be one that makes menus not pause time (inventory, quest, map, etc.). Crafting and speech remains unaffected, which makes it seem like it could be easier than oblivion. Without making all menus not pause, though, wouldn't the game pause for each person and/or freeze? It's also a matter of transferring data at certain benchmarks over the internet, and I don't know how many people could enjoy that experience. Balance, of course, is it's own issue. The largest issue would likely be synchronization and all that, of course. That Skyrim online link is the closest (as far as I know) to what is being done towards this type of modification, and last I saw of it, the synchronization made it look basically unplayable. I really don't mean to bash the idea of course; I think that it would add a lot to the game if there was a co-op feature. However, I think it would work best if the single player was isolated from the multiplayer; each person would need to start a new game together to play the game, or maybe they could take a follower (like alternate actors) to control. I think this could also be neat if you played the game in a dead-is-dead style too, maybe with a true game over if/when the Dragonborn dies.
  11. I think that I have read somewhere that you need to have the mic plugged in before launching the creation kit. If you haven't already, try that.
  12. I wouldn't include PS3 in predictions...Bethesda had their trouble porting the DLC, which angered a lot of PS3 users. I would expect numbers to be lower on that console.
  13. On the Steam browser, you should hover the mouse over library, then a menu should drop down. You should see 'TOOLS' with a number next to it; click on on that. From there, find the Creation Kit and download it.
  14. Roleplaying definitely revitalized my experience with Skyrim. I use Frostfall, Battle fatigue/Injuries, Eat/sleep/drink/bathe (my personal favorite food mod), and I use TextHud to keep important messages visible but disable most other HUD displays. Just wondering, what mods do people use? I'm always looking for different approaches to 'immersion'.
  15. Hi PaintedDeath, First, what modding experience are you looking for? Nexus has various categories that will help you target content you are interested in. Do you want your game to look as good as it can be? Do you want to play the game in a different style? Do you want to partake in community-made quests? If I give out specific titles, you can probably take a couple keywords and type it in the search engine. You can also browse categories for general ideas; that is found here: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/categories//? First of all, check out the unofficial patches. Skyrim is a buggy game, but the patches can fix a lot of dumb errors in the vanilla (unmodded) game. In my case, I had already owned the game on PS3, and was looking to explore new content. I really appreciate quest mods and hardcore mods. For quests, "Helgen Reborn" stands out as a popular favorite. For hardcore realism, I like stuff such as "Frostfall" and "Battle fatigue and injuries". If you are looking to add personality, you could look at follower mods. The internet mandates that most of them are girls, but nonetheless, there are some pretty good ones out there. "Vilja" is one of the more popular ones. If you want new weapons, just take a look at weapons and armor mods in the categories section. I'm not as familiar with these, but some of them are pretty cool; screenshots will tell you if you like them or not. There are also a good amount of combat overhauls; SkyRe (Skyrim Redone) is one of the more popular ones, and those would also be under overhauls in categories. I (as well as 50,000+endorsers) would recommend SkyUI. It makes the menu much more useful. However, it requires an extra 'installation' of the script extender, SKSE. There is a good youtube video by GopherVids that will make installation easier. Google SKSE for the files themselves. In general, look at the Top Files of All time section; you'll get a good idea of what you might like. I think the best way to figure out what you want is to just take notes while you play; if you think "I wish I had a mod that made my player look at others in 3rd person" during an awkward dialogue, take note and check it out later. On that topic, I think Player Headtracking is great :P Sometimes, other people need to suggest mods for you to realize you want them. I find it helpful to browse the mod detectives forum at the top of this page; Something might ring a bell for you, and if you are lucky, will have been found already. And, if you have reason to believe a mod does not yet exist, ask about it in the mod requests forum. I hope this was helpful! EDIT: Also, read mod descriptions! They will tell you if you need SKSE, in which case you will have to install it. It will also mention mod conflicts, or mods that WILL NOT work together. Lastly, you might need to check if you need any of the Official DLC's to use the mod. EDIT AGAIN: I also forgot to mention graphical mods. ENB's are presets for ENB series lighting mods, and those are pretty popular for screenshots, but may cause some lag in-game. There are also mods like Static Mesh Improvement Mod (SMIM) or 2K textures.
  16. Hey guys, I had a question for you voice actors. I'm thinking of doing a little voice acting in my own mod. I was planning on using Audacity, but heard about Adobe's Audition software. My university has a free download for Adobe's CS6, so it's a free download of audition. However, I'm used to using audacity; is audition difficult to grasp? My past experiences with programs is that if it adds more features, it tend to become less intuitive. Can I get really good quality using Audacity alone? My microphone is fine, so it seems as if it is up to the program. Thanks.
  17. If you open up NMM, it should tell you what mod that is, if you find what mod is loaded as 0C, if I'm correct.
  18. I believe that if you target him in the console, the first 2 numbers in the ID that shows up correspond to the mod that he is from, 00 being Skyrim.esm. Maybe you could identify him that way.
  19. Unless plans have changed (I haven't been on much the last few weeks due to exams and then no internet) our intention is to natively include open cities as standard, this is based on discussions with Arthmoor,(the guy who worked on the open cities mods) where it was decided that open cities doesn't have a huge impact on performance and most computers these days can cope, the lack of open cities in the vanilla game is apparently due to issues caused by the limited capabilities of the current generation of consoles I haven't ever given it a shot; maybe I'm just overly paranoid/maybe I shouldn't be running Skyrim on a 2010 Macbook on Bootcamp. Either way, this looks too good to pass up! I'm really looking forward to it!
