blacksupernova
Soul Trap has a specific hit effect model which called SoulTrapTargetEffects in Miscellaneous\Art Objects section. The model file is SoulTrapTargetEffects.nif. The effect is similar to armor spell but purple instead of green. While the effect can be previewed fine in the Creation Kit, it does not work in game. The problem lies in the nif file. I tried to make it work but because of my very limited knowledge of working with nifskope, it proved fruitless no matter what. Could some one take a look at the file and see what cause the problem? I would be grateful.Thank you for your time.
Grabstein
What, exactly, do you mean by "it does not work in game"? Is there no visible effect, or does the effect/spell fail or not go off? If you're attempting to alter the texture of the effect, make sure that the pathways match, ie in NifSkope check to see that the texture path is actually where the texture is. Have you tried to edit any other models with NifSkope? Are you having this issue with anything else?
blacksupernova
No, I am not creating the effect, the hit effect for Soul Trap has already exist but it does not play in game. As you know, when you cast the soul trap spell at something, the actor only glowed in purple membrane. It is supposed that an effect similar to Oakflesh spell will be played when the spell hit, but it never happens because there's something wrong with the model file (SoulTrapTargetEffects.nif). What I am trying is to find what's wrong with it and how to fix it so that the effect will work properly in game.
Grabstein
*Oh*. Okay. I'll be honest, I never noticed. Unfortunately, I cannot take a look at that, until this evening. I shall, if no one else is able to figure this out before then.
Grabstein
Basically, what it looks like is that the entire thing is done in a gray scale. I've found a couple of places where textures are listed but I am unable to change them.
blacksupernova
Thanks for the response, I am really appreciated. Can you explain more about the problem? Is there any way to fix it?
Grabstein
I'll have to do more tinkering. I'm not sure, currently. It *does* seem the effect goes off, it's just not visible, most likely due to the gray scale. I'm starting to wonder if it *is* "fixable". Perhaps, the effect just doesn't show, due to system settings? Have you tried tweaking the game system settings?
blacksupernova
I don't think it's game setting, There are many other hit effects used for other spells (muffle, cloaks, turn undead, healing, etc.) all of them work properly. The one for Soul trap is the only one that does not.
blacksupernova
I finally made it it work! The model was missing the string pointing to a havok file. After adding it, the effect works perfectly in game. Thanks again for all your help!
