  1. I ACTUALLY have a bug in this quest. The Lexicon can be inserted, I hear a noise from the big transcription machinery, buttons 3 and 4 open up. However pressing them does nothing.

They actually do nothing, the machinery doesn't move. I know people are complaining about not being able to do the quest but mine is ACTUALLY bugged.

Pressing the buttons however many times doesn't make a single thing move at all.

EDIT: OK I started a totally new save... did the quest real quick, put the lexicon in and THE BUTTONS WORK..... Please tell me what to do now.

  2. Wow thanks, but no thanks for updating one of the olding games in anyone's library.

Stop touching the game and leave it alone. Does anyone actually know why they have to prod the game?

It's not like there hasn't been enough complaining. Or do they actually need more complaints?

  3. It's no surprise that dragon combat in Skyrim feels weak, unrewarding, and easy. The dragons are supposed to be the most fearsome enemy in Tamriel yet it tends to be the bandit that just slaps the dragonborn back to the last save point with one swing. (I only play mage, and heavy bandits frustrate me.)

There are many mods out there that do make the combat more interesting but I wanted to suggest to everyone my idea for changing how dragon combat can work.

Extending the dragon's HP and damage are the simplest ways to make combat more interesting than it is now, however has few directions it can ultimately go.

I think making dragon challenging and strategic and rewarding is ultimately the way to go. Making dragon combat too difficult only means the player will die trying to fight it, or bring millions of potions. Instead of devolving gameplay to this state, I think emphasizing teamwork is the way to go. This makes dragon combat feel more group-focused and plays nicely with the theme of dragon invasions, making players feel that they are dealing with a continent wide threat but with help.

Radiant NPC's hireable for combat like the Assassin Creed's ambient courtesans or thieves or mercenaries would be the analogy for what I'm thinking of.

    1. The player in order to slay the dragon up the hill should do so by hiring mercenaries.

    2. These swords, mages or specialized archers for hire should be limited in some way by either expense or by time so that they don't dungeon crawl with the player and oneshot all the way to the dungeon boss.

The blades could see some good integration in this aspect. What the blades storyline in Skyrim did really poorly was basically make the dragonborn Delphine's Consuela. They don't want to help you unless you kill Paarthurnax, Delphine pretty much has more respect for the blades than the dragonborn. In return you get more damage. That's not fair, nor is it worth it.

What the blades should be offering us is some BALANCED system of providing us highly capable dragon-hunters to assist us in defeating these seriously tough enemies.

With enough allies, dragonslaying should become a more doable task. Mods can also increase the element of strategy involved perhaps by emphasizing the role of shouts. For instance, imagine if you have to cancel the dragon's shouts with your own, otherwise the dragon's shouts will deal tons of damage or make the fight much harder in some way. Imagine dragons could shout themselves armor, requiring the player to respond with specific shouts. If you've ever played runescape, imagine the idea of making dragonslaying more like slayer, where particular groups of hires or shouts or even equipment are needed for you to dispatch dragons properly.

The shortcoming of what I suggest however is the random radiant dragon encounter. While I suggest making dragons so difficult that they require a group beyond your houscarl, this would make radiant dragons very difficult. I think the solution may be that the dragons on the hill can be the ones made to receive special attention.

  5. Thx guys, so I understand I prob won't want it.

How well can the gtx-900 series do? Maybe comparable to the 1050ti's you suggested...?

I'm trying to see if I can opt for less $ on gpu. But only because I don't know if this is something I can actually cut on

  6. Not a hugely knowledgeable guy when it comes to computer parts and I'd like to know if this GPU is going to work for some Skyrim modding.

This is what I have, and so what could this do? Not as good as some 1080ti, but if it can run Skyrim on high or very high and let me put on some ENB's and enough high quality mods, that's good enough.

    Thanks.

  7. I'm a vampire right now but I have dawnbreaker. I'm wondering if Meridia doesn't like you if you approach her as a vampire?

Are there any other interactions like this with quests? The only other one I know is of course with Isran...

  8. So when I use mod organizer and I use overwrite..

I create a mod from the overwrite item

Delete what I have in overwrite currently

Enable (check) the overwrite mod I just created?

    Is that it?

Because I'm trying to use bodyslide for something and it has some instructions for how to create a mod with overwrite.

  9. Any mods which let you put some shouts on a selection wheel or anything like that?

The usage of shouts is profoundly clunky. I find myself switching shouts during combat, and the fewer time I have to open a menu and search for things, the better.

As opposed to the Witcher 3, which has signs that are probably even more important to combat, it still manages to have a faster and smoother selection system for your secondary combat tools.

  10. I wanted to clear out many other things before starting Dragonborn DLC for the first time ever.

So I think I fought and killed the cultists around level 12, and started the quest then. I think i'm around 22 now.

So I'm concerned how enemies' levels are set.

Found a thread here that helps, but doesn't exactly address leveling by quests.

    https://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/34615/how-do-enemies-and-monsters-level-up

Meaning, as soon as I start this quest, (I haven't even opened the cultists' orders yet) am I going to have too much of an easy time when I get to Solstheim?

  11. One mod I used a while back but lost would attach weapons to slain NPC's so weapons weren't separate, and also I, i'm pretty sure, cleaned things up after a certain amount of time, reducing savegame sizes. Something like that.

  12. Apparently there's a problem with installing Skyrim on an external HDD....

I don't always hear sword swings, and also my player's voice doesn't really come through a lot of the time.

    I found one source,

One guy said this, "If you're experiencing missing audio like this and this fix is only partially working or not working at all, then check to see if you're running the Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Patch (USLEEP) or any other mod that adds/edits the uMaxSizeForCachedSound= .ini variable. If so, then try deleting that variable and seeing if some or all of your sounds return.", although I don't know what he means. Can someone explain what that means.

Although at least one person here installed Skyrim to C: already, anyway.

Curious if anyone knows about this, and also, would be able to explain what the guy I quoted means. Would trying to mount my HDD onto my computer's C: drive work? I can try moving this onto my C:/ drive but really don't want to go through that. I would want to try other solutions first.

  13. I haven't been on SKyrim for some time and I'm just coming back so I'm probably going to have to search up some more follower management/follower mods again.

As for an interesting system for followers, a way to balance different numbers of followers, I'm wondering if there are any mods out there which allow your followers to be "killed" in any fight, however after some time, (let's say a week) you'll be told that they just ended up in a hospital or something and if you just find them they'll join you once again.

I thought it was an interesting way to solve an issue of, what if you have too many followers, you don't really want to get rid of any, but as a result you and your band of 4 people completely overpower pretty much everything you meet? Even if followers are downed temporarily, as long as you get past the hardest part of a dungeon, however many people you have with you will just overpower any enemy you'll have to fight.

The realism is nice in that, the Dragonborn should supposedly be allowed to bring whatever damn army he wants with him, but then again you don't want to walk into a dungeon, order a pizza, and come back to find the whole thing cleared by your platoon.

If this isn't a thing, should I try to recommend it to a modder as some future addition?
