Mature Discussion: "Offensive" Mods
durklives replied to FatherAzerun's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
Ok, where to start "It's just a game", this is impractical as any sort of argument. Videogames can, and will offend people. Fine, create your barbaric backwards ass mods, but keep that to yourself. Taking something hateful or flagrantly barbaric and posting it on the internet will only propagate the ideas that this s*** is ok, when it is not. Lets apply this same type of thinking to allowing child prostitution in the game. Think about it, it doesn't hurt anyone, the children are all virtual, it may offend but its not like someone is forcing you to download it. Victimless right?. Whether or not something is part of someones "Culture" doesn't make it any less barbaric. And before you say anything like "Oh, but pedophilia isn't part of anyone's culture" Muhammad, consummated his marriage with his wife when she was 9. In South Africa exists an old and accepted sex trade, So accepted it is widely considered part of their culture. girls as young as 12 can be legally wed. Here is my favorite part, Well, honestly, all our problems right now are stemming from intolerance and/or butting in where we are not welcome. I would hate to see a mod about about child prostitution but honestly if I ran this sight the adult prostitution would be moved somewhere else. All I am saying is, I feel like all cultures should be supported. But ultimately that's up to Dark0ne. What you are "adding", that this is Dark0ne's website, blah blah blah, has been said a thousand times ad nauseum already. Seriously, the complete lack of respect for freedom around here is telling. It's a wonder you guys don't love Atombombe's mod because you're all a bunch of little Hitlers around here. And the "I know it when I see it" what is meant by that is if it gave the judge a boner then it would be pornography. And those who would want to be ruled by Kings. -
Mature Discussion: "Offensive" Mods

Wow this is probably the biggest example of brown nosery I have ever seen on this forum. And that is saying a lot. Looks like someone is looking to make moderator this year. How many Mossad agents do you know? I didn't know Mossad were battlefield soldiers, I thought they were squirriely little assassins with no honor. -

Clear admission of tyranny, no respect for others opinions if they conflict with your own. -

This place is crazy with the ban hammer. For example they just banned a guy named "Bunny Poop Cereal" because his name was "offensive" or whatever. And second, the mod you are talking about doesn't reduce their rank. For example one of the highest ranked military members is still a female. It just makes it so that women are not typically out patrolling and assuming combat roles, which is for good reason, as objective military testing as shown that women are less effective on the battle field than men. -

Yeah well, Deutschland Atombombe has been banned for avatar, even though he has had it for a number of years. I think it is silly they are just now getting around to it, I am not even the ban is supported by any of the rules in the TOS. (And any explanation would probably reeaaally be stretching it.) I bet Ben really wants to ban me now, since I sent him a PM telling him I thought what he did was wrong. It would be par for the course for this place. -
New Vegas Script Extender (NVSE) RELEASED!
durklives replied to Echelon's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
Actually that is not true at all. The pirated version worked very well, and continues to work well with NVSE, the stutter remover version, and the 4gb version of Fallout New Vegas. It seems most of the people having problems are paying customers. Why did this guy get banned for this? -
No, no, no. All work would be completely Zenball's. Credit would go to those original authors as finders of those bugs and ways to fix them. However, since all of these fixes would be reimplemented by Zenball and this implementation would be original, this mod would be completely his own work. It would not be simply a compilation of someone else's patches. What any community would not benefit from is increased bureaucracy. And this is what will happen if these ideas about "non-protected" mods, fixes that cannot be copyrighted etc. is implemented. Because every such compilation will then cause a flame where people will discuss whether or not the fixes are trivial, whether or not modders' rights apply in this particular case et cetera. Okay, but for bugs like Veronica's not leveling up bug, how would know that had been originally created and not just "copied" being that there is only one way of fixing it? Or the NCR Patrol Armor bug. Or the dozens of other bugs fixed in that patch. How would anyone know it had been created originally since even in the earlier uploaded fix mods there is no mark of authenticity?
-
Well we don't want to deprive anyone of the glory of being a "finder of bugs".
-
So in another words Zenball screwed up by A) calling it a community compilation instead of "ZENBALL'S SUPER AMAZIN BUG FIXAN UBER PATCH" and B) even _trying_ to give the original "authors" their due credit. What a funny system we have here where taking credit for other's people work and saying you did it all would be perfectly fine since it would be impossible for the moderators to prove otherwise through an investigation.

I think what you are thinking of requires NVSE. Check the official Bethesda FONV mods forum and look for Imp's more complex needs thread. He is planning on adding additional indicators and things to the hud.
-
Hey maybe you missed the part where many of these fixes can only happen one way and leave virtually no room for the author to insert their own personal touch on the fix. For example of the NCR Patrol Armor fix, how in the world is it that the person who uploaded that get exclusive right to that fix? All the esp does is remove a "Has Backpack" flag from the NCR Patrol Armor. So if I wanted to include that in the Community Compilation how would anyone know whether or not I merely "stole" that fix or did it myself?
-
Seems that way. It's terrible, I know. But you see Earthbound, when someone fixes a bug in a dialogue script or something they, now and forever, own that bug fix, apparently.

Try to keep on topic here - what do you think of the ideas I outlined above? Well I thought it was pretty relevant to the topic here, being that it contains sound files from Rick Astley, which is probably owned by a large record company, which was probably was not asked for persmission to use those songs, and here it is that mod is being protected and uploader is protected as the "creator" of the assets. Not only that but his credits and permissions page requires you to get HIS permission to use any of the "assets" as well as other authors. Checked the original authors page and he requires permission to use ANY of the assets in the file, which includes the Rick Astley song that he did not create, nor probably didn't even get permission to use. I just think it's strange how some website can give owership rights of Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up", which I _thought_ was owned by RCA Records/Sony, to some other random guy on the internet.

What is the copyright situation on mods like this? http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37151

Use adblock plus, never suffer through another annoying ad ever again
