JohnsonDown
Hello! I've been thinking, there are some lore friendly armors out there on Nexus. But somehow I still think a lot of them are just "too much", so how about just recreating the original Skyrim armors? For example let's take the Stormcloak armor, or any Guard armor. I can see the armor has a chainmail, gambeson and the cape of the hold, ( or whatever this is), like stormcloaks have a blue one, Solitude guards have red ones etc.. I've never worked with nif scope or whatever you need to model the objects, so I've no idea if this is even possible. So just take "off" the cape and the gambeson and make it each an indepentent own a part of the armor or just the armor itself. You can wear the chainmail without the gambeson or the cape or if you want you can wear it all together and so on. It would give a lot of more opportunities to customize your character with only the vanilla armors.I suppose if you take away the cape you have to finish the rest of the armor yourself, so you would have a "start" of the gambeson and had to finish the rest yourself, same for the chainmail, there is even more work I think, am I right with this guess? A little example of what I want to tell you, here:http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/35094/?The Aesir Armor by Omesean. It's a little bit too much for my taste, but still the idea is great! Hopefully someone can explain to me if this is possible and tell me, what do you think of this idea? Do you like it, what do you have in mind about this? And sorry if there is already a mod like that. Tehandyman
This would have to be a very big project. There are already mods that do something similar to this by splitting up parts of vanilla armors so you can wear them separately (Bandoliers Mod/ Pauldrons, Cuirasses, and Greaves Mod). Those mods just split apart the shoulder pads and upper and lower of armors so you can mix and match. But as for things that overlap like the guard armor that you are referring to, that would require a lot of work to recreate the areas that were stripped apart. And there would be the obvious problem of horrendous clipping issues if you were to mix and match these "armor layers" with other armors. All in all, I think this mod is interesting but kind of impractical and hard to make. If I were you I would just settle for the Pauldrons and Greaves Mod and other standalone mods like chainmail armor or things like that.
JohnsonDown
Oh okay, I thought so but when I see all the armor mods out there they also seem to be build from scratch. That's probably a lot of work, sure, but not more then you would spend on finishing a vanilla armor, am I right? I know that the "stacking" of armor layers would be quite complicated but it would be at least cool to finish the different layers, which I mentioned earlier, to increase the variety ingame with vanilla armors.(Just normal armors, no stacking, no layers, just different armors which you can wear individual.) There is a kind of gambeson armor in Dawnguard but with a lot of "extras", I just wish some simple lore friendly armors with no "faction affiliation".That's how I came with the idea to "take appart" the vanilla armors. I think I can forget the different stacking armor layer mod and the Bandoliers Mod is great, but I don't know about the Pauldrons and Graves Mod, didn't find anything intressting so far on Nexus. Anyway thanks for your help. :)
