Looking for a gaming PC, medium budget.

Recommended Posts

Hello all

I'm thinking of buying myself a new gaming PC. But I'm not really that much into Hardware to decide which one to pick.

I do know the following:

  • My budget is around 1000 euros, 1100 at max. (equals roughly 1300-1500 USD)
  • I want my new PC to last for at least 5 years.
  • I'll be using my PC for gaming: Skyrim, TESO, and other future titles. (But also for watching DVD and Blu Ray movies)
  • I'm not buying a new screen, keyboard, mouse or speakers. I'll keep using my old ones. So no need to include those in the total price.
  • I'm looking in particular for a decent PSU, GPU and CPU and sufficient RAM. Ones that will last for at least 5 years before needing to upgrade.
  • 1 TB HDD is more than enough (maybe an extra HDD with 500 GB for backup)
  • Win7 64bit (no Windows 8 yet, because of possible incompability issues)
  • Motherboard, possibility for possible future upgrades.
  • GPU-wise, I prefer a NVIDIA card, a decent one. (DDR5, at least 2 GB VRAM)
  • PSU: powerful enough to support the future upgrades.
  • CPU and RAM: I don't know that much about those, but they should be decent as well. (8 GB RAM at least) (For future game titles)
  • Optional, a decent Blu Ray Drive if possible. (Which can also read DVDs/CDs)
  • Also, optional, a decent cooling system (CPU and GPU) that doesn't make too much noise.

I don't know if it's possible to get all that for my budget though. As I said, my knowledge is Hardware is pretty limited. But all advice is welcome.

Thanks in advance

Kind regards

Andre

USA? /eligible for major online retailers

Are you able and willing to order parts right today or tomorrow if there are expiring deals etc?

(DDR5, at least 2 GB VRAM)

You shouldn't concern yourself with such matters, these are only means of achieving desired performance, what matters is the end result. Or would you pick a GTX460/2048 over GTX580 because the latter only has 1.5GB?

To begin with, look at other recent builds in this section.

my build was in your price range and this is what i got:

Fractal Arc Midi (Arc Midi 2 is out now)

128gb SSD (though id recommend a 256gb)

1tb HDD

i5-3570k CPU

ASRock z77 Extreme 4 mobo

Corsair H100i

8gb ddr3 ram

Gigabyte 7950 2gb GPU

Seasonic 650W 80 Plus Gold PSU

Corsair K90 mechanical Keyboard

Dell U2312HM 23" IPS Monitor

Asus CD/DVD RW player (though you want Blu Ray)

though i was able to get Win7 Pro x64 for free through school, so youll have to figure that (~$100) into your build as well. also i bought my GPU a little later, couldnt afford it at the time of my build, so i think it came a month or less later. take that into concideration too. is there stuff you dont need right off the back (such as a second HDD?)....including replacing all the fans in my case with Corsair Air series ones, and adding some RBG lights, i think the total build came up to around ~$1600....but you dont need a monitor or keyboard, so theres $300+ saved right there. replacing fans and adding lights is non essential so take another ~$200 off. and now youre looking at ~$1200 to build what i have (i think lol. im going off the top of my head and memory for prices)

I did some searching. Does this build look any good?

  • Intel Core i5 3570k 3.40 GHz Sa 1155 BOX (CPU)
  • Thermalight HR-02 Macho (CPU Cooler)
  • 8 GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR-3 1600 DIMM CL9 Dual Kit (RAM)
  • ASRock Z77Pro3 Intel Z77 So.1155 Dual Channel DDR3 ATX (Motherboard)
  • 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST1000MD03 64MB 3.5 (8.9cm) SATA 6 GB/s (HDD)
  • 2048 MB Palit GeForce GTX 770 JetStream (GPU)
  • 480 Watt be quiet! Straight Power E9 CM Modular 80+ Gold (PSU)
  • Standard DVD Drive from Samsung (or Blu Ray, if it's not too expensive)
  • Win7 64bit

Is this a realistic and decent future-proof (4 yrs-5 yrs) build? Or should I change something? All advice is welcome

Thanks in advance

Kind regards

Andre
