I don't think anyone is advocating piracy here at all. What everyone has been saying from the start is ( if you care to pay any attention ) I PAID MY HARD-EARNED MONEY FOR THIS GAME and............. You see this isn't talk of pirating any game we all paid for the game and merely want to disconnect from Steam. I also live somewhere that is out in the country and we have terrible internet service even though it is cable it goes out frequently. I have tried to play Skyrim in offline mode as some here have said and it will not load at all. I have waited for days trying to get customer service from steam to no avail and so yes I am quite angry at having Bethesda forcing us to use steam as no one should ever make any game which has no online components or content an online only game it's maddening and ridiculous. So no we are not pirating any games nor are we talking about pirating games...we paid for the game and want to play it whenever we wish without waiting for hours because of some steam error or problem without customer assistance, or spyware and without drag and without crashes but most of all without steam.

I agree completely, her work is outstanding and it's nice that she is able to do what she loves and make a living at it. Glad to hear that her work was noticed by the big boys. I also have no doubt that she will be making many mods when the construction set comes out. I think we are all champing at the bit on that one. Thanks for the news.

With the release of Skyrim I began looking at all the new mods and thinking about all the great modders out there and how much I appreciate all of them. The modders give us all fantastic new content and help us customize our games to make a much richer and fulfilling fantasy world to play in. I thought back on AlienSlof and remembered how much I miss her imput and her superior work here on the nexus. I know that she decided to release her mods on her own websight and I visit that sight from time to time to keep up but I really wish she would come back to the nexus and upload some new skyrim mods and chat with us a little. Her advise and support have meant a lot to all of us who make game mods and her example sets a very high standard for us to follow. Artistic freedom and diversity of content is the very basis of modding, it's why we do what we do with these games. So I just wanted to put this out there and say for myself that AlienSlof. is sorely missed....still.

Amen brother, the shadows in skyrim are the absolute worst of any game I have ever seen. I would much rather turn them off than see the mixture of terrible overlays both inside and outside...both Morrowind and Oblivion were much better in overall usage without distracting the player (which shadows should never do). Shadows should enhance immersion not totally screw with the players mind constantly, lol. The shadow guys working on skyrim should be fired along with the managers that signed off on them.Or flogged whichever you prefer...

I bought a dog and the first time I left it at my house to stand guard it left and went back to the guy I bought it from. I think it would be nice to have some better commands that the animals in the game actually obey. I would also like to see better horse commands too. I think that we should have a lot of different breeds available as soon as the construction engine is available.

LE Improving Skyrim's animations and facial expressions
zappa45 replied to immortalfrieza's topic in Skyrim's Mod Ideas
Ya a lot of the animations in the game are really poor. They seem to have added the finishing moves that are all the rage these days but they forgot to pay any attention to the basic walking, fighting, riding animations. Several of these will need to be fixed and I am sure that the community will get it done as soon as the construction set comes out. I would like to see the walking up and down stairs animations fixed as well as the front legs of the horses...just terrible. I also believe that Bethesda must know that they have skimped out on most of Skyrim and are well aware of all the substandard work in the game. They did just enough to get the game released and no more. Bethesda and their devs. aren't interested in hearing any criticism. They had an entire community of folks dedicated to this game who are more than capable of making anything in the game that the programmers and the devs could make. We told Bethesda repeatedly and systematically for two years what we wanted to see in Skyrim and how they could improve the next release over Oblivion. They have totally ignored all of that advice and somehow managed to screw up many of the things that everyone liked and which worked well......... so go figure that one out. -
Ya if they added wives to the game they should have added more activities and interactions. This wife stuff just seems to be some half thought-out and poorly executed element in the game that modders could have done ten times better with much better results.

After going into several inns and pubs I finally had more of the singing bards than I could take so I killed them to shut em up. The instument playing is really cool but the singing is just bad. As soon as I get the construction engine I think I'll disable the singing entirely. Until them I will just keep killing the bards.

