  1. So the rest of the game is working fine. I.e have you tried loading up a new game just to check that it loads into the tactical game? Also you haven't installed any mods recently...i doubt it as you were very clear as to the events. It sounds like a simple corrupted save, which unfortunately cannot be corrected. All i could recommend is vertifying your cache and trying again. If the thought of starting a new game is off putting you could try a new game with a mod. Some of them a very good and change alot of the game mechanics (for the better too). Both popular and very good are Warspace extension and Long War mod. Anyway, you should verify the game files through steam and try again. Also check that everything else is working fine. You could also try a fresh install of the game but keep the save file and then use it.
  2. Yeah been playing it alot more tonight and its very refreshing. Playing my first main game mission (you know the one where u actually select squad members) i noticed the differences immediately, the locations or pockets of aliens wasn't so easy to predict because of their numbers and i can clearly tell that the accuracy of the sectoids seems to be toned down just right. Also loving the interceptor sequence overhaul, i was expecting the usual 2 shot face roll from the first ufo encounter but i had to abort the first one, and it escaped the second. Shortened timer is also very nice as it causes you to actually worry about the whole engagement rather than seeing the class size and thinking win/lose. Nice work, sorry about the rant earlier too. Again it was nothing against your mod...which is fantastic btw. ;)
  3. Hey johnny i apologize as i should of been clearer. My rant was simply about the increased aim/crit bonus in the higher difficulty levels. I know this can be removed and there is a mod out there that does so, i just wanted to check what you had changed. I completely agree with your post and your completely right. Its just when developer's increase Difficulty by buffing certain RNG parimeters then it can be seen as a cheap easy method they have employed to get more millage out of you. They know this too, and yes by increasing the RNG the game becomes more difficult but in a negative way. Your supposed to outsmart and out maneuver the AI (especially early game) and for them to compensate against this by simply coding the AI to hit easier and crit better is cheating, themselves and the player. Its not hard for them (as people know from modding the game) to add a few numbers to aim/crit and bolt it on as essentially replay value. No one would call a human opponent who is using hacks in whatever game an opponent with "increased difficulty" no, they would call them a cheat. I love the vanilla game even with its faults and i love what yourself and this community is doing. I just cant stand that they employed cheap RNG buffs to AI as part of the challenge. Higher numbers and more HP is fine but getting 1 shotted across the map from the back of a building, through a window, then a car window and straight over the tall van your stood behind isnt (imo).
  4. Sorry for double post. Could you tell me roughly what you changed in terms of the AI etc? In your description it says that they are basically the same as vanilla. Booted the mod up but sick to death of the aim/crit RNG buff to AI 1 shoting across the map through multiple high cover's etc. Coupled with the teleport bug happening to me almost constantly there isn't much you can do but rage delete the save and start over. improved chance of dice rolling is not an increase in dificulty of any sense in any game. Its cheap and alot of people shun it when developers use that sort of tricks to increase "dificulty" in other genre's or titles.
  5. Can anyone tell me if the game length has been increased in warspace? I've been reading through the posts here and am a put off by the soldiers not dying but staying out of the game for extreme periods. My question is basically: "will i see a page of read everytime i go to the barracks and be using soldiers once or twice in a full game?" Most people rate this mod for xcom but no beafy memorial by endgame and no connection with soldiers is a deal breaker for me.
  6. Thanks for reply Johnny, really looking forward to booting this up now. Exactly the mod i was looking for when i first googled "xcom mods".
  7. Is this mod compatible with ToolBoks? Going by the information on the main page no as they both edit the same upks. I just cant play the game without ToolBoks for the simple fact of unrealistic country/gender recruitment. The elite of the elite recruited to fight aliens would not be made up of 75% chinese females. Not being racist or anything, plain and simple probability would not deem it so.
  8. I think they got the reloading thing right. It gives you a choice. You can: 1. Reload, without moving possibly die etc 2. Use 1 move, then reload 3. Use 2 moves dash and get out of there 4. use pistol/grenade/launcher etc 5. Also most of the time you have to make choices for your guys to reload or overwatch/hunker So you can see it plays an important part of the whole tactical game. Its supposed to give you that choice and add to the tactical gameplay. If you think about it logically being able to reload at the start of the turn would infact negate the need to have a reload function at all. Waste of everyone's time from the animators creating the animations to you yourself pressing the key.
  9. Guys they could have done alot worse trust me. I remember when this version was first announced it was being billed as some as an FPS...i kicked off and i remember reading that ALOT of old fans were pissd. Anyway, i've enjoyed this one and all the wants/problems that people have will surely be addressed in a great sequel. Just next time, more (alot more) mod support from the devs. Id love to see the sequel become as popular for mods as say the total war franchise or original half life :D
  10. Yeah they are working as intended.I cant remember them being broken but cant say i was looking lol. Btw if your just coming back you should def do some play through's with the mods here. Some of the guys have done great jobs no matter how little support is given from the devs. Kudos to them all.
  11. I used to think or say "thats complete bs" alot with the teleport bug.Early game in classic or impossible can be very annoying as the sectoids/tall man's will often 1 shot people across the map who are hunkered in tall cover...all with the smallest angle of LOS but hey, thats xcom...and its part of the reason we keep going back ;)
