I'm uninstalling Skyrim, but I have NMM, too.

I know some of you probably are frowning at this post, but I have grown tired of Skyrim and I really don't feel like replaying it. It's been on my computer for a long time taking up a lot of space, which I want for other games. Thing is, I have mods installed and I was wondering if I need to do anything special to make sure that when I delete the game through Steam that nothing is left behind or causes issues. Also if I ever decide to reinstall the game I assume I have to reinstall all my mods, correct? I'd probably end up corrupting most of my saves I imagine.

If you're uninstalling skyrim, your saves are gone. Don't even try. Uninstalling NMM is separate from removing skyrim from your computer. It's not a part of skyrim.

Er, actually if you back everything up properly then you won't lose anything.

If you want it so that you have the option to return to a modded Skyrim then you'll need to backup any save games (found in your documents folder and My Games\Skyrim\Saves) and all the mods you have. To do the latter simply go to NMMs designated download directory and copy any active mods to an external source (USB stick, External HDD etc). Ensure that if you installed any mods without NMM (loose files) then you manually find and back these files up too. I'd also recommend taking a picture or two of NMMs main screen just as a record of which mods you currently have active.

Once you have everything backed up then the cleanest way to remove everything is to deactivate all the mods via NMM, then manually delete the mods from NMMs download directory, then uninstall the game via Steam. If you don't want NMM for any other games' use then uninstall it too. If you happen to have any files left over then manually navigate to either Skyrim and / or NMM directories and simply delete anything that's present.

As for save games -they call upon any .esp and .esm based mods that are active at the time. As long as you reinstall any mods that were in use which are tied to a particular save game then everything will work fine with that save.

I've done all this several times and the only issue I've experienced is forgetting to reinstall a mod, which was my fault - hence why I recommend making a record of all active mods in NMM for reference.

They meant "as good as gone" since it will be impossible to salvage a heavily modded save after a complete reinstall with different mods. The only option would be getting the exact same mods again, and unless someone keeps a categorized list with zipped files like I do, it's not likely to happen.

Well that's kinda obvious really, but the OP was questioning the effect of returning to an old save and the impact that has on installed mods, which I believe I clarified.

Which is what I already stated, and the likelyhood is based purely on the users knowledge and intentions, which I can only and did assist with the former.
