Smitty9542
Reinstalled Fo3 GOTY, tried to make it work by downloading fixes and stuff, eventually uninstalled everything and remembered I should've deleted the .ini files in My Documents. Did that, started the game, finally got to the main menu, yay. So I plugged in FOSE, Stutter Remover, and the Windows Live Disabler, and tested it one more time before I plug in about 10 gigs of mods. I open it up, wipe off the drool because of how fast it loads compared to FNV, and click New Game. The continue and load buttons are greyed out, and it looks strange with a missing menu button (Windows Live), but I continue anyways. "Would you like to start a new game?" Yes, of course. I click yes, and... AND!!! ..... Nothing. It didn't crash, it didn't freeze, just nothing happened. It's like I clicked no instead of yes. I try it a few more times before restarting the game, but it still doesn't work. Does anyone have any idea? The only spec that really matters, is that I'm using Windows 7, and I'm playing via disc.(because steam apparently doesn't want me to activate my product, because they don't have Fallout 3 \o/) Edit: Oh, and I've tried removing Windows Live Disabler to see if that fixed anything, and it didn't, Edited July 4, 2013 by Smitty9542
M48A5
Uninstall the game and delete any and all files associated with Fallout 3. Reinstall the game in any location on your hard drive other than Default (Program Files). Start the game and exit. This will create the .ini files you need to change. The only spec that does matter are the system requirements listed on the back of the Fallout 3 box. If you do not meet or exceed them, the game will never work.Since you are running FOSE, you do not need the GFWL Disabler, Fose disables GFWL.Follow the instructions on this page: http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1465357-installing-fallout-3-with-windows-78-and-xp/
Smitty9542
I have it installed on the other half of my partitioned drive, and my games does meet the specifications. It worked before I reinstalled it, and the .ini files have already been tweaked and adjusted to meet my machine's specs, following the bible this website gives me. http://www.tweakguides.com/Fallout3_8.html
Smitty9542
So I downloaded a saved game from the internet, and decided to load a game instead of make a new one. It was one that saved before you left the vault. Quite a bit was off, not only was the dialogue missing, some of the text was messed up, http://i.imgur.com/aOHbqZd.png ...Really, What?!!?I'm going to have to reinstall it, aren't I? That means using a shared network disc drive again, because the one in my computer is broken, and it's going to take a while to do all of that Dx Edited July 4, 2013 by Smitty9542
Smitty9542
So after a whole day of tinkering and pulling my hair out, I fixed it. For the original issue, I fixed it by reinstalling. Putting a different save in my documents just showed me how corrupted the game was, and reinstalling was the only logical course of action. However, the new problem is that I don't have a disk drive.I went to my uncles, borrowed his computer, and his internet. Plugged both our computers via ethernet cord into the router, shared is CD drive over the network, and installed Fo3 + the DLC. Updated it to 1.7, plugged in FOSE, and tried to start it, but I ran into a minor roadblock... Wrong disc inserted. Please insert the original "Fallout 3" CD/DVD.Please have a look at http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=wrongdisc for further, more detailed information. This kind of ticked me off a tad. I tried opening it through FOMM to try and bypass this, because using Fallout3.exe still had the popup. I figure this is because it needs to read your system before it starts. I figure this because when checking my settings in FOMM, I noticed all the fields were forced 0 or empty. Including where it should show my graphics card.I dug around in my recycling bin, and thankfully I found an old backup for my .ini files, which from what I understanding is where they store that information. Put that into my documents, started FOSE, and voila! The game started up. I made a new game just fine, the files and audio weren't corrupt, everything worked as it should, and I am happy.I'll post this here so if other people have the same problem, here is the fix. If you're a mod, you can lock this thread, unless you have more input to add, like tags so other people can find this.
