  1. Some modders of Fallout: New Vegas from a group called Radian-Helix Media came up with this crazy idea called Fallout: New California, a fan-made prequel mod once known as Project Brazil. How anyone is able to make a mod that is roughly the size of Fallout: New Vegas and all of its DLCs combined is beyond me. A lot of time, teamwork, dedication, and passion it would take to make it. Well, I want to ask everyone here a question in terms of Fallout 3. Yes, we know that it's being turned into a remake mod for Fallout 4, and we know that it's "old". But it's still fun as there are people who are still playing it, as well as still modding it. And we know that it does not have any of the engine modifications that were implemented into Fallout: New Vegas. And so, my question is for those who still care about and enjoy Fallout 3. If you were to make a large prequel mod for Fallout 3, what would it be about? It obviously wouldn't follow the Lone Wanderer as the protagonist, but what ideas would you think of? This question is not designed to request nor propose something.
  2. No. They're legacy content. I just found them in FNV's mesh and texture libraries. It would also explain why the sound effect of firing the Chinese Assault Rifle isn't in the PN mod. Using those legacy assets, they literally rebuilt the weapons in the GECK. Now it's starting to make sense. As for iron sights, they had them in FO3 as well but didn't use the first person aiming animations that FNV uses.
  3. Except the meshes I used are directly from FNV. There is a feature in GECK where you can use the mesh and give it a different texture. They did the same thing when they made the vault jumpsuits. They are one mesh being used with a multitude of textures. My mod has not been taken down thus far, which means I haven't broken any rules thus far. The only FO3 asset I was not allowed to upload was the texture for the Outcast Power Helmet. The armor is legacy content. Since I did not upload the texture, the safer my project is. If it was uploaded, then it would've been gone one or two hours later.
  4. This particular topic has left me in confusion. So please, don't judge. Not long ago, I uploaded a mod with a companion NPC wearing the Outcast Power Armor and Helmet, except I couldn't include the texture files for the helmet. The reason why I couldn't include them was because they were files from Fallout 3. Apparently, there is a rule that says I can't transfer any meshes, textures, and sounds from Fallout 3 to Fallout: New Vegas. I followed the rule accordingly simply because I don't want to get banned for a mod that I have made and am passionately improving since it's an alpha mod. However, here is where I am confused. There are FNV mods that use FO3 assets. They have been on Nexus Mods for years, yet none of them got removed; and none of the modders who made them have been banned. Perhaps a good example I can give is Project Nevada. Project Nevada is not just a gameplay overhaul mod, but it also brings back some weapons from FO3. This includes FO3's Assault Rifle and Chinese Assault Rifle. Some of the sound effects were also used, just not all of them. How were they able to get away with this? As I am asking this question, please know that I am not looking to steal assets from other sources nor looking for an excuse to do so. Let's not jump the shark. If someone were to steal assets from a mod I made (I have at least one custom texture file in my Exile companion mod, one of my making) especially without my consent, I would be upset. So, I understand the rule, as well as understand the concern. Instead of this forum topic being removed, I think it's fair that I get an answer to this.
