  1. I don't really need those quests now, I've started the college questline. And I've thought about having a follower all the time, but they are thrown away to the floor by my AoEs... Can't do.. lol *** SPOILER *** I can use Serana's help now because the Dawnguard questline, but I like to play solo. Followers tend to bork things up. A while ago I was doing Malacath quest with Yamarz and Serana with me. They got into a fight with eachother, I had to load a previous save and tell serana to wait by the cave entrance so I complete the quest myself; while they were fighting one another, I couldn't kill Yamarz (he only drops essential state after the giant is killed and starts to talk with me; he didn't stop fighting Serana, so I couldn't kill him, and complete the quest).
  2. Thanks for the massive tips! I already follow a few of them, but not all, I must say. I tend to charge in at distance when I know I have only a few minor bandits, they are usually knocked over with a Dual Cast Fireball (I aim to their average position, and *sometimes* I hit them all at once). The survivors I just burn them until they are crawling at my feet, or just throw a Shout at them, depending on the situation (fire if there is a frost atronach; ice if there is a fire one; or I may as well Ice Form them all and finish one by one at ease - this is my favorite). Before I face Dragon Priests, and I know their location, because I have a small mod that indicates them, I cast those mage protections and I summon whatever I have (still trying to raise my conjuration to get myself an Atronach (and I have not met Sam yet, so the Sanguine Rose will have to wait). And about the armor, there was a time when I used one, the Vampire armor of Destruction. But when I installed a small perk-adjustment mod that gives a small bit of penalty to magicka regen by wearing armor, I've managed to buy an expensive Expert Robes of Destruction to maximize my casting ability. This same mod improved the enchanting skill such a way, that I end up making several items to give Magicka and Magicka Regen to high values (this avoids me the potion-spamming that I hate in the middle of a fight). I'm not too bad for now, actually. My only real problems are related to the vanilla borked leveling system. I mean, Dragons are easier to kill than human casters (and I'm refering to regular mages I come across sometimes)? This has the potential to be *very* annoying.
  3. Wooa... thats a nice thread here now, with all the comments. I just started a small talk about using destruction magic, now, look at it! Ok, I know there are too many differences from Skyrim to several MMOs out there, and each game should have each own setting and game mechanics. Not going to start another fight here, because there are too many opinions on this and I'm getting along with the game for now. Playing on Apprentice, since way too many mobs on Novice that were too easy. My problem now? Even on Apprentice, most comon bandits and wild animals are easy to kill, but Dragon Priests and some isolated bosses, are plain HARD and HARSH. I could fight 2 dragons at the same time, and they would be easier than one of the other guys alone... So I stay on Apprentice for now. NOT trying Adept for sure! Now, I have one question just to make sure: I use Fireball as a constant attack spell, dual wielding it uses to 1 hit kill most common folk, 2 hits to kill bears and the likes. But I also have Incinerate, wich should be much better, since it requires much more magicka and its a higher level spell. I know as you say, the higher level spells are not well balanced, so is this one of the cases? When I hit mobs with incinerate, they almost seem unharmed... Fireball, as a weaker spell, even has a blast radius, so I don't even need to use a crosshair...
