  1. I use Mod Organizer, yes. "Erased" was a bad choice of words: I merely deactivated it on the left panel of MO. But I'll look into the ini thing for sure. Thanks for that. And sorry for the delay: I didn't realize I had to hit refresh in order to see replies. I might also clarify that after this new install I haven't even tried to boot the game up beyond the main load screen, so there may be further crash points to come. But it means that, for now, there are no save files or save issues to deal with.
  2. Hi all. My game was bugging out, so I reformatted my drive, then reinstalled the game and all mods to ensure a fresh start. Then started activating mods one at a time to discover potential bad actors among them, and encountered a familiar conundrum: mod list A takes me to game load screen fine, so I exit, load one more mod and try again. Suddenly it crashes before load screen. So I erase the problem mod, but now my original mod list A won't make it to game screen either. How can this be when it's the very same list I had before? My quest for sanity just wants some reasonable explanation for this, if anyone has such a thing. Total noob here, in case you didn't know. Many thanks!
  3. Thanks BlackRampage. You solved the problem...:)
  4. No doubt this question arises from me overlooking something completely obvious, but hours later I just can't figure it out. So... I'm trying to install TES5Edit. All the instructions point to a download site here on Nexus, and the download shows up in the download folder as a file called TES5Edit_3_0_32_EXPERIMENTAL-25859-3-0-32EXP. Double clicking this installs (or unpacks?) the contents, which I direct to a dedicated folder on my desktop called TES5Edit. Inside this is now a new folder called 7-zip, and inside this is a folder called "Lang", followed by these files in order: 7z.dll, 7z, 7z.sfx, 7zCon.sfx, 7zFM, 7zG, 7-zip, 7-zip.dll, descript.ion, History, License, readme, and Uninstall. Instructions online say to look for a TES5Edit.exe file, but I can't find it.Is it buried somewhere? The readme refers only to the 7-zip archiving process, nothing about TES5Edit. What am I missing? I would greatly appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction!
  5. Thanks to both for replying. From the boggle of instructions elsewhere, one wouldn't have guessed that it's simplicity itself. I have legendary, yes, with all the dlc. And now I know what to do with it. Much appreciated!
  6. I'm new to the game and gaming, and have only basic familiarity with computers. With so many patches, mods, etc., I'm in over my head trying to install Skyrim and patches in the right order and in the right place. Can anyone provide clear steps to doing this, or steer me to a link? Perhaps include a note about which patches or associated info I can ignore. I just want the latest version of the game up and running. Should I assume that mods all come later, after patching? If you need system information, I use an Asus ROG laptop. Can't remember all the specs, but it was top of the line a couple months ago--core i7, maxed out memory, a 1tb ssd, nvidia 780m graphics card. It runs windows 8.1 pro. If it matters, I did a clean reinstall of that operating system to get rid of Asus's weird partitioning and crapware. Thanks!
