Tidus44
paraprosdokian; a figure of speech in which the latter part of a statement causes the reader or listener to reinterpret the first part. Aurielius
Conundrum- a question or problem having only a conjectural answer. If one fights fire with fire how come no one fights water with water?
Tidus44
pagophobia; fear of ice or frost No idea if or how one fights water with water, but I do know that at -20C if you trickle water into the rain gutters and door gaps on a car, no amount of effort will get the doors or hatchback open. I also think it may motivate the probie to not avoid shoveling snow from around the station in the future.
Aurielius
Ergophobia- The fear of work..sounds like your probe has a case of it...the cure of course is much more work...or putting his boots outside and pouring water over them until they are hard and fast connected to the ground...since walking the plank or keelhauling is not an option. :pirate:
Tidus44
umbriferous: casting or making shade - a phenomenon that occurred today because the sun came out. Pretty normal morning today - get up and go to work as usual. About 1/2 way to work I realize it is much brighter out and I don't actually need the car head lights to be "on". Moment of panic (I"M LATE!) as I look at my watch and the clock on the dash and its 6:55 am, but its way too bright out for that early in the morning. Pull into the parking lot right behind the Chief's secretary and as we get out of our respective cars we both ask each other at exactly the same time - "What time do you have?". 7:00 am. Inside she checks the network time and I look at the dispatch clock. 7:02am.1/2 the crew coming in feel the same way, it was too bright for 7 am and thought they were late. It seems that the reason is the past week it has been heavily overcast and it has snowed almost every day (we got almost 50cm in 4 days) and this morning there wasn't a cloud in the sky. The rapidly approaching vernal equinox seems to have crept up on us under cover of cloud and caught us by surprise. Don't forget to change your clock to "spring" ahead one hour on 9 March - and check your smoke alarm. Where I live, no DST so no loss of that precious hour of sleep for me Sunday and I get to drive to and from work in daylight - the first time since late November. AaronOfMpls
nychthemeron -- any period of 24 consecutive hours; approximately a day and a night Your talk of DST reminded me of that one, Tidus. For those of us springing forward, any nychthemeron that spans 2:00:00 AM local time on Sunday 2014-04-09 will start and end in different-numbered hours.