  4. Maybe I'll try that mod, thank you! Edit: maybe not... I don't like the idea of having enemies with unknown levels, and possibly preventing me to complete quests I need to do. And more, I already have a perk-mod, so it would conflict with Requiem. * wonders what's the bounty after running over a chicken *
  5. I honestly don't know how to put this simple, so let me explain: 1. I love the game, the possibility to further customize it with mods, but even without any type of mod, the game is already enjoyable. 2. Every game has its own control scheme and system, wich I end up getting used to. However... Have you ever stepped on a small stone or footstep, only to watch your clumbsy character run against it like it was a 10 ft height rock that he/she can't jump over? Have you noticed how come small game decorative elements tend to prevent you to move on? Have you seen how, while riding a horse, if you try to ram a chicken over, the chicken always wins, forcing the horse to run around it? And sometimes, the chicken even stops the horse movement? These are those small things that makes a guy go crazy insane and annoyed because of the game immersion feeling. In real life, if I go in a chicken direction, it runs away from me. But even if it doesn't, I can just jump over or move the chicken to the side. It makes no sense at all, riding a horse, or even on foot, my character is stopped by a chicken! The same happens with dogs, and those are really annoying. Imagine doing the whole Clavicus Vile questline with Barbas following you all the time without using fast travel. What a pain. That pup can be damm usefull with the dragon priests and some other tougher bosses, but most of the time it simply annoys. Go through a door, the dog is spawned right to my side and makes me turn some other direction. Same if I'm riding a horse. I imagine this is related with the collision method applied in Skyrim, but I wonder... Is there any mod or mods combination to help prevent these issues? There are basically 2 things I would like to fix: - the movement when the character jumps and runs over small objects like footsteps and stones in the floor - to be able to jump them over without constantly have to use the jump key. Use the jump key only to really jump to the medium and some larger rocks (according to what a real person could jump to) - the collision box on some animals and objects. If a barrel is on my way, I go around, sure. But if my path crosses a chicken route... OH NOES, I AM MOVED AWAY BY A CHICKEN ! Please, no. Thanks for reading!
  6. I'm reminding myself of Adrianne Avenicci now... But, all I want is a fair chance :D I just want to be able to fight my enemies without having to press Q constantly to spam mana and heal potions.. Its just SOOO game-breaking. I don't mind using a strong potion every now and then, but all the time? Each 3 or 4 seconds? It breaks the combat itself, and I end up spending more time in the Favorites menu, than in the fight itself. And if I use up my mana to heal, oops, there I need to press Q again to drink a magicka pot... I don't want to 1 hit-kill enemies, I feel it would be as much unbalanced as the enemies 1 hit-killing me. Only by now, I'm starting to get more dragon encounters, because until now, I had plenty of shouts to unlock. Feels sad at level 20+ , to have only 2 or 3 shouts to use. So the shouts are starting to help a bit now in the fights. Note: I rarely use fast-travel, for immersive reasons, and also to help me get more dragon encounters per game-time. Meanwhile, I'm using 2 mods for now to make my life a little less harsh: 1 to improve magicka regeneration rate from 33% to 66% (only a slight push, but doesn't feel so restricted), and another to adjust perk distribution and spell powers, as have been mentioned in this thread.
