M48A5
If you have installed the game correctly, you will have on your computer something like this: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout 3 goty. Within this will be your Fallout 3 application. Depending on how you have your files set up, you may or may not be displaying the file extensions, ie: .exe, .dll, .fx, etc. You should look for Fallout3 and to the right under the heading "Type" it will be listed as "Application". This is your Fallout3.exe file that you must have to start the game. Copy the FOSE files into the same folder that has this Fallout3 file in it. pkleiss
Hey Avenger20... I just installed the steam version of Skyrim, so i see what you mean about the icon pointing to a URL. But still, as M48AS stated, you should have a Steam folder somewhere on your PC. If you can't find Fallout3.exe, try searching for the folder SteamApps. Under that folder you should have a Common folder, and under that you should have a Fallout3 (or Fallout3 Goty) folder. Inside that folder is where you need to install FOSE. I would be very interested to know the contents of that Fallout 3 sub-folder as that is where your fallout3.exe MUST be in order for you to be able to launch the game. Avenger20
Yes, I know that folder, I have the data folder inside the fallout 3 goty folder, with the windows 7 d3d9.dll fix. That is all, with mods loaded in nexus mod manager
pkleiss
Well, FOSE will look for the exe in that folder in order to launch. If it isn't there and it is no where on your PC, I am stumped. If you were really actually loading the game over the internet, it would take forever to start and be filled with massive lag as it waits for content updates as you load new cells. I just can't believe that is what is happening. Is it possible that somehow the files in that folder have been flagged as hidden? I still use XP and with XP I can see my hidden files and folders by selecting Tools -> Folder Options ->View (tab) from any folder window. Then clicking on the Show Hidden Files or Folders Radio button under the Hidden Files and Folders sub-folder. If you are using a newer OS, I'm sure you can google how to show hidden files using your OS. Though, I think there is an option to show hidden files and folders when doing a search as well, so, who knows what is happening. :wallbash:

pkleiss
Another thing you can try is to search your registry for the fallout3.exe and see (if it's there) what the path is. I did this myself, just to test, but then again, I have the Fallout 3 retail CD version. But it also worked for Skyrim (TesV.exe) which I do have from steam. Just in case you don't know how to open the registry... File-> Run -> Regedit(again, this is for XP. I don't know if it's any different for Win 7 or 8.) luthienanarion
pkleiss: I didn't mean to offend you with my previous comment. I see a lot of wild things stated about Steam on these forums, but the idea that an executable isn't stored locally struck me in a particularly odd way. Pay no heed. For Win7 and Win8, the registry editor is regedt32. Note that the lack of an I in "edit" is correct, as the filename adheres to the old "8.3" limitation. As for Avenger20's missing executable, did you install the game in a non-English language? I noticed that your error message refers to the German "no gore" version (fallout3ng.exe), so this link may be relevant to getting it working: http://steamcommunity.com/app/22370/discussions/0/882966056919003127/
pkleiss
Hey Luth... No worries mate. It's all good. I couldn't imagine that was the case either, but since I had never used steam, until very recently with Skyrim, I had no idea what kind of shenanigans they might they to pull in the name of product security. I seem to recall that back in the day when Fallout 3 was popular, that steam users had twice as many problems as non-steam users. It made me very wary of ever getting or using steam. I wonder just how much Steam paid/offered to Beth to get that exclusivity contract... I am so intrigued by this whole missing executable thing, that if the OP ever returns, I am going to offer a Skype/Teamviewer session to him to find out.