  5. I got an idea for a companion NPC mod that I have just started making. Yes, I know. I made a couple of mods before, both of which are not very impressive. Wearable Vault 101 Jumpsuits, extra damage for Throwing Knives -- boring to some. And I've made empty promises, mostly because my previous ideas were without any form of inspiration. However, I have decided to try out something having more depth in creativity. I wanted to learn how to create a companion NPC from scratch. After finding a few tutorial videos on YouTube, I have created the NPC and now scripting it. This companion NPC is named "The Exile". A silent character, and their gender and race are unknown (even though I'm using a male Caucasian as a stand-in template). The best thing about power armor in any of the Fallout games is that it is gender neutral, meaning the shape of the armor does not get changed by the character's gender (ex. you know how the vault jumpsuits change in shape due to the fact that they are skin-tight). The character will also be completely mute. Besides not talking, they won't make any other sounds. Otherwise, that would defeat the purpose of concealing all elements of their identity. The Exile will wear the Brotherhood Outcast T-45d Power Armor. Unfortunately, however, I cannot legally release the mod with the Outcast Power Helmet texture from Fallout 3. That will have to be released elsewhere or extracted from Fallout 3 by whoever downloads the mod. Simply put, I don't want to get banned from Nexus because I broke the rules. Anyway, the Exile will have a modified Gauss Rifle and a Super Sledge as their default weapons, with the unlimited ammo that the existing companions use. They will also have a Pip-Boy 3000, but not the Pip-Boy Glove since that would show the skin and nails on their fingers. All of the items will be NOT playable, meaning you can't remove the helmet to see the person wearing it. Enough of me jabbering, you probably want more details than that. Well, okay. The Exile is a mysterious character. Besides just them, there will also be holotapes scattered across the Mojave Wasteland with details suggesting that the Exile is actually the Lone Wanderer, the player character from Fallout 3. Another possible hint is the fact that the Exile's Pip-Boy will have a photograph of Sarah Lyons' face on it. The inspiration to my idea for this mod is The Judge from Far Cry: New Dawn, who used to be the customized player character from Far Cry 5 but now has no identity to show. The holotapes themselves will have story elements, some of which are elements from Fallout 3 that were canonized by Fallout 4 (ex. Project Purity is saved, the Brotherhood Outcasts are reintegrated into the Brotherhood of Steel after Arthur Maxson takes over, and the Citadel is not destroyed). Everyone will still be able to use their imagination on what karma and decisions their characters from Fallout 3 went by. Nothing will stand in the way of that. The question I asked after learning about the Brotherhood of Steel's story in Fallout 4 was...what happened to the Lone Wanderer? Where are they? Since the Brotherhood does not wish to have any affairs with outsiders, I thought maybe it's possible that they "exiled" the Lone Wanderer after the deaths of Owyn and Sarah Lyons.
  6. This is for the people who made the mod Fallout: New California. As one of the gamers testing the beta, I have some requests to make. On the official note, I really do love this mod. Out of all the other mods I've played, this is perhaps the best one. I understand that it's a beta and therefore has more work to be done. There are some issues I just want to address, and I'm sure there have been people already addressing them before me. Please understand that I am not looking to criticize. The list is as follows: -The enemies are so tough that you get slaughtered very easily. Usually, I do side or miscellaneous quests to boost my skill tree, perks, level, caps, and arsenal; but since there's just mostly the story quests and hardly anything else, it can be tough. I'm sure this is being worked on. -Some written dialog from NPCs do not match what the NPCs themselves are saying. There are also some comma splices and misspells. -There are some voice lines that cannot be heard or no lip sync. -Some companion NPCs will follow you regardless of which side you choose. For example, Ranger Vargas will follow you even if you side with the Enclave. Shouldn't she turn hostile and try to kill you? Realistically, that's what should be happening. -If the player character is supposed to have rapid healing abilities, shouldn't that be made into an in-game mechanic? Perhaps maybe a perk that can be granted during the mod's progression? For example, maybe choose something similar to Cag93's Health Regeneration mod? Why die naturally like all the other characters or go through a ton of stimpaks if you have these superhuman abilities? Just something to think about. -Can we get power armor? Any power armor would do. It would give the player character more protection. In fact, why not include Enclave Power Armor? Granted that you would need the Power Armor Training perk. -In the beginning of the mod, if joining vault security, you have no ammo and a badly damaged 9mm Pistol. Really? In fact, many of the weapons in the beginning are in terrible shape. -After the mod's end credits, can we have the option to continue to Fallout: New Vegas with the same character created from Fallout: New California? I believe we had something like that five years ago when the mod was being referred to as Project Brazil? If the player character does become the Courier, why not incorporate this?
  7. And then I heard that they did this to the Ryder twins in Mass Effect: Andromeda. Interesting.
  8. Looking back at Image 2, I'm not seeing SF_SHADOW_MAP or SF_FACEGEN. Where are they? Unless, are they not in Blender? There are just some names that aren't there. Are you using a different version of Blender?
