  1. Yes it is worth it but No it won't solve your problems. Cables are generally the best if you can. You wont have problems with interference or congestion, stability, etc. It wont hurt you in any way to use a cable so there's no reason not to as long as its feasible for you. That said, the cable won't magically give you more speed with the internet. Your lag might go down some, or any latency or jitter, and some things might be a bit faster due to the aforementioned reasons, but if you only have say 30MiB internet, the cable won't give you GiB speeds (except internally on your own LAN, but thats not important here). At the end of the day, your internet is your bottleneck. And even with a cable, if your roommate is doing something that uses up your bandwidth, you're going to notice even on a cable.
  2. i did a little more research and found that an A/B Audio Switch would also fit my needs. but then i realized, with my speakers plugged into my monitor for my PS4, that i just had to output the sound on my computer on my monitor too haha. i didnt think DP carried sound. so now im all set without spending a dime Thanks for your input!
  3. i mainly game on my PC, but i also have my PS4 hooked up to my monitor. i usually just have the PS4 sound go through my PS4 Wireless headset, but I think its starting to die. sound isnt as good as it used to be. so instead i plugged my speakers that I use for my PC, into my monitor, and that's something i should have been doing since the beginning. but what do i need to keep both the PC and the monitor/PS4 hooked up to it, so i dont have to keep switching the cable back and forth? I tried googling it, and came up with a Speaker Switch, but those seem to be one system, multiple speakers, so I wasn;t sure if that would do what I was looking for. Thanks guys!
  4. i was having the same dilema earlier this week for essentially the same build. i went the same route as you ddi and got this, upgrading from a 650W Best of luck to you!
  5. this should have been in the hardware section. if a mod wants to move it, that was my bad. I wasn't paying attention. Thanks for the response Kuno, that's what I was thinking, but wasn't sure.
  6. im looking into buying a UPS. just to hook up my computer and electronics too. surge protection and so that if my power goes out during a game, i can safely save and shut my system down correctly. i see these two both by CyberPower, one much cheaper than the other and with the addition of +2 outlets. but what gives? why so cheap? https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16842102134 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16842102048 hope someone knowledgeable with UPSs can assist. or recommend something else even. Thanks!
  7. i don't see any reason why it wouldn't However I couldn't find that exact model on the supported memory list (though found plenty close to it so it'd likely be fine) I did find this one though, it's in the list of supported memory straight from Asus for your specific motherboard, has a higher clock rate, and it's cheaper than the one you linked to. Plus it ships and is distributed by Newegg, which is better,
  8. did you try running a dskchk? won't stop you from getting a new drive, as it would still be bad, but it could stop the errors, and give you the opportunity to get the data off easily.
  9. i9s are priced to be very expensive, pretty sure they've released it officially as I've seen numbers from $1000 to $2000 for the highest end chip. its only for enthusiasts/epeen, or truly it's for Workstations. I just redid my system with the 7700k myself, so i haven't even been following the AMD stuff, but ill be impressed when I see real performance. AMD always has great benchmarks and hype, but then real world tests are less than flattering. I hope they do come out strong though. They need it.
  10. HeyYou has a good point. Check your Bios to see if there are any settings to shut your WiFi off or any sleep or power save settings in general.
  11. as the above poster said, the monitor doesn't have any effect on performance. your monitor is simply what your system is outputting to. if your monitor can only do 60fps @1080p, then that is the most you will see. if your system can output better than that, it won't matter, and if it can't you won't get that. now a monitor might look better than your TV, depending on what you have for a TV. if you only have a 720p TV and your monitor is 1080p, then it will certainly look better. and I've hooked my PS4 up to my monitor and I enjoy playing on it. so what it will really come down to is a preference, but not performance.
  12. i might just reinstall windows. considering all of my hardware has changed it wouldnt hurt to do so anyways. i did uninstall all old drivers and reinstalled what i needed, but not through safe mode. there's no drivers from my old system.
  13. i think the card is at 1936Mhz. I wasnt monitoring during the game, but it never broke 70 during FurMark. so i don't think it's a throttling issue or anything. Also for what it's worth, i got the card a week after I built the system, i had a 980Ti before, and was getting the same performance. Something else I didn't mention is the FPS doesn't go up if I change the settings or drop it to 1080p. i get exactly the same frames. Thanks!
  14. Good Morning Nexus friends! it feels like it's been a couple of years since I posted here. I have this topic going on the Blizzard and Diablo forums as well, but of course I had to try my friends here as well. So i recently built a new PC and i can't get 144fps with it? (actually this is cool in itself because i posted here something like 5 years ago when I was getting ready to build my previous and first ever system!) i7-7700k @4.5Ghz Gigabyte GTX 1080 16GB DDR4 RAM 3200Mhz Windows 10 x64 Gigabyte z270 k5 Board Dell S2716DG G-Sync 1440p 144Hz 1ms i get anywhere between 60-80fps. occasionally getting higher. often getting lower. The VERY first time i booted up my system and played the game i was getting 130fps and above rarely dipping. but since, i get the aforementioned fps. I've removed all old drivers from my system (my OS is from my previous build), reinstalled D3, reinstalled my graphics drivers. D3 is installed on an SSD. about the only thing I haven't done is do a clean install of Windows. Other games get 144Hz, and my benchmarks are all where they should be, and stress tests are all clean, so i know its not a faulty card/CPU. because i do get over 60, i know its not vSync enabled in game, and in the menu i get 144. Here is the kicker though. My friend has a nearly identical build to mine, and he gets 144 no problem (his specs listed below). the only difference i can think of is he is plugged into the internet, where i have to use WiFi. would this really hinder FPS? my latency is no difference then his. Can anyone think of what could be going on? i would normally chaulk it up to bad optimization, but he's getting the desired FPS. Thanks for your help guys. Friend's Specs: i7-6600k @4.6Ghz GTX 1080 Founder's 16GB DDR4 RAM 3000MHz Windows 10 x64 Asus z170 Board Dell S2716DG G-Sync 1440p 144Hz 1ms
  15. I didn't read through everyone's comments, but I would suggest neither. wait for the 1080ti to come out if you really want to upgrade. otherwise you aren't really jumping that much.
