Where should I go at level 4?

All,

I'm level 4 and I'm getting eaten alive trying to go anywhere near the Radio where my dad quest leads, or anything vaguely over there (War Memorial; the town starting with G with the fire ants; etc). It is ripping me up. I'm having a hard time finding ammo for anything other than my 10 mm pistol. I only barely beat that stupid Mechanist guy because I had a flamer I'd been carrying around. My 10 mm, even with skill 56 in small weapons, wasnt doing crap to those robots, and I havent seen any Assault Rifle ammo in forEVER.

I'm looking for somewhere "easy" or at least straightforward. From Megaton, which direction should I go that can be explored with some measure of safety? West? North?

All things East, and East-by-Northeast, and East-by-Southeast ... are ripping me up.

Help?

Thanks!

It sound like you're in Grayditch. Stray away from there and return to Megaton. From Megaton, head slightly north and you should reach Springvale. There's an elementary school in Springvale that's relatively easy to explore. Off to the west of Springvale is Vault 106, and while tougher than the elementary school, is still not that overwhelming.

Are there any other safe towns (such as Megaton) that I can get to easily? What direction are they?

Thanks!

well....if you wanna challenge yourself a little you could head north and go to Big town and help them with their super mutant problem. Personally you really dont have to worry about level so much. hell I did a "Right out of the vault" challenge. I took down all of Paradise Falls at level 2 with just stuff I got out of the vault on very hard. it was extremely hard to do. real key to the challenge was being resourceful. basiclly I waited for lots of slavers to run near a car and instead of shooting the slavers I shot the car in order to kill 5 of them. killing them gave me access to their weapons not to mention on the left by the entrance there they have an armament supply altough not very powerful its still better than nothing. its very important to be aware of surroundings like this. Looking for cars and areas where you could salvage a ton of weaponry. The challenge however was a very hard challenge ill have to finish the video. I filmed it all about a week ago but its really long. part 1 alone is about 8 mins. ill be sure to post the challenge when im finished though and ill send you link if you want so you can see kind of how another person plays.

the way I see this game its a lot like...Quake or Duke Nukem or any other first person. now you can play it more like an RPG useing VATS but it really helps to get used to playing free hand. I only vats when I need to do something very precise in a very tiny amount of time or for melee since I think it looks cooler with vats + Combat Knife. try free handing it abit. it could help a ton. You do however seem rather new so if I was at your skill level I would use Vats a LOT more. but it is good to practice a bit free hand.
