  1. Iv'e not had any issue with the "Roleplayer's Alternate Start" mod, but now it's crashing the game as soon as I leave the starting shack. Oddly, previous saves from recent games over the past week in which I've had this mod active, everything was fine and I could leave without an issue and play as normal no matter what I did, but now it's suddenly giving me problems. 2. Thanks for putting something together, I shall give it a go and weigh it up.
  3. Basically, a mod that changes Lily's Melee tag skill to Guns (and have it increase as she levels up). Mainly because I like using the "Lily-NCR" mod and thought it would be fun for her to excel in Guns as opposed to Melee, which would go along with the "NCR mutant solider" model.
  4. Well, sod it. I've decided to delete all my mods, uninstall + re-install it FNV. I'm starting fresh. I think this will be easier to work out the issue and the cause rather than mess about checking every single mod I have. If the issue persists on a clean, mod-less install, then we should be able to home in on it. I may install a few basic mods to start off with and see what happens. I'm thankful for your participation so far, and hope we can end this soon. It's really starting to irritate me now, so I think starting over would be better, mainly for me since I'm anxious to have my game back to normal and think starting off from fresh will be easier.
  5. Well I've been searching through the script sources files using FNVedit, I was advised to search for "refreshing player" as that has appeared in the console when the issue's started. So far no matches have been found, so either I've yet to find something or I'm searching for the incorrect things. My latest save in FNV has the issue ready to go, i.e everything is behaving normally, until I do something like try to bring up the PipBoy or bring out my currently equipped weapon. For whatever reason, the console doesn't list "refreshing player" this time, so that console entry may be irrelevant or just doesn't appear all the time. The save in question is a level 20 character.
  6. Yep, I installed, in this case, the heavy frame and scope, lowered the PipBoy and hit M1 to bring up the gun. Nothing. Went out into 3rd person and saw more strange movement animations. I.e the issue was active. I don't suppose you're familiar with Mod Organizer? I've installed that and FNV Edit and am in the process of cleaning some files. The left side seems to be empty, video tutorials show that there's meant to be mods there but I can't see anything. I assume I'm supposed to upload my mods there? Or are they meant to appear by themselves? Not really sure. Here's an image (which I accidentally uploaded in the wrong area as I'm unfamiliar with these forums): http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/images/635924/?
  7. By "weapon mods" I meant the modifications that you buy in the game from a Gun Runners kiosk or from vendors. I hope that hasn't confused you. This is why I was puzzled by the issue triggering out of the blue when I wasn't doing anything notable.
  8. Ok, so this might be another big step forward; the issue started happening again. I was in Sloan, not fighting anything, just doing a vanilla quest, when I decided to install some mods that I had just purchased onto my newly-found 44 Magnum. As soon as I installed the mods and pressed M1 to bring up the gun to see what it looked like, nothing happened. The PipBoy wouldn't come up either, indicating that the issue had started up. Curiously I managed to get into 3rd person, and saw as I moved around my character had his left arm raised up for the run animation, while the right arm was stuck straight down his side. I opened the console, and sure enough "Refreshing Player" was listed all down the console. This is what a user on the discussions thread said is a script playing up, my guess is the "refreshing player" is just on a loop which is triggered by something, causing my controls to lock.
  9. Well the animations have been restored to their defaults, after I removed the folders you mentioned and verifying the game cache a few time (just to make sure), fired up the game and saw the default animations. I'll see i f I can trigger the issue in various Deathclaw sites. Again that could mean that it's linked to that or something else and it's just coincidence. Another poster on my discussion post also said "That is some mod for sure, a script going haywire." That could narrow it down to mods that I have installed which run scripts as opposed to texture-fixes or AI fixes that I have. This could be FOOK, Monster Mod or A World Of Pain that might be conflicting or that I haven't installed correctly. As I said, the majority of my mods are small alterations, textures fixes and enhancements for the game. Not saying that they're problem-proof, just that I don't keep installing junk mods or large mods.
