EVE + RH_IronSights problem

Hi,

I'm dealing with the following problem:

I have both EVE and RH_Ironsights installed (including the RH_Ironsights_EVE_Bridge) and everything is working fine except for one little thing.

The A3-21 Plasma Rifle. As some of you might know, EVE changes the looks of this weapon, but by doing so it has created a problem if you try to look down the sights a.k.a. zoom in with the weapon.

The weapon almost completly blocks the screen because this texture/mesh (I really don't know that stuff) is different from the original A3-21's (I think that's also the one RH_Ironsights is using).

So, how do I fix this, I would like it to be able to look down the sights, but if that's impossible how do I "turn off" RH_Ironsights for this specific weapon?

I would like to keep both mods activated.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's my load order, I'm using NMM:

There may not actually be a fix for this. The bridge files work pretty well, but they are not perfect. There's a few weapons that are mis-aligned or completely overlooked. I have never tried to create my own ironsights but from my experience certain guns will not work no matter what you do. I think it has to do with the way your character holds a certain weapon. If a weapon is too tall then the ironsights stare at the butt of the gun, if the weapon is too short the ironsights will be below where the actual crosshair is firing. I think the only way to fix it is to modify the weapon sights yourself by moving the gun model up or down in the player's hand. Rogue has a tutorial on his rh ironsights page I think. I've got the same problem as you and after weeks of q&a I gave up. A lot of these problems can be fixed by moving the bridge patches around. Also Install order counts too. You should install rh ironsights before installing EVE and finally install the bridge files last overwriting everything along the way. That install order might not necessarily be optimal, but it seems to work for me. Hopefully someone can give you something more than what I just said.

BTW I noticed your patch is called Merged Patch 2.1.esp... LOL you are the first person I've ever seen to give a version number for their merged patch. That's great.

Edit: Wait... whoa, you got 2 merged patches. That can't be good. Is there a reason you made 2 merged patches?

I'm not sure because I don't use the Unofficial FO3 Patch but in my experience moving any unofficial patches more toward the top of your load order right under the last esm works pretty well. There's a few reasons why this is usually a good idea, but I'm not going to explain it, it would take a while... it has to do with records being overwritten then being called on by a totally different mod. Try to move it up high, then remake your patch and see what happens. I doubt that will have a huge impact on your ironsights, but fallout is one of those games that makes you scratch your head in wonder at how little sense some of it makes. I'm thinking some of your weapon's nifs are going to need to be edited to be compatible with rh-ironsights. I don't know how to do it but there's a tutorial on rh-ironsights page. You load order seems okay. Do you use BOSS at all?

As much as I love the merged patch version numbers (lol) it might be a good idea to do away with them. See when you save your game it hard codes your mods into your save file. If you remove a mod mid play your save file will still try and search for it and a lot of times this will cause corruption, glitches, and even crashes. By changing the version number you are writing a new mod entry into your save file when it should have been overwritten. The game will continuously look for your old merged patch even though you updated it simply because the file names are different. So right now your game might be searching for MergedPatch.esp but that has been removed and replaced with MergedPatch2.1.esp. The game isn't smart enough to understand that it isn't a new mod, but rather just an update. Finally, because of what I just wrote, it would be beneficial to reinstall all mods and recreate a new patch on a brand new character. Scrap your old save file, I can almost guarantee it is corrupt to an extent. This won't help your ironsights per se but it will stop a multitude of seemingly random crashes while you play and is a good tip to live by.

Just think of it like this, if you ever load a save game and the game pops up that message warning you that your save is missing files then you will have problems. If you want to add mods to a game that's fine. But removing mods from a game is a no no for the most part. The exception being texture mods and mods that do not contain an esm/esp, feel free to add and remove those all day. Keep a save file from b4 u try out a mod, then try it for a while and if you like it cool, if not then uninstall the mod and reload the last save b4 u added the mod. That's the only way to guarantee your save game.

For the record I installed EVE before RH-Ironsights but I don't use energy weapons anyway. I don't know if you are familiar with Gopher's modding fallout series but maybe you should check it out. It may answer questions you didn't even know you had. http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL77ECC4B6194E1685

Thanks for the info, I checked the UOF3 Patch's readme, but it doesn't specify a place to load the .esp. That's why it is at bottom.

Yes, I use BOSS and the FO3Edit to check for conflicts and load orders, BOSS didn't recognize the UOF3 Patch, because this is the latest release (or at least, that's why I think it doesn't recognize it).

If you think it could be an issue, I will get rid of the numbered merged patch, better safe than sorry right?

The only weapon I've encountered that doesn't work with RH_Ironsights so far is the A3-21 Plasma Rifle, the rest seems to be okay. When I have some more time on my hands I'll try to alter the nif of that weapon and I'll look up that tutorial.

I've heard of Gopher before and watched a few videos of his, but I never took the time to watch all. I've seen the one about BOSS and the one about FO3Edit. I already was aware of BOSS since I've used for Oblivion as well, but the video about FO3Edit was really helpful into understanding (a bit about) the program.

Thanks for your time and help.

No problem. In one of his newer FO3 videos he installs RH-Ironsights on top of EVE and WMK. The only drawback is he is using the Paradox Ignition version of EVE and RH-Ironsights meaning you would have to go to the Paradox Ignition mod page and download and follow their instructions. It will take a short while to setup if you follow that guide. But if you follow his advice you can get it working as well as he has his. I don't use the PI versions of those mods, especially now that EVE was updated in one file.
