Bloody Mess

All,

I'm level 10 right now, and this is my first play-through. I have a level-up plan that is working for me so far, but I do have a spot at level 11 and at level 19 where the Perks I plan to take are essentially open to me. I am already planning on taking all the powers that gives VATS and Crit and Damage bonuses wherever I can, and I'm doing great.

I kinda want to take Bloody Mess, but the descriptions I've read make it seem cheesy from a visual perspective. More important though, does it make it hard to find corpses to loot them, especially when you are sneaking around in the dark?

Thanks!

If you shot the corpse you're planning on looting it will be easier with bloody mess as Bloody mess increases gore and blood.

Overall the effect of Bloody Mess increases your damage which is very helpful with a crit increase as well, it also adds a lot more blood and gore which is just cool. So I think it'd be good to take it.

Bloody mess is the easiest way to loot some enemies. Killed normally their body stays in an inaccessible spot, killed with bloody mess they spew gibs and gore all over the place, any of which can be looted as the full body - with all armor and weapons contained within. (A nice change if you ever spent 10 minutes searching the weeds in Oblivion for whatever the enemy dropped)

Two real drawbacks to it, the dismemberment animations get stale after the first few times - especially if you use VATS watching a target explode in slow motion loses its charm the 53rd time you watch it. Also, one quest gives a bonus for headshots - but even if you headshot the target it still blows off arms and legs and disqualifies you (not a huge deal, but maybe disappointing if you are a perfectionist on quests).

I think I will then continue with my plan to skip it. I'm already slaughtering everything right and left, and I dont like the idea that I'm turning things to a bloody spray with a pistol. :) Also, I am a perfectionist on stuff like quests. So, I'll just go with character concept over 5% damage and crit. I have all the other min-max stuff, or I will, so I'm good anyway.

Thanks all!

bloody mess makes it easier to reach the bodies since they are scattered over a larger area.

however it also makes distinguishing bodies difficult when it comes time to loot all the corpses. sometimes it can get confusing which pieces of which body belong to which enemy...

"I am so lost" says as I pick up two arms with a head laying next to me "Do these arms belong to this head or." Looks to the left seeing a second and third head "Do they belong to one of those heads?"

I can almost see this happining in game.

sorry I just had to do that.

I took bloody mess on my first character, but I never took it on another, Personally I think the gore system is slightly... majorly disappointing, as you can only take off the legs, arms, and head (or heads, in some cases) of the enemy's you encounter, and whenever you kill someone w/ bloody mess, or most of the time, everyone of there body parts goes flying, and your left with a limbless torso, and a bunch of body parts which are exactly the same, and the only change that may seem evident is the way in which they fly all over the place. while 5%+ damage is nice, it is hardly necessary, there are plenty of other useful perks and I think bloody mess ruins yet another sense of realism in the game, If you shoot someone in the head, yes there head should blow off or at least be bloodied, but NOT have every limb ripped off, and an excessive amount of blood spray everywhere.

Ultimately it's your choice, but I figured I should at least share my opinion.

Cheers, Lukas.
