Items are invisible in workshop menu +no icons
YourMuse replied to wolfzity's topic in Fallout 4's Discussion
I'm having the same problem, I'm using vortex so this is suppolsedly the program to use for mods to be installed correctly, I haven't used any other kind of mod organizer. It's not all the items, and do have SMM and SKE which the menus are there, and some items the icon is invisible and the item is invisible... So has anyone fixed this problem? Seems like it's not so much the mod organizer but perhaps something with the workshop or some simple fix that someone has used that fixes them? -
I am having the same problem. Over A year ago I started modding and only ever used vortex. It worked fine, had no issues. Then I lost my rig, and now just a year later, I got another one and started to installing and modding Fallout 4 again. The game ran fine for one day, then started getting 'couldn't read arguements' and vortex diagnostic saying it couldn't find the F4SE.log file. No one seemed to help, just suggest I installed it wrong in the first place...so I went to uninstall and reinstall everything again, following instructions for manual install. Still same error. Some suggested I try to launch the game from the fallout 4 folder from the f4se launcher, so I did, and it worked and so did the game...was sorta happy except that the game would CTD sometimes, then would not start again until after I went to a different profile and like my test one that only has F4SE enabled.. Then go back into profile and the game would start and get past the menu and load menu. Play for hours then exit the game and fine, then try to go back in and it's the same. Then I tried to back up files into onedrive and they tried to access the vortex saves folder, and the program went hogwild ballistic, deleted records, deleted plugins, etc. I had to restore my vortex from the previous day and then reinstall all mods I had installed since then. I had to clean all the DLC's and it was a hot mess...don't use onedrive to back up your files...disastrous. I never had any problems with vortex until I started this new install in March when I got this rig. So basically, not liking it at all. I'm thinking of installing an old version of it and seeing if things goes well, and then updating that one. And no one has a fix for the 'couldn't read arguements' problem so still using my workaround using a shortcut to the F4SE launcher and playing that way instead of within vortex. It's all made me want to change mod organizers to like MO2 that all my friends are so absolutely adore and hate vortex even though they never used it. I like vortex and would love some real solutions instead of the usual 'you installed it wrong, or it's a mod thing when all these mods I've used worked perfectly fine just a year ago, and have updated versions since I had to go and download all the mods again....not easy after the Nexudous that happened after the collections feature was announced. I wonder do you still have problems with it or did you find a solution other than loading an older version of it?

I got this same error: warn: couldn't initialize extension name=script-extender-installer, err=window is not defined, stack=ReferenceError: window is not definedSat, 15 Apr 2023 23:19:54 GMT - info: next step processing=undefined, nextStepId=undefinedIs it the mod see thru scopes? That one never use to mess up the game before, Well, good to know.Let me know if that is the one, I haven't been able to figure out why it's doing that, the game crashes before the main menu. Been trying to figure out what the hell..

I had a problem with saves, mine disappeared from the saves in vortex and it was because of the one drive was backing up my files, usually don't do that but I guess it tried to save vortex files like the mod staging folder and of course saves, and they disappeared, I did a restore of vortex from the previous day before the saves were disappeared and they did return but it really screwed up the mods I had just installed, then when launch the game it launched in a small window instead of full screen. I use to like vortex but this time around, after all this, I don't what to do anymore. One day it''s all good then I start getting an error saying 'couldn't read errors, in which I sent diagnostic files and it couldn't find my F4SE.log file. Well, all I get from one guy is I installed it wrong, no way, I've installed F4SE on 8 computers, all worked fine, then this one, poof, nothing but problems. No one had a solution except one asked me if I could go lauch it from the launcher for F4SE and see if it works. Well, that worked, I created a short cut and the ESL mods worked but if I got too many saves the game would crash. Now this...all because the onedrive tried to access vortex files to save them, Uninstalling and reinstalling didn't fix the first error so Im about to throw my hands up cuz I don't know how to fix the problem nor do I understand it. The old vortex, from a year ago worked wonderfully, but this one....grrrrrrr.

