  1. Hi. Got all the letters and book been sideways cave found Baranicus's Journal and Ayleid seal key.

Back to water front shack can't find hidden door behind fireplace. Have I done something wrong,

as this happened to any one else?. If so help please.

    Cheers Bullybeef.

It is there but you have to be the right distance away and sweep your hand over the back wall of the fireplace until the cursor goes to the door icon. There is a certain amount of luck in finding that 'right distance away'.

  2. Greetz.

Bit of an issue here, I have been playing a save for a while, and I encountered a problem. I can't remove my Ring of Lordship.

Or rather, I can, but it crashed my game. I tried player.removeitem, I tried removing the ring in the CS, I tried elderedit. I suppose I should mention I added a personality enchantment to it with advanced magecraft. I tried disabling mods. I everything. I can not get this thing to go away, without restarting. Can anyone give me a tip on using a hex editor to unequip an item outside the game? Or perhaps removing a player save defined item? Elderedit doesn't see it as existing, most likely because it's corrupted.

    Thanks,

    CrysisMK2

I've had good luck with using the Speedy Deposit mod to remove corrupt items to a container (after I've removed all of my other stuff to a safe container elsewhere).

  3. Thanks for all the help guys, by doing some internet searching I found the fix. Apparently with Windows Vista (or maybe all Windows versions, not sure), a microphone needs to be plugged in when you edit dialogue and topics, presumably because the CS conducts a search for all necessary equipment when you go to edit something. Popped in my logitech mic/headset, set it to the side, now working like a charm.

Thank you! I've been banging my head on this issue for while now. Microphone was indeed the issue! It's odd that CS needs it.

It apparently only needs it for Vista. I've used the TESCS on win 2000, win xp, and win 7 without having to bother with a microphone.

  4. Hi,

I have a question regarding the 'complete all quest stages' console command. I am playing Oblivion this time through for mods only. There are a few that require Bethesda quests to be completed before they begin. So, if I use the caqs command, will all mod quests be completed in addition to the Bethesda quests, or does this command affect the Bethesda quests only?

    Thank you.

All mod quests will be completed too (at least the journalled ones).

  5. You only get two choices during the install; regular or large font. There's no way to increase the font if the large choice is still not big enough. Unless I've missed something? Large font does not seem all that large to me, and it makes me wonder how people use the regular one without squinting. Then again I play on a 47" screen sitting a couple feet back so that may have something to do with it...

I went in and hand-modified the xml files for the particular menu/dialog screens that I needed to have larger, because I didn't find the "large font" large enough for my needs in some places.

  6. Sorry not to respond sooner, I've been away for a while.

Since the Skeleton Key adds 40 point to your security skill while in your possession, there is something wrong with you having a security skill level of 24 and the Skeleton Key. Since your skill level "drops" to 240 when you drop the key, the key scripts are working just fine - your skill level has been corrupted somehow. I don't recall precisely since it has been a while since I looked at them, but aren't Legendary Abilities and Elys Uncapper conflicting?

Actually, Legendary Abilities requires Elys Uncapper.

In that case, something has corrupted your security skill level, most likely some other mod.

I've run into that with other mods and other abilities getting corrupted by a bug in a script. :(

  7. Hi Hickory,

Thanks for the response. I just thought it was weird that it would ctd with nothing installed. I thought it should be logical to work even without any mods installed. I just installed the unofficial patches but I think I borked my omod installation of the supplementals(lack of instruction imo).

The main issue I think was because I was checking all of my Tweak settings. I decided to experiment and remove each setting and test Oblivion.

I believe the Mayu's Animation Overhaul Skeleton Tweaker [All NPCs] was definitely the culprit but not exactly sure why?

Because you had not installed Mayu's Animation Overhaul Skeleton mod...

  8. Hey there, hoping someone here can help me out. I recently installed the latest version of WyreBash, but it won't seem to open properly. I followed the instructions on the WyreBash website and I have obtained my bugdump which I have posted below.

You have an old version of Python. You need to download the WryePython03a bundle (which includes Python 2.6 and all the other necessary packages) from TESNexus and install it. Afterwards, I would recommend that you reinstall Wrye Bash,

  9. I didnt think this would belong in mod troubleshooting forum because im not having trouble with a mod just a quest inside the mod. So the quest I'm having trouble with it the quest "An imposter" were you have to pass your self off as a rightous one and steal a necklace from Shinar. I got the necklace but my journal says i have to go to Golent or something like that, but i havent a clue as to who Golent is or where he is I searched all over town. Can someone help please?

Secret meeting at a house near town (see spoiler).

The abandoned Hut south of the city is where you would go on a Righteous quest. The site for An Imposter for Varo's Knights is the Abandoned House is east of the city on the small island in the channel into the lagoon.

You might check out the Windfall Hints, Tips, and Spoilers Forum .

  10. Yes I have COBL and I run the COBL version. (Wrye Bash confirms this) BTW I can't find the userlist.txt. I've run a search of my whole computer.

