First i would download one of the best free uninstalling programs Revouninstaller,make sure you do an advanced uninstall so that all the registry settings gets deleted.

 

Find a program to defrag your hard drive,I think advanced systemcare would be a good choice he he their tools are a bit fake but their defragmentation is good.

 

 

Before i go on i would like to know how your game crashes, does it freeze or crash to desktop,do you only get to the menu or do you get in-game, try right click oblivion exe choose properties choose compability and try the different compability modes namely the vista and xp ones, what kind of windows are you using,

 

I really need some more information on this, youll see a pc is sometimes very complicated and so many things can go wrong,

 

With this little information i would suggest deleting everything in advanced mode with revouninstaller, a defragmentation of the hard drive where the game was installed, update your graphic drivers,reinstall the game outside C: and try to run it completely vanilla style.

 

Hope youll get it to work ;D post again with a more detailed description of the problem and i would like to know your pcs system specs.

First and foremost, thank you for your response. I appreciate the good will and willingness to spend your time to help others. Now for your requested info: The crash happens the same way every time, but not exactly at the same time. It does always happen before I can get to the menu/title screen and many times right after it starts loading from startup. After I click the exe. and it begins to load it freezes for a second, crashes to desktop and a little black box or screen maximizes and disappears very quickly, then my computer freezes with the message that the program is not responding. I can Ctr+Alt+Del to task manager to close it, so its not a true freeze, but everything is locked up until I close the program. I'm using windows 7 and I did not install it in the C drive.

 

I already uninstalled it...and defragmented with UltraDefrag, so should I reinstall it to uninstall it with revouninstaller? I updated my graphics driver and keep trying to run vanilla but I keep encountering the same problem. So puzzling. So there's the info and the specs below ( sorry for the long list, i copied it from dxdiag and I do not know how to hide/spoiler things....I have seen it many times but never had to do it myself). Let me know if I forgot anything or if you need anything else and thanks once again. Here's to PC game modding!

Ive been melting my head about this after not being able to see anything wrong on your event log.

 

i had a couple of issues in the past with a few games conflicting with some drivers, Do you have dvd supporting programs installed ?? like Cyberlink power dvd or any others (anything that supports your dvd drive ?)

 

any keyboard/mouse emulation programs ??? do you have any restore points (backups) so you can roll back changes to an earlier date ??

I can't tell you how much I appreciate the help from both you and thomriis. It is working again, for now. Time to delve back into the mod scene. I don't suppose you have a good link to an up-to-date wrye bash guide? Or the lastest stable version? I find so many....it's mind-boggling.

Yes, I believe I have cyberlink installed but I am not sure. I don't think any keyboard or mouse emulations...just the standard ones that came with my stuff. I actually don't have restore points..*sheepish* I know, big no-no, especially when messing with mods...but I just dont have the room on my harddrive... just to have Oblivion on is close to red and unfortunately there is not much I can do about it with deleting stuff or buying more space. So I have to make do with what I have. Boo-hoo, how sad, said the fat man to the starving cripple. haha. Anyway, thanks for the help and let me know if you figure out what the problem was so that I can avoid it in the future. Thanks again for your help. It's communities like this that make me proud to be a gamer.

Yes, I believe I have cyberlink installed but I am not sure. I don't think any keyboard or mouse emulations...just the standard ones that came with my stuff.
