Got thrown back to the old layout again and decided to see if the issue was fixed. Nope... Hearthstone ad does the same thing. I hover over 'View new site' and on the bottom I get that text in the bottom left of Chrome that shows where the link redirects to, and it's the adclick.g.doubleclick.net address which takes me to the website (or would, if uBlock didn't allow me to prevent it from redirecting me).

So I was trying to click on 'View new layout' and it wouldn't register the link. It's like there was an invisible mask over that area of the page (hitting the X in the top right did the same redirect). This happened with the Gwent ad, the Elder Scrolls Online ad, and any other ad that filled the background of the old layout. I want to be able to support this site, though, so I keep the site whitelisted. It appears for now though I'm going to have to remove the one for the old layout since the issue prevents me from clicking the link to view the new layout, which is the one I prefer, but some links (either off-site or from mod descriptions) still direct to the old site and so I have to use that handy link at the top of the page to change layouts. Hopefully the issue gets sorted quickly.
