jedidia
Well, I'm one of those who never got around installing XP, so I'm still on W2K (and I sure won't change it untill W7 comes out). Anyways, it was some hassle to get fallout to run on W2k, but in the end it worked perfectly. Aparently I had a whole lot less crashes than many other people here. Now I patched up to version 1.1, to get FOSE to run... and looky here what pops up: "ordinal 5360 not located in the dynamic link library xlive.dll" I did some search on it and aparently it needs the newest version of xlive. (a shame the dll doesn't get installed with the patch, really... this is rather annoying). Of course I can't install the newest version of windows live on my 2k, so I went on looking if I could find the newest version of the xlive.dll as a seperate download, but the search proved futile. So, if anyone got a link where I can download it, or anyone could send me the xlive.dll from his windows live installement, I would be very gratefull! (just as a preemptive remark: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?xlive does NOT work, the file is a fake. Neither is it a signed dll (which makes it useless anyways) nor is there anything in it. I opened it with my Hexeditor, and there's nothing but zeroes)
jedidia
Oh well, never mind... I obtained the dll using my wifes laptop (had completely forgotten that that was around too...), but it's only the start of the trouble. The game wants more and more dlls, until it finally reveals that it is not compatible with the W2k SP4 ntdll.dll... and that's where the story ends. They sure messed things up good with that patch. I wonder why the hell they patched things that were not really helping the game, but just improving the live support. Oh well, I guess it's things you have to live with when you have an outdated system... *sigh* no fose for me, then...
Skotte
If you just want the .dll for using FOSE & not interested in the "LIVE" service there is a "Dummy" dll available here look for the "g4wl fix" & put the .dll in your "Fallout 3" folder & you should be good to go.