Thanks for this thread, I lost my rig, taken...but ahem, got me a new one, as I have installed the game and all the familiar mods from what I used just fine a year ago, now are causing CTD, older settlement esp's, and especially ESL, older files, in diagnostics it mentioned the older plugin files like it's missing something. I was bummed cuz these are ESLs that worked fine before so Im guessing theyve updated the game in this past year since I haven't gotten to play so Im gonna try that version check thing and test it out to see if it mkes the game CTD right at start up, it ws the only mods Id installed since last time I launched the game. They ruin our ability to play the mods we love, pretty sure they want us to buy a new game, and stop playing this one. I will check back and see if it works for me. Is there a way to fix the old ESL files that worked before but now cause CTD?

I think you misunderstood what I was saying I did. I have set the link for F4SE to the executable, made it primary and tried to launch with vortex. This is the target: E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\f4se_loader.exe It still gave me the error: couldn't read arguements Someone suggested I try launching it from the F4SE launch directly and see if it worked with vortex closed. IT WORKED, the game started up. So I created a shortcut from the F4SE to my desktop and left vortex open to see if the mods would work and launched the game, YES...the mods work, as if I had launched it from within vortex. So, no, I have never set the launch for the game from a shortcut....that would be silly. I don't know what caused this error in vortex, it just started the day after I installed it and played the game fine the day before launched it within vortex like always. I've tried everything to resolve the error including looking for this F4SE.log file that vortex is looking for. I deleted nothing, made no changes except to move my appdata folder to the other drive, which has nothing to do with the F4SE.log file it couldn't find. The only difference now is I just use my F4SE shortcut with vortex open and it works like it did before, mods work, game works... I just can't launch it within vortex since that error still shows up. Don't know how to fix it unless I could create the F4SE.log file and place it in the folder Vortex is looking for it at or some how find it and copy/paste. It's an error Ive never seen before. So, now I know it's not F4SE that isn't working, it's Vortex that can't find the F4SE.log file.
-
Thanks, that is what I did...it worked, the game runs fine and the mods work too. I just think it's a vortex thing, so thank you for the suggestion. I have no problem launching it this way if it works the same as if I launched it in vortex and it does.
-
Yes, it is pointed at the correct file, I set it as primary and tried what you said and still get this error. Im pretty sure this is something to do with vortex because I never changed the launch path or anything to do with the game except the appdata file, and then got that erro. Thanks for the suggestion and all, I already tried this after uninstalling and reinstalling both ways. Im guessing it's vortex and not anything I did
-
Well, I didn't change anything with vortex when I started getting that error 'couldn't read arguements'. I simply tried to launch it the way I did before thru vortex. The only change I made was not related to F4SE in vortex appdata downloads location which vortex clearly gives instructions on how to do that. With that being said, I did launch F4SE as an administrator because in Windows 10 you are not an administrator and it asks anyway if that is ok to install or any other program which gives you administraot rights as that is how it's set up-. Anyway, it worked, I created a short cut to F4SE on my desktop, keeping vortex open and the mods work so I suppose it's problem solved as I can now use the ESL mods. But even after I did this, vortex still gives me the same error as before, so not sure how to fix this vortex problem launching with F4SE that showed up missing file, which I never did anything to effect this in vortex to begin with. I just searched for resolutions with this error, and no one has a solution to fix it except to tell me I installed it wrong when I installed according to vortex instructions, thru vortex and then manually according to vortex, so I've tried everything to resolve the issue with vortex launching with the launcher that worked before then suddenly didn't. The game works fine this way so it's a workaround the problem error that came up now. thanks for all your input, but the one who suggested I try launching the game with F4SE within the folder worked and so if anyone has a solution to fix vortex error 'couldn't read arguements', Im all in on that...