  10. The mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/38527/? I only recently downloaded the animations and the issue was happening well before I had them installed (I'd say I had hard saves from last year that had the issue ready to go and would start moments after I loaded them, though I deleted them ages ago) so I know this isn't the cause. I might re-download it in the future and give it another go; I don't really care for animation changes, though I might fancy trying it out again and seeing if I like it better the second time round. I'm not sure if it is any of the Deathclaw mods that were doing it, since I've yet to have the issue happen on my new save with both mods removed. It's entirely possible that they were involved. Though I didn't have them installed when I first started experiencing this issue for the first time ages ago. The character level part of it is curious. I don't know if it's relevant/related or if it's just coincidence that the issue isn't happening when I'm a lower level. My last resort is removing all the mods and starting fresh with a one-by-one re-installation of the mods I want, which would be time-consuming but would work as a last-ditch effort. Even then though I would't have worked out which mod, if any, was the culprit. Anyway, I'll continue playing a little bit each day (I've lost a tiny bit of interest in playing due to the constant restarts but hey, it's all for a good cause) and see where and when the issue starts up. It's a shame the console doesn't fire off with errors when the issue occurs, or an error report gets put somewhere in the game files that lists script errors. I'm not into making mods, I just play the game and download the mods I want. I can't do scripts (the "script surgery" sounds too complicated/advanced for me) or editing any of the fancy stuff, hence I've come for help here. I greatly appreciate your time and help and I'd prefer help from a retired support specialist like yourself who's an old timer and knows the stuff. So far it's going well, albeit a little slow, but it's better to be careful and detailed.
  11. I've decided to expand out and post a help thread in the Steam discussions for FNV, and see if any additional advice comes through. Hopefully that helps me find the source quicker. I've got one reply so far (at the time I posted this reply here). I'll copy what they said down here: "I could see this being the result of a scripted mod, where the logic breaks down under specific conditions, either because of a coding oversight or an incompatibility with another mod. You wouldn't necessarily know of this incompatibility by looking for conflicting records in your plugins, because scripts are a great way to avoid having conflicting records in the first place. Two different scripts in two different records can run simultaneously and break each other horribly if they mess with the same things, and you would never be the wiser unless you compared the source code or until you witnessed the awful, awful results in-game. I glanced through your thread on Nexus Mods and some alarm bells started ringing when you mentioned this: One thing I noticed, and this might be irrelevant, was just before I force closed the game, I opened the console, and there was just "refreshing player" all down the console. Not sure if that's normal or not. That's not normal. At all. The console mostly doesn't say anything at all in an unmodded game except maybe some VATS related debugging information or whatever you type in yourself. Certainly not this particular message. It's from a mod, without question, and if the console contains nothing but that message on repeat, that's a bad, bad sign. The message could be harmless. Some modders are a bit lazy when it comes to hiding their debugging messages, even in scripts that are intended to execute every frame. But personally I'm leaning more towards the possibility that the script responsible for sending the message has gone haywire and wound up in an endless loop. In any case, it's something that you should no doubt investigate, especially in your current predicament. It's going to be problematic to find out which script that is, though. The only option I can think of is to load all your active plugins in xEdit and then manually search the source code of all script records in all of your plugins (skipping the official ESM files) until you find the one that contains the message. If you manage to find it, uninstall the mod it came from and check if the issue persists."
  12. So, I removed the other Deathclaw mod (a shame, though I can always get it back later if it turns out it's not the culprit) did a clean save, and then as level 13 or I warped myself to a location just near the train yard (where I was yesterday with the last video) with the use of the console. I experienced no problems at all, nothing happened related to/that fit the descriptions and symptoms of the issue, no lockups or crashes, no disabled controls. Whether I fixed it by clean saving and removing the mods or the issue by coincidence decided not to kick in (and I'm only level 13 compared to level 20+ where it mostly starts occurring), I don't know. I managed to clear the area, switching weapons every minute, using VATS, jumping, ducking, etc. I'm more leaning towards it being luck that it didn't happen, as it's not fitting with past results. The animations mod that I downloaded seems to still be active, even though I deleted the "locomotion" folder. Are the any additional files/folders I should delete that the game will rebuild? The animations and stances in-game are not the default ones and are the ones given by the mod.
  13. I recently installed animation replacers, though the issue was a thing before I installed them and still is with them. I've deleted the "locomotion" folder anyway since I prefer the vanilla animations. If that's all I need to do to restore all the default animations then great. I thought of just disabling all mod esp. and esm. files in the Mod Manager and seeing if that eliminates the issue. The obvious downside is that it wouldn't tell me much about the actual cause of the issue. This was the last video I intended to make. I thought I'd show everything off once last time in case I missed anything, and this time I tried all the standard controls and functions that I use when playing, one at a time . Where the videos take me no time to make, I don't plan on doing anymore, 3 clips is enough of a demonstration.