  7. Well, why do dragons need more than one hit to kill? Some mobs are stronger than others. Hint: Try Shock spells on automatons. You seem to have the impression that a mage should be able to 1-shot anything, (...) Well, I do not. I'm not even saying that the dwarven spheres were too hard at all. Altough easy to destroy, I still need to keep an eye on them, they are fast and can do some damage if I'm not paying attention, even on easy settings. I specified that I was using the lowest noobiest dificulty setting, with all the fire perks available, and casting the strongest spell I had at the moment. Before that experience with the dwarven spheres, I had a very unpleasant meeting with a lower level mage in light armor (lower than the dwarven spheres, I mean), in a tight cave, and as soon as I showed up in front of him to fire my spells, he started spamming Fireballs all over the place, apparently with endless Magicka potions to keep his mana flowing. Thus, when I tried that quest, I was still on Apprentice difficulty setting. This guy was doing damage to my HP about 80% per hit, so was 1 hit, plus a bit more, killing me easily. And yes, I was trying to escape and hide from him as a mage should do, instead of charging straight up like a melee. The tight passages in that cave were making Fireball blasts even worse, because every blasts in the wall, floor, ceiling, were being directed to me. I was killed several times, without even see the blast itself ! Now compare both situations and don't tell me this is not even a bit, unfair, at least. The only way I managed to kill this guy, was BOTH reducing the difficulty setting to Novice, AND changing my attack method to melee with Dawnbreaker, with the help of Unrelenting Force shout, I just stood there slashing the guy until he stopped moving, and hoping he wouldn't get up to send a fireball at me... Makes no sense, when a mage needs to draw a sword instead of using spells. I don't like when my enemies only need 1 hit to get killed, and I don't like either when MY OWN CHARACTER only needs 1 hit (or 1 hit and a light push) to get killed, because thats what was happening. Regarding the Melees VS Mages question, I have to say one more thing. I've played a LOT of MMORPGs where we can pick sorcerers / wizzards / fighters / paladins, etc. And I always see this: Fighter / Paladin = have melee but normal attacks, strength, good defense Sorcerer / Wizzard = have ranged but strong attacks, buffs, weak defense So in every RPG styled game, where is given us a chance to choose between a sword or a spell, we already assume that the spell user will have a much stronger attack, to compensate the lacking defense (without armor, only clothes). Likewise, a sword user will have a medium / high attack, but very good defenses and resilience. So, if any character at all should have a 1 hit capability, it should be a spellcaster, not a sword fighter. Correct me if I'm wrong, but all classic "knight or mage" style RPGs follow these rules. Try Dungeons and Dragons Online, for example, and you will see who are the only classes doing 1 hit kills... Btw, thank you everybody for the input. I've installed that mod with a slight change to vanilla perk tree, and I feel a bit better now, at least I managed to enchant a few items, and also the spells are a bit more effective. I still feel the difference from the easier enemies, to the harder ones. Still playing on Novice, since on Apprentice, the harder ones are REALLY hard and don't let me even take a breath... But I feel the game more balanced than vanilla.
  8. I thought it was like that. I'll try that mod, thanks both!
  9. All my previous Skyrim characters have been melee, so I'm playing a mage now focusing on destruction magic. For now, I have a level 26 imperial, with destruction at level 73 with all fire-related perks. Now comes my question: some enemies are insanely elite to kill (dragon priests, and even a light armor mage in a cave thas was 2 hit killing me spamming fireballs). So I play on the Novice difficulty level. Sad, but true. Anyway, I don't want to be switching this setting all the time, so most of my enemies are easier than butter. Bearing all this in mind, then why do the Dwarven Spheres need 3 fireball hits to get killed?? - in Novice - fire spells have all the perks available I feel the overal game is not very well balanced. If I play on Adept or even Apprentice, some enemies are just plain impossible (unless I get a pack of 100 heal potions per boss...). My character wears the Vampire light armor of Minor Destruction, and she has both a necklace and a ring to regen magicka (also, the feat to regen magicka at rank 1 from the restoration perk). I feel she is more than optimized for magic combat, but there must be something escaping my attention. Any tips for improving my character? Note: as a melee backup, I have Dawnbreaker, for those harder mobs... And I don't mind to use a mod or two to help me improve the magic combat overall system.