  20. Are you planning on natively including open cities in this mod? I don't have a very good computer for gaming, but would still love to play this. I would expect that you'll be getting a lot of pressure from the hardcore gamers to not include loading screens, and it might be easier, but is there a chance that this will use the same city format as skyrim for performance users?
  21. Hi majnoon53, Have you ever opened up the creation kit? I can explain what you could do to create this character. By the way, if any other people here need to correct anything to do this, please do so. I'm learning myself, but I think I've figured this part out. First, you need to open up the program, then load just Skyrim.esm. by hitting File-->Data. Following that, you'll need to look at the object window (has a list of stuff like actors, magic, character), then click on actors. At the top, next to filter, you'll find her if Actors is highlighted and you type in just 'Vex'. She'll show up. Now, you'll want to right click and when the menu shows up, click 'duplicate'. it will show up as VexDUPLICATE or something along those lines. That one is safe to edit. Now, you'll want to take away everything that makes her the Vex you find in the flagon. Double-click VexDUPLICATE so that a new window that says 'Actor' shows up, and has vex's name. At the top left, you can change her ID (probably to the new name) and then her actual name. Next, you'll want to delete a lot of stuff from her actor data. Start with the scripts, on the left side of the window. Click on each, then remove them. Now, under traits, you should see stuff like her race and her voice. You might need to change her voice so that she has follower dialogue. Something like FemaleNord or FemaleEvenToned should work fine, but I'm not sure Vex's initial voice will work. After that is done, go to to the main part of the Actor window and click on 'Factions'. There shouldn't be anything else you need to alter on the first two tabs, except for maybe the voice to get her to be a follower. Under factions, you should just delete everything. After the faction list is empty, right-click and hit 'new'. a list of factions will show up. Now, just type 'follower' into filter, and you should see a much more doable list. Add potentialFollowerFaction and CurrentFollowerFaction in. When those both show up, double-click the value next to currentfollowerfaction and set it to -1. Next up is relationships. Make a new one by rightclick->new. open the 'child' dropdown list, and scroll down to player, or type PL while the list is open. You'll want to set the level as either ally or lover. that's all for relationships. Under AI Data, change unaggressive to aggressive. You'll want to highlight and delete all of her AI packages. After that, you should be done with her character itself. Now, you'll want to place her in the world. go to UESP or whatever skyrim wiki and find the place you want to place her in. You'll see something like "console location code" here; this is what you need to know. Back in the creation kit, you need to find the window that says Cell View; if you can't find it, on the main creation kit window, go to View-->Cell view Window. Now, it should be default to show Interiors; hopefully, you want to put her in an inn or something. Now, find under that list (sorted alphabetically) the console location code we found earlier, and double click it. Depending on your computer's speed, it should take some time and the render window should show the building you selected. Now, go back to object window. if you X'd out of it, go to View-->Object Window. Now, search for whatever you named her if/when you changed her ID by typing that in the filter and highlighting Actor, and then it is as easy as clicking and dragging the icon that says VexDUPLICATE001 (or whatever you named her) into the render window that shows the building. Move her around wherever you want (she'll move around by herself anyways), and then boot up skyrim and you should find this Vex lookalike! I know that's a lot to go through; By posting in Mod talk, it looked as if you wanted to know how to do this yourself. Hopefully the above directions aren't too confusing. And to others, if I made a bad mistake anywhere, please let me know! Edits made for more clarity in spots.
  22. This is a pretty silly question, but just wondering... I was filling out my profile, and I noticed that the monitor size is only a drop-down menu. I'm proud of running my games on a 13.3 inch monitor (not really) but that isn't an option. Is that an easy fix? If it isn't, it's really not a big deal. It's just kinda funny to me really. EDIT: Also, this totally shouldn't be a priority given news stuff.
  23. Sounds cool. I'll take some time to start brainstorming, and I'll hopefully have an idea of what I want to add in. Thanks!
  24. Hi all. I'm beginning to delve into papyrus and more (i think) advanced aspects of modding Skyrim, and I was wondering about what steps to take to begin with this. I learn best by doing, but I don't want to get too in over my head. I think I would best grasp coding, Which I am very much new to, beyond Hello World, if I just started taking the baby steps and progressing from there. I do somewhat know my way around the creation kit, in terms of layout and NPC attributes; I know how to make a basic follower or hireling, and how to make a barebones dungeon, as well as make a simple perk (that doesn't involve scripts). I've never messed with scripting itself or LOD or anything beyond that. My question is, what should I start with? I plan on making (probably not releasing) a bunch of mini-mods utilizing scripts and building from there. My end objective is to make a follower mod that is semi-quest aware (depending on how much time I have to put into it). So, where should I start? It would also be really awesome if some of the excellent modders on here could mentor me as I work on this, but that would be asking a lot. My summer schedule is quite irregular also. If anyone feels up to that, it would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance!
  25. Eh, I have two nexus bookmarks; New Today, and Forums. From there, I might check top lists in specific categories, but I actually rarely go to the front page. I find it very easy to see what is new and popular on the site whilst having adult content viewable but not needing to always view said adult content. It would be nice, though, to have a setting where you can see adult content if you click on it, but otherwise not have it show up whenever we click the front page. Searching does it well though, being able to see non-adult.
