DreamOfTheRood
Has anybody been watching this stuff? The crowd went absolutely bonkers tonight at the Gymnastics arena at the Olympics tonight after the judges kept giving out scores that were ... I don't know how to describe it. It was like the judges were basing the scores entirely on whether or not the athlete stuck the landing or not. Some gymnasts gave phenomenal performances only to be given low scores, while others gave average performances and got great scores. I don't remember if there was a controversy involving judges at the Sydney Olympics, but I do remember a big controversy at the Salt Lake City Winter Games. Whatever's going on, there need to be some serious changes regarding how the scoring is created in the Games. Oh, ferFigg'ssake, can I not spell 'judges?'Leave some feedback. FlightlessBird
I have been keeping up with the olympics and i recently saw the controversy of Paul Hamms gold medal. The judges incorrectly scored the gymnasts and awarded him a gold medal when someone else should have gotten it. Now, i think he deserved it but still, and error is an error and the judges were put on probation. Later in the competition, Paul Hamm was booed by some of the crowd. This, I think, makes no sense because it is not his fault that the judges are imbiciles. I agree and think that the judges need to get their acts together. -Bird
DreamOfTheRood
Close enough. You're talking about Yang Tae-Yung, the Korean all-around bronze medalist. It's true that his starting score should have been 10.0, but his routine was flawed. He should have been docked .2 for having an extra hold. Gymnasts are only allowed 3 holds, but Yang had 4, meaning that he still should not have received a gold medal. As to the booing in the crowd last night, Paul Hamm was only partially the recipient. Most of the crowd was booing at the judges, who had given a very biased score to a Ukranian, who is commonly referred to as the King.
Dinin
edit: I'm gonna apologize before the mods can get me. Sorry, i didn't really look that closely to the topic when it said "Gymnastics" What bothered me the most was boxing. This kind of pertains to scoring, but the judges are involved. I was surfing through the channels so i dont' really remember the names of the boxers but i know it was an American vs. A Bulgarian i think. Anyways. If you're not familiar with the scoring, the boxers gloves have white dots on them, and if the dot connects with the stomach or head they are awarded a point. Power has nothing to do with points, if you tap a guy on the head, you get a point, and if you nail a guy in the head and he staggers, but doesn't fall, you are still awarded with one measly point. The Bulgarian won the match but by WAY too much. The end score was like 27 to 11. Anyways, this was definately not fair. First off, all the Bulgarian did was dance and run away, he never attacked...NEVER. All he did was counterattack. I mean, its called boxing, and i know that weaving and evading your opponent is part of the strategy, but the key word there is part. So here you have an American thats attacking constantly (if he didn't they would have just stood there) and landing harder blows, while the Bulgarian just jabbed and had a few hard hits in there, and in the end had more landed blows. The scoring system is horrible! The Olympics really need to adopt the Boxing Association rules. If they had, the ref would have made the Bulgarian attack, I mean it was pathetic how the American had to chase his opponent. And I also watched both opponents closely, and it really looked like the judges were favoring the Bulgarian, the American was hitting in same places his opponent was, but it seemed the hits were ignored. I don't know, maybe its just me, but I really think they need to change alot of things with their boxing program. As you can tell with the length of this post, the match made me very mad.
