Announcing Beyond Skyrim: Cyrodiil

Part of what made Morroblivion and RFCW such successful projects despite their violations of the EULA was that they were relatively easy ports that did not lose much in the translation. Morrowind didn't have much voice acting and a lot was the same under the hood as Oblivon, so that ported fairly well. Fallout 3 and New Vegas were practically the same game, with just a few differences in the engine, so that port was practically handed to that group. A translation of Oblivion or Morrowind to the Creation Engine won't be as clean. Literally every single quest would need to be completely rescripted.

Recoding considerations aside, Skywind will never be built from completely original assets. They would need to re-record every single line of dialogue and completely remodel every single mesh from the ground up. That isn't to say there isn't a place in the modding community for the group. They do fantastic work figuring out the differences between the game engines and their research drives development of several modder tools.

You have to remember a few things. When you create the capital: the Imperial City, you remember to scaled it appropriate. Why? As in Oblivion city was too small that it can be capital. The second issue is the expansion of the Imperial City, and the destruction caused by the war of the south Cirodiil with Aldmeri Dominion. You can add the refugee camps in small villages (remember about the persecution of people by elves). White Gold Tower needs to be battered by the former siege, its texture may be no longer white but gray, with missing blocks of limestone and reinforced with metal plates.
Keep up your work. Good job!

As stated in a previous update, these assets will be available as a modders resource later in September, but if you want to be part of building the various settlements of Cyrodiil be sure to sign up as a level designer over at Dark Creations, here's the sign up thread.

We hope to see you there.

Thanks, you guys, for keeping us updated on how things are going. I get excited every time I see a new screen, especially with the architecture. I love hearing that some of you will be releasing your assets as modders resources. As a house modder, I can't tell you how much I appreciate having new things to work with.

Glad you like it! Looking forward to seeing what you can do with these assets once released.

Just found out about this mod (and the whole beyond Skyrim thing) recently. I was just wondering, that considering that Talos worship is banned, will you be making the Talos Chapel in Bruma a chapel of Kynareth or something?

  • 3 weeks later...

We got some screenshots from Applewatch, a small settlements northwest from Bruma. It has grown by a few buildings the past two hundred years.