  10. I just noticed yesterday something very, very weird. I think it should not happen, but I need others opinions on this... My character is a mostly a mage, and I was casting some fire spells at a pack of wolves when I saw... moving forward while firing, she had her arms held to the sides and idle, as if she was stopped. Just the same as idle, but she was moving forward (imagine the character running with the spells "drawn" but without firing; I WAS firing spells actually). The same when crouching and firing spells: she appears with her arms to the sides, instead of stretched forward. I have female running animation mod, plus the pretty female idle and pretty female weapon idles. Never had a problem, just noticed yesterday. I wonder if is it save to delete all the animation files in the Data\meshes\actors\character\animations folder, then install the animations mods again... I did tryout the Jiggly mod for a short time, but didn't like it and unnistalled after. All mods installed with NMM. Links here: Pretty Female Idles: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/11954/? Pretty Combat Idles: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/15703/? Feminine Running: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/11447/? Meanwhile, since its bugged somwhow, I'll tryout another animation pack I've just found a minute ago. But I do like these ones I mentioned. I can post some screenies if needed  Edit: found: its the newer version of Feminine Running, I'll try my older version I still have in the external hard drive, that doesn't glitch as the newer one :D
  11. Well I was playing with the latest patches for every DLC I have (DG, DB, HF), and still, each time I did shout at the stones, the people would start to walk away, without the monster emerging and no structure collapsing. I had to use fast travel, before or after, to the very same stone I was in order to activate these events. One thing I forgot to mention, now that you talk about dragon-rinding, is the control during flight. I honestly don't understand what buttons am I supposed to press, altough they appear in screen as key 1 and key 2. I pressed the nr 1 and nr 2 keys, the left and right mouse buttons, I pressed a few other keys in the keyboard, some already used, some without use in Skyrim. None worked. The only ones I know they worked, were Space to lock target and E to tell the dragon to land. If the attack keys worked, I didn't notice. I think I just expected too much from a big expansion such as Dragonborn, but for myself, I had a lot more fun with Dawnguard. Dragonborn DLC, at least to me, was too centered in Herma-Mora. I think it had too much influence in the overall history, for a daedric lord (look at the daedric quests back in Skyrim, they are usually fast and focused). But in Solstheim, the player depends too much on this daedric prince's decisions and mood. He is present all the time. The end fight itself is in Herma-Mora realm... Maybe its just me, but I don't feel that right. I was expecting a fight between Miraak and me, back on earth, in the island, in a cave, in a mountain, in a dungeon, in a house, whatever. But in a daedric lord's realm... And I am not the one delivering the killing blow. All this together turns my attention elsewhere :/
  12. ((( Attention spoilers ))) I just finished Dragonborn main questline today. And I am very disapointed. I name a few reasons to... 1. My nemesis never shows up his face. In death, he is a skeleton. No point it removing his mask to see him... 2. Never giving the player a chance to compete in aquiring dragon souls is very annoying. Go back to Skyrim, slay a few dragons, and return to Solstheim. Not pratical. Not if you avoid Fast Travel for immersive reasons. 3. "That dragonborn must be utterly-super-mega-powered with that mask or something", I thought. When I loot his body, I got a mask that gives me 60 Magicka? What the ____ ? I'm wearing a circlet with 70 Magicka, since mid levels, no mods involved. Why on earth (ok, on Solstheim) did that guy managed to shout every 10 or 20 seconds? I shout once and must wait and wait to shout again, but that bastard SOTB was constantly shouting? 4. Herma-Mora finishes him off, instead of my Ebony Blade. Thank you for ruining my personal vendetta, Bethesda. Thank you. This just reduced my joy in play, to zero. 0. And not only he interferes in my final fight, he also have to kill a shaman in a village, because he is hiding secrets from him. Really? I was thinking "what type of secrets could a human have against a daedra? They are somewhat omnipresent and all that". I guess we never get to know that. 5. The main questline is short. So very short. Even not using Fast Travel, it can be done easily quick. I was expecting a bit more, even Dawnguard was more alluring and exciting than this. 6. Inns? Space to stay? Where? I use to play with a basic needs mod, and I don't know where can my character stay for the night and rest a bit. The main "city" (if you call that a city...) is small and I failed to find some place for that purpose. And the "friendly" guards didn't exactly told me where I could stay either. 7. Players expect bugs, but having to fast travel on each and every one of the stones, each time I used my shout there to release people... Game breaking and annoying. I could go on and on, but this DLC really took away my joy to play more. I feel sad. I think I will make another character, but remove Dragonborn DLC from the mod list. Now that I think of it, I see 1 good thing about this: I can forge new weapons now. Yay. Other than that, is just dull.
  13. Ok, after switching some things in load order, I guess it was having a problem with Enhanced Light and Effects. Load first EFX, then RWT after. Problem solved.
  14. I just noticed this texture glitch in the lake just outside Riften. Never noticed it before, its weird... I'm using RWT and the respective patch with AOS (Audio Overhaul). I've tried with the patch ON and OFF. Texture remains the same. Watch the screenies...
