Nephenee13
Okay, thanks. I've been modding for years but this is my first upload so there's a lot I don't know; I just don't want to corrupt any players' saves. You have to work really, really hard to corrupt people's saves in Oblivion.
Lanceor
The problem with persistent references is that they're persistent. :P Let's say your door was on the left hand side facing north. You update the mod so that it is now on the right hand side facing east. When the player loads the game, the door will still be on the left hand side facing north. Note that the mesh and the script for persistent references are not persistent. So if you changed your wooden door scripted to hum into a stone door scripted to shoot fireballs, the changes will take effect immediately. However, the position coordinates and rotation of the door will be unchanged which could lead to alignment issues depending on how similar the two meshes are. I haven't tried what happens when you delete them, but I suspect that they won't delete. The best bet is not to delete them but use a script to bury them underground and replace them with new persistent references. If only Skyrim was this forgiving of updates. :P
Craddok
If only Skyrim was this forgiving of updates. :P Oh, great. I'm planning on starting to mod Skyrim soon, so I guess I've got that to look forward to. Anyway, thanks for the details on persistence conflicts. The results seems obvious in retrospect.
