So far OneTweak has turned out to be the less inconvenient option since it allows borderless full screen and in the event that the game freezes again I'm still able to alt-tab and go to the task manager to kill the process. All the other solutions meant I was forced to restart or sign out. Still no end in sight for the freezing though.
