aaronwalkerz
I'm sorry if this is a repeat of another person but i play on ultra maxed out, but i simply cannot get into the game with how sh-poopy the far distance looks, yes i use Enhanced Distance Terrain but it makes almost 0 difference, I also tried bumping the ugrids up but had to revert to default again after constant CTD'ing. So my question to you is...what the hell can i do to make it look better far off?
K00L
I think there are a few other mods besides just Enhanced Distant Terrain that effect LODs and etc.Like this:http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/4834/? I suggest searching: LODThere are probably textures you could find that would help as well. Other than that take a look at some of the .ini tweak guides. I remember looking at one described the changes someone made for some really good distant views in screenshots. Don't remember where it is, but you could probably find it by Google-ing. aaronwalkerz
Thanks, i'll be looking at the LOD you posted, my only problem is when i edited my ini for the ugrids it looked amazing, but the games engine simply cannot handle for a higher ugrid.(read from bethesda). I just dont see how if its not stable, then why do people that use it CTD and some dont?..or are there mods that make things look better as if a ugrid of 7 or 9 was used? Georgiegril
I use 7 grids and have a stable game on a rather old GPU.However, I have made a number of tweak that reduce the load in other areas--I have reduced particles, leaf animation, texture sizes in some places, etc. And I do not use mods that increase the spawns, NPCs, or affect weather, lighting, or the like. I use the lower-res option of mods like SMIM or Vurt's Flora, disable auto saves and do not mess with a game once I've got it set up to my liking and stable. I also have a very good processor and sufficient RAM, which have allowed me to force some of the load onto those. But really, it is a matter of what is most important to you and what you are willing to give up to get those things. You might be able to go up to 7 ugrids (I doubt 9) but do you really want to make the concessions you would need to in order to do that? In my case, the answer was yes, but perhaps your answer will be different.

and minor things if it would help in the long run making distance look cleaner
Georgiegril
You might find this site useful. It's old, but it has a lot of info on various tweaks and how they affect the game for high and low end computers.I used a lot of his info-- he discusses the leaf animation, particles, most of the major things. However, I have to say, that if you are interested in the distant view enough...it will take a fair amount of time, patience, and experimentation.Generally speaking, if 7 grids is that important to you, I'd suggest starting with a complete clean installation, no mods, only the DLCs (But not the hi-res textures). Then start working on just the tweaks. Get the game stable at 7 ugrids on an unmodded game. When you are convinced you are stable, start adding mods one at a time. Read everything the mod author provides. Chose lower res options. If a mod is describing itself as hi-res, or states that it requires a high-end graphics card or a lot of memory, then don't use it. (or, you can try, but maybe that is the only mod you get to run.) What you are doing is pushing the game past what it was set up to do. I can't just tell you to do this, this, and this...it greatly depends on not just your system specs, generally, but your specific system--there is variation even between two identical graphics cards just off the manufacturing line, for example. Your computer system is a unique environment and you can't expect that what works for someone else will necessary work for you. So you will need to try things one change at a time, tweak a setting just a bit, try it, tweaks it a bit more... It is not something for people who like to just play, but rather for people who think messing with settings all day IS play. If that doesn't seem worth the time, then you might also try the distant decal fix mod--I haven't used it myself, but it may be a good alternative for you.
