  1. It has been done for Fallout 3. I don't know if it is part of the vanilla game or was added by a mod, but all of the scoped cartridge weapons I have used have three zoom settings and the energy weapons have a variable zoom using the scroll wheel. Not really sure how that helps me seeing as I'm playing FO4
  2. I was hoping that it would be possible to make it so that scopes could be zoomed in further or zoomed out. Perhaps for the glass scopes, make them toggle between set magnification, but for the recon scopes, those ought to use the scroll wheel to slide the zoom amount, eh? I feel like it kinda sucks that the best scopes are locked to a super high zoom which actually makes it more difficult to aim.
  3. I assume it's fine if the effect is loading in, just so long as it's not actually being used (since I only have a fps drop when it's on screen). If this is going to end up being a hassle for you to do, don't worry about it. Especially if it won't be possible to use in conjunction with any DLC or mods (since at that point, it's hardly worth doing!).
  4. Do what you can do! I definitely appreciate all the help, even if we don't get a perfect solution.
  5. This appears to just be another particle effect. No apparent change :\
  6. That doesn't seem right. It's not related to "armor" in any way, and from what I can discern from looking at it, it just seems to be a particle effect.
  7. There's no way you'll be able to see it on a phone screen. It's a subtle effect and it's incredibly stupid that it's so intensive and can't be disabled...
  8. I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say here. I'm not looking for a fix for a save game or a fix for anything, really. All I want is a specific effect that's in the game to be disabled or removed somehow.
  9. Well there isn't a blur effect, it's a distortion. I was unaware you could disable the update.esm? The effect has been in place since launch, if that matters. Is there not a way to simply replace all instances of an object/mesh? I did find a video that you can see the distortion easily in: Right at the beginning you can see how the fire off his hand is causing a wavy distortion.
  10. Well the effect isn't a motion blur, so it makes sense that it's not enabled. It's not really a blur, even, it's a distortion or refraction.
  11. Well that's why I figured the solution would be to replace the effect with a blank effect, rather than to remove it. My Steam client is up-to-date if that's what you mean. I double checked and there are no updates.
  12. No, no, nothing to do with shadows, it's the heat haze that comes off of fires. It distorts things behind it, makes it kinda looks like things are wavy. I hadn't thought about it as I'm not playing a spellcaster, but the effect comes off of your hands when you've got the Flames spell equipped. I also have looked up some videos of vanilla Skyrim, the effect is indeed in vanilla.
  13. I'm not sure what other details I can provide. Unless I'm mistaken and this effect is added by some mod, despite me not using any fire effect mods, and disabling said mod still doesn't remove the effect?
  14. Well the effect should be there, it exists in vanilla Skyrim. It's a subtle effect, so it might not be obvious from a screencap.
  15. I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but the name and date are correct and the screenshot appears to be where I made the save. Immediately to the right is a fire with the heat haze (but it's practically all over the place in Whiterun).
  16. what is it you want, 1 or 2 ? Well I would assume 1 would cause 2, no? All I care about is the effect not tanking my fps. I don't care how it's gone, if it's not there lagging my game unnecessarily, I'm happy. Eh, alrighty, here's the 2shared link: http://www.2shared.com/file/Bbg5P1Vz/Save_42_-_Prisoner__Whiterun__.html
  17. Here's one last hopeful bump... I've ran a few more tests, including reverting my game back to vanilla (save for an fps counter), and reducing all settings to their lowest. The effect is still there and causing significant fps drop (~100 > ~77 and ~200 > ~150). So I can safely rule out any mods causing the problem, though I was decently sure this was the case in the first place.
  18. It does matter some if your running fix it mods, AKA patches or mods that target those effects. I can make a patch that may fix your issue only if ran with default settings..."Skyrim alone" No DLC's To see if I can effect changes, but I need still a point of references from you in that form.."a saved game". If the results are favorable..? I can include any DLC's or patches currently loading....but there needs to be set a limit here. I can By pass any mods influences, but only if I can spot the bug. understand ? Well, as I said, I don't believe I have any mods that are affecting this effect. I have tried reverting everything back to vanilla as near as possible (even reverting to the original horribly cramped FOV). No DLCs, just "Skyrim.esm" and "Update.esm" and an fps counter mod for an fps test. I let the area in Whiterun load (do a couple circles to make sure it's done stuttering and all that) and I look towards the main gate, and get ~100fps. Turn a bit to the right so that the blur effect is in view and I drop to ~77fps. EDIT: Just for the sake of testing, I turned my settings down to "Low" from "Ultra" and the effect is still there and causing fps drop (~200>~150) Here's my save file: http://www.filedropper.com/save42-prisonerwhiterun002837 I did discover in doing this that either one of the DLCs or a mod adds the effect to smelters, as it's not there in vanilla (the previous test I did was with a smelter). I don't really understand anything about modding Skyrim, but is this not simply a matter of finding the haze effect code and replacing it with a blank effect code or something of that nature? Then every instance of the effect would be gone, problem solved.
  19. I do have a decent collection of mods installed, but the effect is in the vanilla game, and none of the mods should be affecting this (at least, none of them said that they changed anything about the effect, and it still looks the same as in vanilla). This is in Skyrim, btw, not Fallout.
  20. I suffer ridiculous frame drops whenever I have this effect on screen (fps from ~60 to 17 by one test) and so far I've found no way to remove it. I don't think it adds much visually, being such a minor effect, and it takes its toll in a lot of areas (towns especially, with firepits all about). I'd love it if someone with some could make a mod that disables this effect, or perhaps even replace it with a better optimized/less intensive effect (though that's a bit much to ask I imagine). I've searched everywhere and can't seem to find a way to do it via ini edits or commands, nor are there any existing mods, nor is there any info about why this lag might be occurring, and thus far the technical support forum has yielded nothing thus far. Despite no real experience, I even tried my hand at sifting through the Creation Kit and could not locate the effect. I'm kinda at a loss, so I hope I can get some help here! Thanks for taking the time to read my post! Hopefully someone can help me out!
  21. TL;DR: How to disable heat haze? I've done several google searches and searches on these forums, but I've yet to find any solution (or anyone else who's posted about this problem). I've noticed that whenever there is a heat haze effect - like that from a smelter - that I get a significant fps drop. I just tested this at the smelter outside Left Hand Mine (just outside Markarth) and found that I dropped from 50-60 fps to 17(!!) whenever the haze was in (or just out of) my FOV. I have reduced the number of particles allowed via ini editing (iMaxDesired=0) and this was no help, and if the fire particles were the culprit I would have lag around waterfalls as well, but I figured I'd try this regardless. I was wondering if there was a way to simply disable this effect, since I don't think it adds much in terms of visual quality, or if there's something known that might be causing this that I can fiddle with. I am running a hefty collection of mods, but none that I know of that affect this effect. Thanks for any help you can provide!
  22. Hey there, I tried to PM you, but I guess your inbox is full! Anyway, check out my profile for my VA info, and let me know if you'd be interested in having me record some lines.
  23. Yeah, this thread is probably dead but I had the same problem recently. I activated the security system, followed him downstairs, killed all of the tunnelers and got the prompt to talk to him again. I expected to be able to tell him the tunnelers were gone and that he would ask me to kill the queen. Instead I got only the dialogue options I got before I agreed to activate the security system in the first place and kill the initial batch. In order to proceed with the quest, I eventually just killed him and got the information to proceed with the quest (the note about Finley) from his body. Just had the same issue myself. Shame to see it's not fixed, but I guess it's good that it's not a fringe case.
