Nakednordbarbarian0
It is perfectly possible to destroy the Dark Brotherhood. However, you will miss out on a lot of quests and a lot of loot. You still can, in the process, grab some unique gear from Astrid and the DB members, but some missions and XP will be unavailable. You can't kill the Thieves Guild, but you can decide to not join them. And yes, it will make the game shorter but you probably didn't want to join either of them anyway. AnkhAscendant
There actually is a "destroy the thieves guild" mod as well... If you don't your only option is to ignore them and be harassed by Brynjolf every time you go into Riften. Destroying the factions is shorter than partaking of them, but unless you're going for an utter completionist it doesn't hurt much.
rhowington
Since my first playthrough I have destroyed the Dark Brotherhood. Murdering people for money just isn't my thing. I also use the Destroy the Thieves Guild mod mentioned above. It's not that I am being self righteous, I literally can't get enough of bandits, vampires, dragons, drauge and anything else that comes my way. I just don't like being labeled a thief and a murderer. However, I have absolutely no problem with those that do. My son plays both with zest. gsmanners
You have to admit, it is at least interesting to note the inherent contradiction of killing an old woman who didn't provoke you personally, and then expecting to keep your hands clean. Sirropoo
Having played the game thru several times, opt'ing to destroy the Assassins guild is a viable alternative to the "Same-O"game play thru, this MOD will extend the "Destroy the Dark Brotherhood" quest a little bit.http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/35785 I havent played "Destroy the Thieves Guild" MOD but once again, to change the game play thru, I'll try anything :) But as mentioned above, NOT joining the guilds really reduces game play time. To change the way I played the game, I decided to play a pure Mage ...then I realized that the end result is the same thing, level 81 and all skills maxed, a hybrid, can't avoid it. StayFrosty05
As for the Original question, I personally feel Skyrim has enough going on all over the place to not worry about missing a quest line or two, it's negligible....My Dovahkin doesn't join any of the Guilds or the College, but I certainly get more hours of game time out of Skyrim and more than enough things to do, minor quests, places to discover, etc...to worry about not doing a few quests. I play a Dovahkin also who wouldn't join the DB or TG either, or do a number of the Daedric Quests, his not into 'evil' or abusing the defenseless....always destroys the DB, that's a lot of fun.... ....most often destroys the TG also, though i haven't worried about a Mod to do so, I just remove their 'essential tags' and open the Cistern door via the console...interesting to note, they actually put up a much better fight than the DB, their a lot of fun to battle....

I suppose if you're role-playing a responsible Thane of Riften who decides to go Dirty Harry on Riften, you'd be inclined to see it that way. Of course, you wouldn't neglect to help out a few poor Argonians in need (even if what they want is stuff like gems or whatever).
kingkoopaboy
You don't have to do anything. The beauty of this game is, you can do whatever you want.
