ub3rman123
Basically, I want to create a green Draugr. I've been toying around with it for a while now, but I'm tangled up in the layers of skins and races. Can anyone provide a step-by-step guide on how to make a new creature that uses the same mesh but a different texture in Skyrim? I swear, it was so comparatively easy in Oblivion... Senviro
Let's play follow the leader. For the texture: Firstly, get FO3 Archive ---> http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/34/? Then learn this to get the creature texture from Skyrim's Textures.bsa | | | | | V V V V V http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/How_to_extract_BSA_files_using_FO3_Archive Then, use this to convert the .DDS format into a .JPG or .BMP image for photoshop ---> Paint.Net (If you don't have photoshop, learn how to use Paint.Net.) Now, load the texture in Photoshop and press Ctrl+U. Then adjust the color to the green you want. Save it. Then load it into Paint.net. Then save it as a .DDS image with a name different than the original. YOU NOW HAVE A NEW TEXTURE Mesh time: Use FO3 Archive to extract the monster's mesh. (The mesh for the monster with the texture you just edited.) Extract the .Nif model of said creature. Download Nifskope ---> http://niftools.sourceforge.net/wiki/NifSkope Open your .Nif monster mesh. Once it's loaded, CLICK the first arrow in the left window. It usually says "0 NiNode." Be sure you click that first. Then, click on the monster in the 3D window. In the left, one area should turn BLUE. You now have the monster selected. Click the arrow beside the now selected node. It should expand for more. Now click "BSLightingShaderProperty," Then select "BSShaderTextureSet" In the window below the "Block List" window that you've just been using to select nodes, under "Block details," click the arrow beside "Textures." A list should appear. Find the texture that is ONLY THE TEXTURE, not the _msn.dds or _sk.dds, just the .DDS texture. Now, click the PURPLE FLOWER beside the texture. Then change it to the texture you just made. Now, save it as a new .nif file. Once it's saved... YOU HAVE A NEW CREATURE MODEL Hurray... And now... finally... load up the CK and do... whatever that involves. And you're done. Alternatively, just follow the first steps and make a new texture, then load the CK, find a Draugr, then change it's texture... wherever that's done in the CK. No idea, I'm outta things to say. Good luck with that.
ub3rman123
Thanks for the guide! Unfortunately, it was the Creation Kit side of things I was having difficulty figuring out. I'll continue to search and see if there's a tutorial for that.
blacksupernova
You can use TextureSet to change the texture of draugr without having to create new nif mesh.
ub3rman123
Where can that be done? It's not on the NPC's traits, nor is it under the NPC's race.
blacksupernova
After you make TextureSet, find NakedDraugrBodyAA(0x) in ArmorAddon, choose Select in Biped Object, Model Data window will be opened. In Alternate Textures section, choose any part you want to retexture and link to your TextureSet. It is also possible to make entire new race of green draugr if you want should you want to keep other draugr intact.
ub3rman123
That worked, thanks! I didn't notice the ArmorAddon section.