  9. I figured that I would actually try in import a mesh into Blender, export it into a NIF file, and then importing that mesh into GECK. I started with duplicating the Bounty Hunter Duster, which is the apparel worn by Red Lucy in the Thorn. Now, I'm only testing the import/export system. I haven't gone around to creating my own meshes just yet; what I'm doing here is mostly for experimental purposes. I have all of the requirements needed for mesh making, even NifSkope. Here's the punchline of my experiment. I extract the mesh from its BSA file, import it into Blender with "Immersive/Gamebryo" or whatever it's called, and there it is in Blender. I then decided to extract it through the "Gamebryo" thing and set the settings as seen in the second image shown below. I dragged the newly-made NIF file into the "meshes" directory and then opened it with GECK preview. As you can see in the third image, it's somehow stuck to the camera, I think. I have no clue what's going on. I can tell that this isn't a texture problem, but it's mostly the mesh. Did I export it wrong? It shows to be normal in NifSkope, but I don't understand what the problem is. Anyway, it seems that I can't attach three images into the same thread. I'm sorry about that. Combine them together, they are more than 250KB. I had to improvise, so here they are: https://s23.postimg.org/yhmbbi1or/Preview1.png https://s14.postimg.org/q88buhbs1/Preview2.png https://s13.postimg.org/fmdm7xypj/Preview3.png Since I can't determine the problem, you could try to follow the steps in the images I provided. I've done all I can, and I really need help. Better yet, here's this tutorial vid I found.
  10. Tell me, if you hate Fallout so much, then why be a part of the modding for it? I'm sorry that I don't understand everyone's logic. Obviously, I'm going to receive accusations, but I stand by my opinion. Besides, I can tell that Todd Howard is being treated like a Michael Bay wannabe, so there's a reason right there for most of the hatred.
  11. Duly noted on the whole mod theft thing, but what if Bethesda was already working on similar ideas? The world isn't really that big on ideas.
  12. I honestly don't understand why many people are so prejudice about Bethesda's treatment to Fallout, specifically the No Mutants Allowed community. Can't they see that Interplay f***ed up when they made the console game Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel? Last time I checked, everyone hated that game, including them! Besides, Bethesda made the wasteland look more realistic than just barren sand and dirt. The haters have obviously been watching too much of Mad Max. And even if Interplay, now resurrected as Obsidian, redeems themselves, they can't reclaim the franchise. Their mistake came at a price for they were forced to sign a contract. There is also the fact that Bethesda is far wealthier than Obsidian. Bethesda has been around for 30 years while I think Obsidian is only 12 years. The more money, the more power over a franchise. Also, when making FNV, Bethesda came to Obsidian, not the other way around. They hired Obsidian, to give insight on how they could connect the two Fallouts into the same world. So you see, I think everyone's negative feedback is rather hypocritical. I know that there are many differences from the old games, but I will always love it because it's Fallout. I've been playing the old games since I was 10, right now I'm 24. My father loves these games, as does my brother; they're 51 and 27. The way I see it, Nexus is run by people who appreciate Bethesda's work. There are mods that helped give Bethesda new ideas. The Creation Engine is loosely inspired by FNV mod Project Nevada, and the building and managing of settlements is taken from the RTS Settler mod.
  13. lol Good video. You know, when they argue, they really do sound like they're siblings.
  14. Wasn't sure which forum to write this in. I have this crazy theory. In Mass Effect, it's made official that the story can have only one Commander Shepard (either the male or female). However, unofficially speaking, what if the two genders could both exist? For a FanFiction tale, I would think that it'd be interesting if both the male and female Shepards were brother and sister. Although, they would both have to share the same personal history (Earthborn, Spacer, or Colonist). As for military service (War Hero, Sole Survivor, or Ruthless) it can be different in any respect. This crazy idea comes from how I feel about how the character can be created. Please, don't confuse me as sexist like how most gamers are. I like both of the Shepards, not just one of them. When I play a different gender, I feel like I'm playing a completely different character in the other character's shoes. For example, Fallout 4 is not just determining only one character. In Fallout 4, each gender is a separate character. Whichever one you choose gets to be the protagonist. That's how I feel about Commander Shepard in Mass Effect. I know that my idea sounds crazy, and it would probably sound stupid for some people. I won't judge what anyone else says. Please, feel free to comment. Share your thoughts on this.
  15. Well, there is one positive thing I discovered. When she's following you, she'll follow you to any of the DLCs, and even join you at the Mojave Wasteland after taking the train at Union Station.
