Hey guys, just want to post how I fixed 'the bug' (for me at least). Long post, fix is bottom paragraph. Background: I have been playing a save for over a year now and 300+ hours, almost all of which the bug has been active. I have a HEAVILY MODDED GAME. I'm seriously talking 500 mods, with many large merged plugins I merged and made myself. The false save bug was so bad that it literally would activate almost instantly, meaning if I needed to interactive with any npc at all via dialogue I would have to save in front of them, exit game completely, reload and then interact and talk instantly before the bug blocked me from talking to them. All textbox menus would have the top text blank/missing. Every new cell I walked into would have a 50/50 chance of a large piece of ground world missing that npcs would fall through. Again, saving, exiting, and reloading would fix it enough to get by. My load order was meticulously made but sloppy looking with all my blank unticked esps that I merged into my own plugin. Back on oldrim, I was taught to leave those blank, unticked esps (dummy esps?). Fix: My fix? I literally took out every single unticked esp out of my data folder and moved it to another folder on my desktop. I didn't take out the ones with a plus sign that are part of my bashed patch. Literally only every single completely unticked one. Boom..problem solved. 30 hours and I only had it ONCE when I was clicking around a bunch of genesis spawn menus in-game via gensis book, and then never again. I can't believe I didn't do this earlier. I am so f*#@ing happy -

Tony what do you mean by your save "being toast"? Do you get the bug then, or you can't load the save? Also, I really appreciate you helping in this thread since a modder's perspective is needed, but I just don't think your theories and reasons why it happene are fully accurate. There are certain patterns that just don't match up well with the string count theory. I really think it's an engine bug once loading a certain kind of resource, since crafting and certain scripts make it appear. For example, I load a save, no bug for a few minutes. But the second I open a mod menu- Aft, iNeed, etc., it appears. I think it's more specific than simply string counts. -

Hey tony while I have you here I have a question about your SOT sleeping mod. I've been able to use it even with the bug. However, every time I get the "silver hand werewolf hunter" encounter while sleeping, no one is there. Used to be fine, but now no one shows up. Highwaymen and other encounters still work, but not the werewolf hunters, I can just go back to sleep and no one spawns. Any idea why? -

How many plugins do you guys have? I notice it happens a lot less when I'm under 150 plugins. I just tested and the second I went to 149 I was able to get through the entire Live Another Life dungeon and aet uo while mods are loading in without having it pop up. Could ve coincidence but I remember when testing months ago 150 plugins was a magic number. Could anyone else test this? Untick all your lower plugins until you have 200 plugins active. Start a new game and see if you fet through the LAL dungeon without seeing the bug. Then go down to 149 and try it. -

Tony, how does your theory account for the fact that this bug is nowhere to be seen outside the Skyrim worldspace? In Solstheim, Falskaar, Haafstad, the bug is nowhere to be seen. I have not seen it once while 'outside Skyrim'. It does not show up on Solstheim or on modded worldspaces. Does that not point towards an engine bug on Bethesdas part more than anything? -

I don't think you guys get what I'm saying. I'm not saying SOT mods are the sole cause of this. But I am saying that SOT mods, with whatever they have 'running in the background', makes the issue 100 times worse. There has to be a reason/pattern to this, and you know what your mods have going on in the background more than anyone. What could your mod be doing that makes it appear ON LOAD? Heavy scripts? There is some nugget of info there waiting to be found, especially in the sense of determining whether this is an issue with the engine/latest update. -

Just tested it again, it's definitely one of your mods Tony, probably Genesis that makes the rainbow of death appear ON SAVE LOAD. While testing without them I did a bunch of things that potentially bring on the bug and the dialogue options were there; even after I could see the rainbow of death in the save menu after while, my dialogue options were still available (which is rare after the rainbow appears). If the bug comes from bad modding, are your bugs bad mods? I say this not to be a douche, because I find skyrim to be lacking now without all of the sot features in my game. I just hope this shines more light on the fact that THIS HAS TO BE AN ISSUE FROM THE UPDATE Bethesda pushed through months ago and/or an engine bug that Bethesda is ignoring. -

Hey Tony, your mods specifically seem to exaggerate this issue more than any other. For over 100 hours now, anytime I had this issue arise and I couldn't talk to one of my followers (dialogue disappeared) I could exit out of the game and re enter. You can always check if the bug has popped up just by going to save your game. If the image of your previous saves can be seen, the bug hasn't shown up yet. If you see the rainbow of death, the bug is there. Recently I installed your genesis spawn mod and SOT sleeping encounters mod, and nothing else. Before installing them, this is how things would play out: I speak to a follower, but the dialogue I need is missing (bug is present). I exit out of the game and reboot and reload. I speak to the follower, everything is fine (bug not present). I save my game, and verify the bug is still not there. After installing those two mods of yours: I speak to a follower, dialogue is missing. I reload and reboot. Before even trying to speak to the follower, I go to save my game and I see the bug yas already popped up. No matter how many times I reload and reboot, YOUR MODS SPECIFICALLY make it so that I am permanently locked out of all dialogue with my followers. The rainbow of deatb appears the second I load into my game. Before, I could always load in, make another save, and the rainbow of death wasn't there, and ni dialogue options would be missing. Now your mod just sends them all straight to breakville. NOW before you say that it is because of mt bad modding, let me temind you of a post I made about 6 months ago, maybe even in this thread. I had been doing crazy amounts of testing with this bug. I finally got to a point where I had actually started a new game and not seen the bug for over 10 hours, not once in that single save. I decide to get ballsy and add nothing but your SOTfull mod. AS YOUR MOD ACTIVATES IN THE 4 MINUTE WINDOW, I GET THE BUG. There is no doubt that something in your mods exacerbates the issue exponentially, even if 'no one on the SOT team ever got it'. I'm sorry but if that's true, then no one on the SOT team has modded. -

What about your dialogue options and text boxes? None of those disappear? I also get random parts of the ground terrain missing where you can fall through the world into nothingness untik you exit out and relaunch the game. -

Man this is so sad. I've spent so much time setting up a 400+ ultimate modded setup and it runs so well, so stable, absolutely beautiful... but this bug keeps happening after I load into new cells, after battles, after the same situations most people have. It even does it after I use the ineed action to drink from a stream. My setup would be my favorite game ever - a game I'd play for years still even after having a few thousand hours put in. But this bug is such a buzzkill. I wouldn't even care about not being able to reload or die as long as the text boxes and dialogue didn't disappear. Disappearing dialogue ruins immersion and makes it a huge pain in the ass when doing pretty much anything. Questing, using followers, just walking through a city. Goddammit Bethesda, why do you torture me and tease me like this? The ultimate game is soooo close I can taste it. But this f*#@ING BUG ruins it. Goddammit
