Just to be clear, I am trying to mod a vanilla texture. What do you mean by "look at first two characters"? Do you use a command to bring up information or something about a specific object in game?

I am trying to mod a specific texture, is there a console command to show the name of the texture used on the object I am pointing at? If not what is the best way to identify specific textures for specific objects. Thanks in advance!