You have to create the userlist.txt file yourself (with wordpad or editor of choice) and put it in the Oblivion\Data\BOSS directory (which should exist). If you do not already have an Oblivion\Data\BOSS directory, then you need to upgrade your BOSS to the latest version.

  11. I want to get all the DLC plugins (The Horse Armor, Orrery, Vile Lair, Thief Lair, Fighters Stronghold, Wizard Tower, Razor, ect) but for some reason the Bethesda site won't accept my card and I know it works and I put in the right info. So where else could I get all those? I'm rather ticked that Game of the Year edition doesn't have it and for only 5 bucks more I could have gotten Game of the Year Deluxe Edition from steam which has EVERYTHING. :-( I just didn't know about it. Only downside to the Steam is its not a physical copy.

You can buy the Knights of the Nine disk which has all but Fighters Stronghold and Shivering Isles on it on Amazon. (You can also get Shivering Isles there too.) So far as I know, Fighters Stronghold is only available through Bethesda's online store.

  12. checking plugin G:\Oblivion\Data\OBSE\Plugins\\obse_1_2_416.dll

    checking plugin G:\Oblivion\Data\OBSE\Plugins\\obse_editor_1_2.dll

Do you actually have these files in this location as OBSE seems to think? The obse_1_2_416.dll and obse_editor_1_2.dll should be installed in the G:\Oblivion directory only. Either move these to G:\Oblivion or (more likely) remove them if you already have a copy of these files in G:\Oblivion already.

  13. Ok, so, a few days ago I installed a mod to expand Cyrodil's borders. After that, when I try to load up Oblivion, the window opens and then it just closes. I get no error messages, it just straight closes. So I tried reinstalling Oblivion, then installing all the mods I had before I downloaded that mod. Same problem. Then I deleted every single file I could find that had anything to do with Oblivion, reinstalled it, didn't install any mods, and I still get the same damn problem. It's driving me crazy. I've been playing the game for over a year now, and nothing like this has ever happened to me. It doesn't matter how I try to load it. I try uninstalling OBSE and running it, I try just opening Oblivion.exe, I try opening it through OBMM, nothing works. Does anybody know what the problem might be?

Find the oblivion.ini file that lives near your save games under your My Documents folder somewhere. Delete it and allow oblivion to regenerate the ini file again.

  14. Hmm ... OK. KOTN was a bad example. Repeat question using <fill in your favorite DLC name>.

MarkInMKUK said "I thought a mod, plus it's patches, which affected IT and nothing else, would be an ideal candidate ffor merging."

Seems reasonable to me. He was talking about merging each DLC with its relevant patches -- not merging all the DLCs together, which someone misinterpreted him to mean. The question still stands. Why is merging a DLC with its patches a Bad Thing in general (the special case of KOTN notwithstandig), or did we both misinterpret the answer to that question?

Now, Shadowfen mentioned that a mod that is associated with a .bsa file will have issues if you merge it. Is that the reason? I don't recall, right offhand, if all the DLCs have a .bsa file. If they don't, then what about those?

Okay, with the exceptions of KOTN and SI that wouldn't work and Battlehorn that I know absolutely nothing about because I don't have it, other DLCs could possibly be merged with their relevant patches (making sure to keep backups of the originals!!!) as long as the patch mods do not have their own bsas or voice files and the merged mod adopts the name of the original DLC so that the merged mod can use the original DLC bsa and voice files without having to muck around with them.

The general reason why merging the DLCs with anything is not recommended - even with the unofficial patches - is because many modders expect the Oblivion/SI and DLC to be "gold standard" (unmodified) for their mods and they may not work with a DLC/UOP combo because the merged file changed something that the mod relied upon - it can even cause CTDs that cannot be fixed because the mod can no longer be "inserted" into the "load order" between the DLC and the UOP for it.

  15. You can skip step #1, it's not necessary. Everything you need, regarding Python, is included in Wrye Python 03a. So it's really as simple as, yes I know hindsight is 20/20, installing two EXEs; first Wrye Python 03a followed by the Wrye Bash v291 Installer.

Dammit! I knew it! I just had a feeling that that was so!

    Ugh!

This is what I mean by insufficient instructions!

So, Python 2.5 and 2.6 are installed. Could I delete Python 2.5?

    Yes.

Check first if there is an uninstaller in your Add/Remove Programs before simply deleting directories.

  16. If mod B is dependent upon mod A, merging mod B to mod A will create a resulting mod C that is still dependent upon mod A.

In other words, merging the KOTN UOP to KOTN and renaming the resulting file KOTN will cause KOTN to look for KOTN when the game loads, thus causing really bad juju to happen.

You can use Wrye Bash (I happen to like it) or TES Gecko to edit the master list of the merged mod to remove it looking to itself as a master...

  17. MarkInMKUK's question has not been addressed, but I'll restate it (as I understand it), since I'm curious as well. I have the KOTN DLC. I also have the KOTN unofficial patch. What could be the problem with merging these two? That makes no sense to me, either.