  14. I got rid of of both of the above files. The issue is happening again today. A new thing I saw was when it hit, I was firing the vanilla 357 revolver, and when I tried to reload it the animation started playing and then stopped like half a second in, and I was stuck in 1st person with the gun frozen in my hand, in a "mid animation stance" in front of me. I loaded my quicksave and tried to do it again, though I couldn't replicate it. It was odd though. Anyway here's a 3rd video (that I put as unlisted since I don't want to subject my few subscribers to this issue) recorded earlier with the issue in action, and I decided to vocally demonstrate each symptom of the issue. This time I was allowed to pause with escape and wait, though most movement was disabled (jumping and ducking) as were the other actions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeVJBgGk3n4 I'm unsure if it's still tied to Deathclaws somehow; once again I was level 22 or so, and had not experienced the issue (or any crashes rather) at all while traveling the entire wasteland, doing the usual quests, killing the usual enemies, discovering the usual locations...and not once experiencing any of the symptoms for this issue. It was only until when I decided just now to go and tackle some Deathclaws that it started up, right as I entered the area, this time it was the train yard as it's easier to reach as opposed to the Promontory. What's strange though is that earlier today I managed to clear Sloan quarry without a hitch. No issue, no locking up in first person, no controls disabling. This makes the culprit being Deathclaw-related less plausible. I can clean the quarry without the issue happening for some reason. Or it's a mod that's corrupt or conflicting. Not sure really, there's no obvious culprits for me, and I'm careful when installing mods.
  15. Ok, I'll give that ago. If I have to get rid of problematic mods then so be it. If it fixes my game and I can keep playing I'm happy. I'll erase both Speedy Resources and More Deathclaws.
  16. I have a a mod which adds more perks: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/35979/? And a mod which adds skill-based perks: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/35043/? I do not think that it's the perks causing problems; I don't get any issues after I take certain perks and they work as they should. I only limit myself to 2 companions at any time. I have no issues when I get my second companion and no issue after I've had them for a while. I have a mod which makes Deathclaws respawn (as I like fighting them): http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/52515/? and one that adds more to the game: http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/47354/? This is not vanilla. Vanilla wasn't all that good and was screaming to be modded, and I started adding mods almost right when I first started playing. 17. Alright, so the issue has started happening again on my current save. Got to level 22 with not one thing going wrong. I (and I'll just give a quick summary of what I was doing) was happily clearing the Gypsum train yard, killing Deathclaws when suddenly my gun stopped firing when I was tapping M1, despite having ammo loaded and about lots in reserve (another tell-tale sign that the issue is active is my weapon suddenly not firing when it's out). I was in 1st person at the time, and tried to scroll out into 3rd person...and I got the flickering thing, confirming that the issue was indeed happening again, and demonstrating that the issue is not just tied to being in the Promontory. One thing I noticed, and this might be irrelevant, was just before I force closed the game, I opened the console, and there was just "refreshing player" all down the console. Not sure if that's normal or not.
  18. I managed to play a lengthy period of time without the game crashing/freezing, which might be thanks to the Stutter Remover and/or the new steam location. As of the other issue, nothing yet, I'll keep playing normally and report back should it start happening. Not been to the Promonotry yet where the issue usually happens, though I'll try going there and see what happens. At least we seem to be closing in on solving it, a lot of potential causes have been crossed off the list.
  19. I got an error "Unable set current dir to game dir - unable to find the specified path". I believe I fixed this by deleting the desktop shortcuts for the Steam games I currently play and re-adding them to the desktop. Then I launched F:NV with the standard launcher, and then quit to the desktop once it got the menu, finally I managed to start F:NV using the FNV4GB launcher which seems to working again now. I hope I've done everything right.
  20. Thanks for the clear instructions, that's what I was expecting. I've cut the 3 correct files from the steam folder, deleted the rest and pasted those 3 into C:\Games which is a new folder I created. I've also been into the Steam and added the library folder to C:\Games. The steam folder in program (x86) is gone now. I take it that I've done everything correctly?
  21. I'm not entirely following your way of moving my Steam folder. Where shall I move to it to exactly? And what are the issues that will be caused by having it in C:\Program Files(x86)? I've had it there since forever, and never thought that I'd have to move it. Of course I will if it's recommended, I'm just curious as to why, and where would you recommend that I move it to? (I looked at the article you mentioned and didn't quite follow what it said). Am I moving Steam out of the program files area and into another location on the C drive? Where would that be? Excuse my ignorance, I'm just wanting to clarify.