You are right, absolutely right. I wanted to learn magic and joined the mages college. After a few quest runs and the completion of the quests involved I became arch-mage of the college....only I know absolutely nothing about magic lol. I mean not nearly enough to be arch mage of the college. What I have seen from most of Skyrim is a general and across the board cheapness. What I mean by that is everything in the game has been pared down and skimmed off. Spells, items, quests/questlines,skills, even ui and character sheets, models of your character wearing armor and wielding weapons in the bags interface so you can see just what you are wearing, etc For many this isn't a problem and for even more the game is a great success and they will never understand why the old schoolers are shaking their heads at all of this or worse. But for the people that have supported the entire series of games from the start we can see that Bethesda is actually giving us less and less even though it seems like we are getting a lot on the surface. Better graphics and longer dungeons are fine but the things that were great in the game that kept me coming back to play over and over again are gone and what I did get in Skyrim is just really an empty shell of what should have been a masterpiece. Animations are rough and choppy, the game was really engineered for console so the ui for pc is terrible, models and textures are bad-really bad (with some exceptions in armor and weapons), the shading and shadows are the worst of any game I have ever seen, and questlines are ambiguous and are full of bugs. Also the game crashes to desktop so often that there is no immersion what-so-ever. Every time I play Skyrim I am only reminded of how much is missing. Just my opinion....

I agree that a complete Horse overhaul is needed. Not only is the horse ui ridiculous but even the leg portions of the model and animations are terrible. This is a real step backwards for the entire series. The horse controls were fine in Oblivion. You could go backwards, turn without going in circles, etc. Since there is no mounted combat I can see no reason at all why they changed the perfectly good horse ui and animation from oblivion. Although you can rare up on the horse now it has no good use and turning and moving is so much worse it isn't worth dealing with. The third person only camera angle is also a big distraction because since you are forced to use third person and the camera is locked at a certain distance the horse disappears sometimes because you are looking from inside the horse and the model disappears. This is just stupid and lazy work from Bethesda and just shoddy in general. They have added horses to the game since Oblivion only to make them absolutely useless. I wonder if they intend to sell us some more horse armor for a buck fifty or maybe a reverse movement skill? Overall until someone totally overhauls this game I am just shaking my head at the substandard work I have seen all through Skyrim ...it's a real disappointment to me after two and a half years of waiting. While everyone seems to be blowing smoke all up Bethesda for Skyrim, the negative aspects of this game just overwhelm the positive aspects that I like. Real lazy work overall and they have unnecessarily broken that which didn't need fixing. I really hope that the first patch is gonna be a big one and a real fixer but I'm not holding my breath. Half of this game needs to be completely redone. The modding community is up to the task I am sure but they have their work cut out for them. Is that a real poncho or a poncho from commercial?

Well I haven't seen this mod yet nor do I know if it is on the nexus here but....In order to load a mod it seems that you will go through the same steps as with oblivion,Morrowind, etc. Now I could be wrong here so this answer may not be the last word. If your mod has the texturre/mesh style files in it then you would need to find the skyrim data file in your steam folder. Mine is computer:c, program files, steam...then it sets a little harder. Because of steam we will have to search around to find the files that should be readily available. Mine is in the: SteamApps file. Then enter the ( common ) folder and then Skyrim. There you will find your Skyrim data files. To add mesh/texture files you may need to add a folder entitled meshes or textures into your data folder depending on what the mod looks like. Now because of the steam thing this could all be wrong and you may need to extract some of your own blood to get the mod into the files but I will assume that the mods will be installed the same way. After you have installed your mod and started the game go to the start up screen and there will be a category for mods which is titles something els. I would look and give you the exact name of the category but when I tried to start Skyrim to find out the steam account is causing an error so now I will have to reboot and wrestle with steam so sorry for that I will tell you later if I can start skyrim again. Anyway just enter there and activate your mod and it should work lol. Hope that helps good luck.