I would think that KOTN DLC in particular is a bad candidate for merging with anything because it is "special" (i.e. has issues that make it extremely difficult work with or mod using the straight CS - much less doing anything fancy with).

I'll look into TESGeko and TESEdit, though. My main question about all this is whether or not there's actually a difference in the behavior of two merged mods, compared to simply recreating the functionality of both of them in one mod.

It depends on which two mods you are choosing to merge and your skill at recreating the functionality in a single mod. Yes there can be a difference in behavior - especially if there is any kind of a conflict between the two mods, or if the mods have voice files or bsa files.

Would the automatically-merged mod be bigger than a made-from-scratch combo, for instance?

Usually not. (Could be larger than a scratch mod if any of the original mods were dirty.)

What if I'm merging three mods and "B" is dependent upon "A", but "C" is completely independent from both, such that "B" would have to come lower than "A" in the load order. Would TESGecko, or even the CS, automatically do it right, would it get it right half the time (i.e. flip a coin and pray) or would it not even make a difference in a merged mod?

The CS won't get it right. With TESGecko you must specify the priority (essentially the load order) of the mods that you wish to merge. Load order is vitally important when merging because the overridden records will simply not be in the merged mod file. Only the winner's (in this case, the last merged) records are kept.

Quite simply, I know how I would manually merge those two mods, but I have no idea if the auto-merge does it exactly the same way, or whether it maintains the resources of both of them separately, somehow linking them together.

If any of the mods you which to merge have sound files or bsa files, you will have to modify/create/repackage those files to work with your merged mod. Much easier to avoid merging files which have bsas or voice files.

  18. Can anyone give me exact instructions for installing Bash and getting it started? :(

    1. Acquire Wrye Python 03a and Wrye Bash 291 self-installer.
    2. Install Wrye Python first.
    3. Then install Wrye Bash.

If you are running on Win 7 or Vista and have installed Oblivion in c:\Program Files or c:\Program Files (x86) then you are likely to have permissions problems. The obvious solution is to reinstall your Oblivion somewhere else (and reinstall your Wrye Bash with it). If for some reason you can't do that, you can try going into the Properties for c:\Python26\pythonw.exe and setting it to "Run as administrator" - it has worked for some people, and not for others.

  19. My game is installed on G:\Obivion. It is currently completely vanilla, fresh install. My firewall was temperairly disabled, my anti-virus was temperairly disabled. All permissions are enabled, nothing is blocked. Still, Obse will not work. I have the exact same DLL insert failure as the OP. Windows firewall has every exception i can find thrown into it for obse and oblivion. I have tried it in admin mode and in compatabilty mode. I have deleted my ini file.I have done everything that was recommended from the post so far. I am.....sadly....on the verge of a reformat to fix the problem caused by a single game. My system is well beyond minimum specs for the game. I have fallout 3 installed, played threw and loved on this comp along with oblivion. All i can think is that some deep dark part of my registry is laughing at me, spitting at my face. I am debating ordering up a new 2 tb drive, installing windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on it,(what im running now) and adding it to my 1.5 tb drive in my compy. Grrr, the sad thing is that i feel that this game is still worth that trouble......

Okay, I found a article which might relate to your problem - specifically in comparing or changing the "integrity level" of the OBSE launcher to be equal to or higher than Oblivion.exe.

    Integrity Levels and DLL Injection

If it works for you, I'd appreciate hearing about it...

  20. Hello to all. I have just installed Oblivion for the first time since i put windows 7 on my box. I have played it many times in the past and love it. However i am having the exact same problem. I have turned off every mod, running plan old vanilla oblivion and i can't get OBSE to work. I have the same dll insert failure. I have tried the most recent and beta version with no effect. Someone please help, i want to add content to my game.

Did you install your game somewhere other than the default location in c:\Program Files (x86)? If not, you need to uninstall and reinstall to a different directory, such as c:\games\oblivion. New security features in Win 7/Vista will try to protect your game from being modded if you install in c:\Program Files (x86) or c:\Program Files.

  21. How do you know so precisely what each and every deck looks like? Are you making up the furnishings yourself based on the dimensions and known purpose of each deck, or is there a graphical representation out there somewhere of every single deck of the ship complete down to the shape and positioning of each chair and table?

Back in the 70's they published blueprints of the Enterprise. I don't know if that is what he is using as a base and enhancing from the show visuals or what.

I'd have to dig mine out to look...

  22. I first noticed it in Anvil when trying to get the first contract. The Fighters Guild Leader gives me the rat contract verbally but it wont show up in my quest list. I go to the house and its always locked and I never find the woman the quest is for. The 'rat problem' info does not show up in my quest list.

It also happened when trying to start the Thieves Guild quest. I found out about the Thieves Guild from 'city swimmer' and I showed up at the garden at midnight, everyone showed up but they just stared at me. Nothing was in the quest list about it and they wouldnt start the quest.

    Please Help!

The Fighters Guild quests don't ever show up in your Quest List. That's just the way they were made.

As for the Thieves Guild, you might need to increase Armande's disposition before he will talk to you.