  22. Yes, I get locked into 1st person. If I'm in 1st person when the issue starts I'm stuck in it, and trying to scroll out will just give the flickering effect. If I'm in 3rd person you can see the "arms down the side" while running which is a sign that the issue is active. I'm sure the locked in aspect was shown in the 2nd video; I was in 1st person trying to scroll out and just got the flickering and couldn't get out into 3rd person. I do not use controllers to play so controller conflicts are crossed off. I'll look into the remapping suggestion and try what you suggested, and also the moving of the game. My mouse is not of the Logitech brand.
  23. Thanks for attending to me, you've been very helpful so far. Now onto your recent comments: The following lines in the "nvse_steam_load.log" are: config path = C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas\Data\NVSE\nvse_config.ini overriding memory pool sizesdefault heap = 448MBOnHook: thread = 2076calling winmain The NVSE folder I created in the Data folder contains two items; a folder called "Plugins" which I created, and nvse_config.ini,. Inside the Plugins folder are the following items: - A folder called ComponentDLLs- sr_New_Vegas_Stutter_Remover.dll- sr_New_Vegas_Stutter_Remover.ini- sr_New_Vegas_Stutter_Remover.txt Inside the ComponentDLLs folder are 3 files: BorlndMM.dlllibtcmalloc_minimal.dlltbbmalloc.dll I trust that I've done everything correctly; I followed 2 separate video tutorials on YT to ensure everything was placed in the right areas. If I've done something incorrectly then I'll be sure to address it. When I said "I copied all the .dll files over" I was referring to the installation of NVSE (Stutter Remover); I said .dll just to save time though I see now it's slightly confused you. I have not touched any of the .dll files in the root folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas). The files you mentioned: - nvse_1_4.dll - nvse_1_4ng.dll - nvse_editor_1_4.dll - nvse_steam_loader.dll Are still in the root folder and I have not tampered with any files in the root folder. Me spinning the mouse wheel in the video is not tied to any mods, it's only function is to scroll out into 3rd person/back into 1st person. My act in doing so was to demonstrate the "flickering character" part of the issue which I tried describing. I decided it would be more effective to just film it in action; as you see I can't scroll out if I'm in 1st person, it locks me in that position and trying to scroll out gives the flicker where I can briefly see my character. The "running with arms straight down" is visible in 3rd person if I was in 3rd person when the issue starts up, and is the tell-tale sign (along with vats not working, pipboy not coming up, pause not working, etc) that the issue is active. The location is the same (Deathclaw Promontory). That's the area I just so happened to decide to go to during my current play-through, thinking the issue had gone, only to find that it hadn't and started up again when I was clearing the area. I will try going elsewhere without the use of fast travel (since I can't get back and see if I can play normally without the issue starting up, and report back later. It's entirely plausible that something in that area, maybe added/altered via a mod, is the culprit. On previous play-throughs in the past I've visited the Promontory and had the issue happen, though it's also happened when I've been exploring the area near Nelson. Could be coincidence or it could be a specific area that triggers the issue. We'll have to work that out. My next option would be to once again (I'm used to it so don't worry) start a fresh save with the auto-save feature disabled and just play with manual saves only, in case auto saving is somehow fiddling with the game. I have a hard save literally minutes after I created my character, though I can also "super fresh" and just start an entirely new character.
  24. Right, I disabled the auto-save feature. I then deleted my most recent save, where the issue was present as soon as I'd load it. I went back to an older quick-save. Played for about 5 minutes with no problems. Then it started up again. My system isn't dusty or overheating. I don't put stress on my machine/over-clock it and my process-use is almost 0%. As for the memory patch, I downloaded it and followed the instructions, creating a new folder in my data folder, then a "Plugins" folder in that, then copied all the .dll files over and added that memory command into a new .ini file ( [Memory] DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=448). into the NVSE which was the first folder (hope you followed that). Here's a second video of the issue occurring when I'm in first person. Freshly filmed just now and I didn't see the point of editing it, just quickly shot it and uploaded it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GT9hfg1nnV8&feature=youtu.be I'm not highly knowledgeable with modding and tweaking, so I'll be following as best as I can. Is there perhaps a program I can download and run which monitors FNV and activities going on in the background as I play which may help pinpoint the culprit?
  25. I take it I should start fresh with a new game? I just installed NVSR and added the ini file, loaded up my current save and the issue is of course poised and ready to start; as soon as I press M1 or change weapons it kicks in. Kinda leaves me stuck and unable to progress.