This is not a warning you should be concerned about, it simply means that the log for F4SE didn't exist when Vortex tried to check it for errors. This will have no impact on the game itself. I tried what you said, and launched F4SE as administrator, and the game started up, with vortex closed. I then tried to launch with the script extender Icon link within vortex and it says the same thing, couldn't read arguements. So I then created a short cut to desktop for F4SE and launched the game with vortex open and it launched just fine. So what is the deal with vortex, why is it giving me this message when there is nothing wrong with the F4SE program itself? It worked fine one day, then next day....this. I changed nothing in it except the link for the appdata downloads that is suppose to move the downloads location to the new folder as instructed by vortex, and the game works fine launching with the Fallout 4 launcher and the F4SE launcher with vortex open or shut. Does this have anything to do with vortex....no clue, if the game will use the script extender and deploy the mods and that works, then for me it's a vortex problem, nothing to do with anything Ive done according to Vortex instructions. I will keep you posted if the mods work within the game launching it with the shortcut instead and with vortex open and see if that works. Otherwise, I have no clue how to fix this problem for vortex to launch it thru it.
-
I haven't tried that, I will do that and see if it resolves the issue with Vortex. I have been able to launch the game with the Fallout 4 launcher thru vortex without the F4SE and the mods not requiring it work. Ill try it and let ya know if it worked. Thanks.

Thanks for that, vortex set up the downloads or staging folder on the drive with the game. This particular file just has documents in it, like the MCM and Place anywhere and isn't the downloads file for that. The file that went missing and started all of this was the one mentioned above in documents. I was also eventually gonna try to have saves put on the other drive...but Ive never had this problem before with thei F4se.log file going missing. That happened the next day after I tried to start the game again with the F4SE scrript extender like always.... got that error, been trying to figure out why every since. I deleted nothing before I got that error. I only moved the app data folder like it tells you it can and the documents F4se.log folder isn't located in app data. That file is just gone. Does anyone know if I can create thihs F4se.log file with Note++ to stop this error since that is the file that went missing somehow.

The C:\Users\owner\Documents\My Games\Fallout4\F4SE folder you spoke of is there... There are several files in it but only two F4SE text files., not sure how to fix this problem with the couldn't read arguements. there folder is there, just not a log file from doing a search for it.

Well, It was working perfectly fine before, then next day turn on and try to start it, got the 'couldn't read arguements error. I location of the file you mentioned: C:\Users\owner\Documents\My Games\Fallout4\F4SE but it couldn't find the F4SE.log file you speak of. It can't find the file log, I followed Vortex instructions on both manual installation and vortex installation which I used before and worked fine. I've unzipped the folder and put the file in like it said. My game is on another drive which steam lets you put your library on another drive, Maybe it has to do with the downloads folder which I switched to the E:\owner\AppData\Roaming\Vortex\fallout4 Aside from the vortex tutorial, and the online various people who have uploaded videos showing how to install it, Do you have any other way of installing it? I can find no other way to install it as vortex videos and knowledge base pretty much say the same thing to install it. I cannot find a F4SE.log, but if vortex or any other tutorial skipped that part of what I would need in the documents file for F4SE then please do enlighten me, I am not trying to be flippant or disrespectful, I have followed them all for vortex and for fallout 4, and yes, it worked find for a day, but maybe changing the download link? I don't know, All I know is I have uninstalled everything, the game, vortex, by vortex's instructions how to uninstall and even the game, reinstalled, and game worked fine without vortex but still giving me the same error after reinstalling everything....two ways...manual and thru vortex like the tutorial says you can. Thank you for trying to help.

I installed it the same way it's always worked, this was working fine until today, so if I installed it incorrectly, then how did it work before? but now it's giving me an error message? Never had a problem before...three installs on three computers, working fine on this one...then this.

My script extender was working fine, did a play thru as a Lupine, then tried to go back and play again but the save was not there and then next time tried to play and vortex tells me it couldn't read arguements in F4SE. Ugh, all I did different from playing to going to play again was add more mods, I created a test profile and with F4SE enabled and it said the same thing so Im thinking it's the script extender, can someone tell me what to look for or some fix for this? I uninstalled F4Se and reinstalled, still same message. Don't know what changed or happened with it, Thanks for any help or suggestions. Nancy
