Tidus44
Nice car. I have owned one car in my life, the first vehicle I ever bought, a 1972 Lotus Europa. Someone purloined it (to take dishonestly; steal; filch; pilfer) and left it upside down in a ditch. Owned Rovers and Jeeps ever since.
Aurielius
Nostalgia- a wistful desire to return in thought or in fact to a former time in one's life. This was my first real new car a Datsun 200sx...I fell in love with from the first moment I slide behind the wheel. After that always had one type or another of sports car..though my wife hated the fact they were useless to go shopping in but on the road..another matter altogether. Imagine two setters, a ski rack, Christmas presents and a wife traveling north to Vermont every December.Had to find a pic online since all mine are not digital but color and model are the same excepting the spoiler mine was more raised ( and therefor more useful).http://i.imgur.com/DvFDYId.jpg?
Tidus44
I like cars and have seriously considered purchasing a Jaguar S and an Aston-Martin Vantage in the past, but I find I don't fit very well inside them (or other cars) and they are not all that suited to taking the dogs with me nor would they be all that much fun to drive between October and April. Besides, most cars won't tow the boat or the snowmobile trailer. Got to go to work even though I am suffering from clinomania (the desire to remain in bed) this morning. 16 new students start Officer classes Monday and today is their course orientation. Worst part is I don't even have a prank prepared to pull on them.
AaronOfMpls
(Continuing the earlier theme...) jalopy -- an old, worn-out car. My first car was definitely one of these: a mark 2-era VW Jetta (I forget what year, exactly -- probably 1986 or '87) with a peed-in-the-silver-paint champagne exterior and brown-checkered tablecloth material as interior roof upholstery. It was no longer very freeway-capable, but that wasn't a problem at the time, as I was still on my learner's permit and not very freeway-capable myself yet. My last car (before my current one) was definitely one too by the time I got rid of it in 2008: a 1992 VW Passat with the engine and (automatic) transmission from a 1990 VW Passat I'd had previously. (Despite being totaled in big multi-car pileup, those parts were in much better shape than the ones the '92 came with.) Though it was in decent shape when I got it in 2003 (and was even better after the transplant), by mid-2008 pretty much everything had started to go wrong with it, and I got rid of it soon after. Aurielius
Yar- denoting swiftness and grace, usually refers to a sailing vessel. I still sink money into that bottomless pit of a sloop rigged 34 footer I call the Pegasus. After flying it's the most fun a man can have outside the bedroom....especially if you sail with only a dog as first mate it's more peaceful also...*looks carefully over his shoulder to make sure she is not near.*Old picture..old dog..old friend....and of course old skipper.http://imageshack.com/a/img708/9869/sailingsetters.jpg
Tidus44
I had a Springer Spaniel who suffered from naupathia (sea sickness) which I didn't think was possible, but he certainly didn't like being on a boat, but perhaps it was just stress that made him sick. His brother just loved boats, but I had to tether him as he would see a bird drop into the water and try and go retrieve it. Ah yes B.O.A.T, acronym of Bring Out Another Thousand - quite familiar with that myself. No places to sail where I am so instead I console myself with a Bayliner runabout. http://i1121.photobucket.com/albums/l511/ffa1mf/Stuff/Boat.jpg
Aurielius
Juxtapositional Irony- intended meaning of a statement differs from the meaning that the words appear to express.http://i.imgur.com/6tnOoF8.jpg
Tidus44
A good example of gezellig - the comfortable feeling that one has when surrounded by friends. Its a familiar picture - I have two hanging in my office that are pretty much identical. Over an 18 year period my investigation team and I burned at least two buildings a year and one memorable year we burned a complete village of 5 houses, a community hall, a 12 room hotel, a bank and a 5 room school. Always good training, but more dangerous than playing with nitroglycerine.

Tidus44
Malaysia Airlines ad = OUCH! sterracle; performance; strange things or pranks. Speaking of, I know 5 fire fighters who up until this morning did not know that the powdered cheese package from a Kraft Dinner mixed in water looks exactly like orange juice. Unfortunately, I Iearned that if a mechanic asks you on April Fools to "can you give me a hand and hold this fog lamp for a sec", don't do it. My hand is still tingling and slightly numb.