  16. Honestly, with your GPU you are fine. a 380 could likely play even new games High/Ultra (more High, less Ultra if you want to maintain 60fps) as someone said your CPU is a bit lacking and could be your bottleneck. my friend did what LeddBate suggested and upgrade his AMD CPU in socket, but honestly didn't fund much of an improvement. AMD just isn't that good, especially that series of chips. If you were really looking to invest/upgrade I would consider going over to Intel (which my friend did do and did notice a huge performance increase). The rest looks fine. 8GB RAM is still fine.
  17. I found Ease US and I am pretty sure that will do what I want. the HDD is 500gb and the SSD is 480gb (I wasnt sure when i was asking). i tested EaseUS real quick and found it simple enough. they have a tutorial on how to do what I want so I should be set now!
  18. I have a 500gb HDD that i need to clone to a 256GB SSD. The HDD only has about 100GB of stuff on there, which is why the SSD is smaller. All the tutorials ive seen mention going from smaller to bigger. I remember i tried this several years back (going from a bigger HDD to a smaller SSD, even though data amount left plenty of room) and it messed up. What software do you all recommend? i used Clonezilla previously, but really wanted to make sure it can do what I'm looking to do. Not worried if the recommended software is free or paid. I'll pay for a nice easy software haha. again the fact that the HDD is bigger than the SSD leaves me worried. just want to double check what to do Thanks All!
  19. Turned my PC on yesterday, only to find my mouse didnt work. Tried several ports on the back, USB 2.0 and 3.0 as well as the front port, nothing. tried a second mouse, just a basic mouse, nothing. when i shut down my PC i get a Driver Failure blue screen (forget exactly what is says) the only way I can get my mouse to work is to plug it in to my keyboard and use the pass through, and have to reboot. which his how i made it here. Really have no clue what to do. If it was one mouse, it'd be an issue with that mouse or drivers. but no mouse seems to work. Nothing happened between the night it worked and the next morning. Unless there was a Windows Update. I'm not even sure i'll take the time to really troubleshoot this just because I found a work around, unless someone here has any ideas of what I can do? Windows 10 Pro x64 Thanks All! EDIT: so the actual error is POWER_DRIVER_STATE_FAILURE. i can uninstall the USB Drivers from Manager, I can even scan for hardware changes, it just sits there scanning but never does anything. tried to download the USB Drivers from ASRock, but Repair and Remove just sit there as well. Headphones also do not work (USB Headphones) the only thing that works is the USB Keyboard and the passthrough it has. I tried plugging the mouse and headphones into that same port, and no luck.
  20. i installed it through the ISO (force updating didnt work). havent had a single problem this far. and none of the few people i know who have it have had any issues yet either. im loving it. i notice a difference jumping up from 7 in gaming. my friend says he can tell the difference between 8.1 and 10. is it huge? no. but its noticeable. theres a lot of settings to go through, turn off and on and whatnot. i love that i have BitLocker now. all in all, im loving Win10
  21. since im not lucky enough to get it to go automatically, ill be forcing it to push tonight. cant wait!!
  22. of those FO3, though im sure FO4 will take that. of any game im not sure. i think Ive sunk the most time into Demons Souls. I can always go back to it, but not 10 years straight. honestly I'd have to say StarCraft 2. basically an infinite amount of replayabliity.
  23. haha i went back to try any play this just now, got that error. googled it and clicked this link only to get a flashback of myself posting this.. anyways i did some digging, i simply went into the options.ini file and changed the resolution to what my monitor displays at, 1920x1080 and the game runs just fine now. no compatibility mode or run as admin or anything else necessary. i figured id mention it, if not for anyone else who happens along on this, but in the least for future hoof in case anything happens and the settings get reverted.
  24. I just recently rewatched all 4 Pirates of the Carribbean movies, and forgot how much i love them. just love the boats and the fact that as clearly unrealistic as it is, at one time it was all thought to be legitimate. The Flying Dutchman, The Kraken, The edge of the world, and so on. That at one time, people really lived lives as sea. Anyways, It got me in the mood to want to continue setting myself in that fantasy, but I dont really know of anything of that genre. I know AC4, but i still havent finished Brotherhood and its been like over 2 years since I last touched it, so it's not likely ill be jumping to AC4 any time soon. I dont really care for the game type, if it involves Pirates I'll consider it. So does anyone know of anything I can play to nail the thirst? PC first and foremost, but I'll consider PS3 and even Android games as well. Thanks!
