  1. For reference, I made what I assumed was a helpful and informative remark in the UDBP thread, and the author took it upon himself to report it. Since then, I've made a follow up remark that better explains what I was reporting, but I have yet to get a response. I know you guys are busy and all, but this is rather irritating. Thanks for reading this. I hope you guys can get this site running better.
  2. Here's an idea: magical lockpicks that you can conjure. We have Bound Pickaxe, so why not Bound Lockpick? I'm only asking this because the traditional magical open lock spells never work no matter which mod I try. There's always a door or a portal that absolutely requires a lockpick of some kind.
  3. Wow. That was rude. I guess you failed history class. Carry on, then. I'll just go and be "immature" without your input.
  4. LOL Rorikstead is an ancient village (many thousands of years old), and it owes its existence to the fact that: a) It's in the middle of freaking nowhere, so nobody cares what happens there. b) It's halfway down probably the most well-traveled road between Whiterun and Solitude. c) Those darn Bretons and their black magic. Nothin' good 'll come o' that.
  5. Fixing everything all at once is a pretty big task for anyone. This is why you need to avoid big mods and overhauls like they're made of radioactive waste. Suddenly, the game starts crashing and no one can help you. You add small mods and gradually increase the size and complexity of the mods until you can't stand the instability. That's your threshold for modding pain. My own threshold is really really low, so I never touch overhauls.
  6. All this progressive idealism is heartwarming, but it doesn't really fit the Skyrim world. Honestly, I wish the game was more regressive. In other words, you steal an apple, the whole town goes berserk and tries to kill you and your entire family and everyone who likes you. The only way to escape the mob is to run to a city of "refuge" and hope you don't get killed by one of the many subtle cutthroats that infest cities of that nature. Now, that would be nice and primitive. More like the way I imagine Skyrim should be.
  7. I'm not aware of any info on all that, and it would be a pain to look that up right at the moment (I don't have HF installed right now and I never bother with kids in the normal houses even when I play HF).
  8. I would say play it vanilla in whatever way seems best for your character, then start maybe thinking about mods. Then DLCs.
  9. Actually, you could probably do that, but only if the video driver control panel supports it (like custom modes for the nvidia driver). Otherwise, you'd be stuck doing that with Wine in Linux (and using a script to set your xrandr settings, etc.).
  10. I agree with you, actually. The thing is, people never save as often as they should, and heaven forbid there be consequences to actions like that (especially attacking a Jarl which should be a strict death penalty offense).
  11. The game's AI is sadly lacking in an "annoyance" disposition that might better reflect that situation. Given the fact that this is Elder Scrolls, you're actually lucky all they do is try to kill you.
  12. It might help if your weapon wasn't so powerful that it killed the guard on the second blow. That's the thing. The guards' disposition is obviously higher than it starts out the game with. So, you can get away with maybe three or four assaults. Try attacking a guard with your fists and see what happens.
  13. I'm surprised you don't have moar bugs, considering you don't have USKP.
  14. LOL I could maybe dream about settings that high. So, you like wasting CPU time, huh? Yeah... Not gonna happen on my system Items you could bump up to 2, but those 5s really ought to be 4 or lower. 2K Textures and RLO on a low-end system? Really? Really? I'm sorry, but I can't take any of that seriously.
  15. Mass enable doesn't tend to work out well in this game for some weird reason. Maybe this is some weird bug in Story Manager. It probably just assumes anything with default AI that doesn't have a scene must be a loot target.
  16. Don't use the console? Go back to a save before you started using it for that and keep finding pendants until you've collected however many there are. I suspect there's a counter on the base strongbox script that looks for actual movement from the strongbox to your inventory to bump the count. You console your way around that and of course it'll fail the quest.
  17. It's just Pete making work for himself again. The rest of the team is done. Stick a fork in it.
  18. So, you'll be highlighting Hearthfire? (Sorry, I can't help myself.) The one annoying thing most people do is they just record everything and post without editing. I know editing is a lot of work, but to really stand out I think you really have to. I'd honestly rather see one well-edited five minute video than a good one hour of unedited video.
  19. Only if you didn't ask them, first. Some authors want more than just credit, and some authors will expressly forbid you from distributing any such thing.
  20. 27 inches? Oh, yeah. Turn your head to see from one side to the other? Now, that is an upgrade.
  21. An old woman who abuses those weaker than herself and can't protect themselves from her....have you seen the room with the child height shackles?... ....Don't get me wrong, I would have much preferred and alternate way of dealing with her and getting her the hell away from the kids for good....But Skyrim is very Medieval and as such justice is a lot harsher than we are used to in our real lives....and so as such harsh dealings such as her being put to death does fit Skyrim's medieval social and brand of justice environment. I suppose if you're role-playing a responsible Thane of Riften who decides to go Dirty Harry on Riften, you'd be inclined to see it that way. Of course, you wouldn't neglect to help out a few poor Argonians in need (even if what they want is stuff like gems or whatever).
  22. So, what type of lighting mods do you have? Looks like a load order issue to me.
  23. More like, what are their health stats? What scripts do you have attached to them? What factions do they belong to? What are their AI rules?
  24. If you have a running quest that creates an alias of that NPC and that alias flags them as essential or not essential, then the game will ignore the actor's flag in favor of the alias. This is why, for example, you cannot flag characters as not essential that are involved in the Companions quest or the Aedra-related quests until their aliases get cleared.
