  1. Well that's fine it is or was relatively easy with Morrowind and Oblivion to add hairstyles after the vanilla so you could use either newer mods like Ren's or use the vanilla hairstyles...no worries there. Also there are mods in the previous games that are like a hairstylist at which you could alter your current hairstyle in mid game so I think that you should be quite good eventually. Just depends on who does what first.
  2. I can download my own patches thanks, been doing it for years without steam being involved works great for me... and yes I have had some really batsh.t bad experiences with steam. I may be over reacting as you put it but I have supported this platform for years and I have produced mods for this game for everyone to enjoy and I resent being forced to use steam to play my game or any game against my will when I have paid for the game. If it's an mmo or an online game then fine but on an out of the box game with no online content ...no thanks. never again...never again. But seriously just want to add again that I'm not angry with the players or modders out there it's just the principle and the freedom of the community that I am bemoaning here. Now if the previous gentleman was right and you can back up the files to disk and use them whenever you want without steam then I'm all good. Also I don't need achievements, I can keep track of where i am thanks
  3. --Offline Mode -I have used the back up utility in steam to store each of my steam games onto either DVDs or my external hard drive, so I won't ever need to download again (should Valve/Steam ever go under). -Should I, in many years, wish to play one of these games and for some reason not be able to access steam or my own personal back-ups. there are other, less legal means of obtaining old software. I wouldn't feel to bad about it if it really was that outdated and I payed for it already. That's great if you can do that. That would work for me, but I'm not sure if you can play those backed up games without logging onto steam. If you can then that may be the answer. Also you should be aware that steam in itself requires too much personal information and yet again I will say that steam was just majorly hacked, all accounts, passwords, credit card numbers, addresses, etc were all hacked and compromised. My information would not have been hacked and stolen unless I was forced to make a steam account for games which did not need an online component like skyrim, morrowind, etc. there is no reason for online component at all. Third steam uploads data from your computer constantly while you play. They know what you play what your files look like, how long you play, and whatever else they wish to know. Once you agree to let them access your system they can pull out whatever they want from your computer...that is a fact and they use and sell that information as marketing data. You may not receive an e-mail or an advertisement but you are making them money for free therefore you are doing work for them for free, hence slave. Last, I'm not a paranoid freak that sees spooks behind every bush, but I know when I'm being used and exploited. I also don't like it when I'm forced to reveal private info which is then hacked just to play a game that I already paid good money for. If you like steam great and if you can play a backed up game without steam better still but I do mods, a lot of mods, and I like to keep my work and use it sometimes whenever I want and without waiting for a third party to tell me I can. This has happened to me with steam in the past and it will happen again so I dislike them.
  4. You are right it's one step forward and three steps back for Bethesda. In Skyrim they have remade the wheel into an octagon. It rolls but it is a bumpy ride and not so better than what we already had. Never fix what isn't broken and listen to your modders Bethesda.
  5. Well I hope all you guys who seem to like having a third party unnecessarily insert themselves between you and your game never have your internet go out when you want to play your game or maybe years from now after you have spent thousands of man hours making mods to alter your game don't go online and find that this game is no longer supported or maybe even steam or behtesda is no longer in business. Sometimes I like to take out that old game (which I paid good money for) and just play it because I just like it even though it is obsolete. Unless you get your games out of steam you will allways be a slave to them and a free sourse of marketing data. Those of you who believe that the data streams from steam to you only are kidding yourselves. Steam uploads whatever they want from your console and never forget that.
  6. I agree bethesda has taken three steps back in this release. The characters look like crap once again but the dirt and rocks look really good....thanks bethesda I want a mud man or rock character next time instead of an ugly elf-troll or filthy flat faced white eyed character that looks worse than diablo avatars. Oh and why have the glue hair that looks like a whole bottle of product was used to chemically bond everyones hair. Get with it bethesda this might have been really cool for diablo one but this is a real let down and just shows that bethesda doesn't give a rat's rear end about the players that have supported this platform from the beginning. Shoddy work just shoddy.
  7. I would like to see several mods just to make this game playable. First better looking npc's, characters, races. Bethesda seems to think everyone loves the rocks and the dirt better than their characters and since most of the npc's and characters ( except the kahjit and the argonian brothers) are all covered with earth or worse, which brings to mind the classic quote we have all heard from Monty Pythons Holy Grail. Well there seem to be no kings in this game cause they're all covered with dung. The characters look like crap, secondly I would like to see a better interface between the player and his/her avatar. I want to be able to see my character in the items board where I can see what he is wearing before exiting to the world screen. I don't really care about looking at all the stuff in my bags in 360 degree angles...I can do that in the construction sight and it is useless. Give me a real bag of stuff and a panel where my character is wearing the stuff I choose so I can see it and compare stats of my items. Once again this game fails the players and it will be up to the modding community to fix Bethesda's shoddy work. I am sure that the modding community will come up with all of the things that will make us want to play this game for years to come but I really hope that someone makes a mod that allows us to play our games whenever we want off-line and without steam's piercing and nosy gaze. If they want to do marketing at my expense then they need to pay me otherwise get out of my business steam and shame on you Bethesda.
  8. Hey just wanted to say thanks for the info about where the data files were on the steam Skyrim. I just have never modded a steam game and I just did not know where the data files were located so thanks a lot. I didn't want to seem ungratefull for the info or criticism I know many of you guys know a lot more than I do so that's why I asked on the forums. I am pretty angry about this but I'll get over it and then get to work making you guys some great mods to use. (under a different name) I just like my privacy. But any flamers or correctors flame on that's how we learn no malice or anger towards you guys here.
  9. Well besides my hatred of steam it is the aspect of FORCED participation. In order to start a steam account you have to enter your private information and a credit card number. In case you didn't know steam was totally hacked recently and everything was compromised. All of the personal info, credit card numbers, game info, passwords, everything. I do not want to ever buy a game at the store then be forced to enter into a third party where my personal information can be stolen, plain and simple. I have also had issues with steam while trying to play the total war games I bought and waited for a week to access my games because steam had some sort of system problem which pervented me from accessing my game. They have no support what so ever and it took them a week to even contact me about my issue. I never played that total war game again nor did I ever use steam. It's fine if anyone out there wants to but it is none of their business what I do on my game or when I play it, etc. this is total bs and big brother is watching.......I did find the files of Skyrim what few there were so hopefully once I get a tool i can access the bsa's. But even that is total crap here and the texture/mesh/etc. files should be readily available.
  10. I've been playing and modding the Morrowind/Oblivion Platforms since the beginning of the platforms but today after buying Skyrim and being forced to log into steam to access the game I am both angry and worried. I used to play the total war series and like Morrowind there was quite a modding community there until steam entered the picture then it stopped. I vowed never to buy another game which forced me to use steam to access my game and yet here I am again. I know that there are many many issues with Skyrim that will only be addressed through our excellent modding community and frankly I have no faith in Bethesda anymore. It will be the modders that make Skyrim a game that we want to play over and over again not Bethesda. After years of modding I have no clue how to mod any game with a steam forced account and I am not sure if I will even be able to get to the base files at all. I would like some info that everyone has on how to mod through steam or even how to eliminate it all together. I am beyond angry that I have to enter into a third party account after I have just bought and paid for the game with no warning on the package at all. Mainly I want to work past my anger and try to begin to make and install mods as soon as the construction engine is available. So any info that you could give here would be greatly appreciated. Sorry to flame right out of the box but we modders have a lot of work to do on Skyrim and we don't need or want steams unwelcome intrusion after supporting this platform for years and years. It is a slap in the face to all the modders who worked so hard to make this platform great.
