Good difficulty mods?

Well, what good difficulty mods are there? By 'difficulty' I don't mean you can get 1-shotted by skeevers, I mean better AI + stuff. I know I could use the search function, but I'd like to know what ones you guys recommend

Also: are there any mods that make levelling up less grindy? Currently, it goes far too slowly to ever feel like you're making significant progress.

Combine Deadly Dragons, Dragon Combat Overhaul and Enhanced Mighty Dragons.

It took me an hour to beat the first dragon in Whiterun. Even with slightly OP companions. So much fun

Yeah, thats not really what i'm after. I don't want ultra OP enemies, I just want to make monster encounters less trivial.

Does anyone know of any mods to make levelling up less of a grind? I just did a quick search and I can't find anything that suits my needs (the only levelling mods I found made it more of a grind). Surely there must be at least one?

Skyre makes it easier to lvl up, wayfarer tree makes it so that you get skill increase just by walking, combines the lock picking and stealing, ect.

Also my mod does add in utra powerful enemies, they are pretty balanced

Well, there's plenty of mods you can triy. One is "Duel-Combat Realism" that greatly improves combat. You can also try Enhanced Enemy AI. IT's a fairly new mod but it works great. SkyRe is another one, although I don't personally use it for my own reasons. You want DCO and Deadly Dragons for Dragon encounters, and you may also want to try Enhanced Mighty Dragons and Dovahkriid. Also, Deadly Dragons comes with a plugin called "Deadly Monsters" in which you can tweak the damage, attributes and resistances of beasts/humanoids and so on. Immersive Creatures is great to add variet to your game, and "The Way of the Dovahkiin" is a great mod that allows enemis to disrupt you during fast travel, sleeping/waiting in dungeons, and adds bosses as well as many new armor sets. The recent "Civil War Overhaul" focuses specifically on the Civil War in all it's aspects, but it improves the AI of Stormcloaks/Imperials and makes the battles more challenging as well as adding more of them. Remember, that one is only for the Civil war. And there's Enhanced High Level Gameplay that makes the enemies stronger when you level up, so you don't get bored easily. Some other great ones include High Level Enemies, Deadly Combat, Ultimate Combat and Bellyaches new Dragon species. I have most of the ones I listed above installed, and even at high levels if I'm not careful I can easily die from a group of bandits. If you install a bunch of those mods, I recommend getting a follower mod like AFT or UFO(I think AFT is a lot better after trying both) so that you can have more followers and smarter ones as well, because it will help in the longrun. Hope I helped.

I second this.

This mod is great. Its as clean as a mod can be, because it uses no scripts and the differences are feelable.

There is no illogical resting and pausing of enemies anymore between two hits. They pursue you and hit you as often as they can if you are staggered and encountering more as one mob will force them to fight tactical (attacks from different sides, surrounding, flanking). In addition me seems mobs react much faster. Melee mobs for exammple try to get in close combat much faster.

LOL yea, being staggered heavily ... you're as good as dead when that happens when there's 2 or more people swarming on you

I play an archer... if I see some dude with a warhammer running at me and he doesnt die because im stoopid and miss a shot then I gotta run for my life because he'll beat the crap out of me  but then again I have a lot more tweaks than just that mod...

I play on Adept to have NPC's stats at a 100% base so I'm able to balance from there more easily.

I run for combat and/or game mechanics changes -

  • Skyrim Redone
  • Enhanced Enemy AI (that link I posted) loaded after it
  • SkyTweak to make sneaking a whole lot harder (The max Sneak I can get is 20% effectiveness and detection level of sound at 130% and in light 90%... (vanilla values are I think 30% and 10% :\) In daytime in line of sight I cannot use sneak, I put it so high I'm always detected no matter) so yea, slow moving in shadows making no sound or I'm dead... I like it like that)
  • SkyTweak equalize the amount of Health/Damage NPC has compared to player (so we are equal) to level the playing field and to ensure you dont end up fighting against a bandit with 9000 health who takes arrow after arrow after arrow and doesnt get a scratch... he then hits you once with whatever and you die immediately :\ ... no way that is called "immersive"
  • Skyrim Community Uncapper to boost my level gain but NOT to boost my perk gains and to reduce the amount of Health/Stamina/Magicka per gained level... so I level up faster, but so do NPC's who get to use better stuff pretty fast, SkyTweak can do that too (I think?), but I already set the Uncapper up, so whatever
  • Some mods that allow NPC's better spells, using potions, leveled lists for better armors/weapons... etc
