LargeStyle
Those listed mods above are fine, but they come with more instructions... simply clicking -> download -> install & forget is not going to work for the majority of those mods ... To a certain extent that's stating the obvious really. I've already stated / advised that people read mod description pages and be considerate towards what they're downloading - I can't do any more than that. I however fail to see how simply installing these mods will cause most of them to have problems as you've stated? and some of those can cause major issues when installed on an already modded game because they are very basic and should be installed before anything else, require patches to be compatible with other mods... Again, I can only go so far. Plus, although I agree it's good practice to install certain mods before others, you can really still install whichever mods you want and in which order that you want and tell NMM how to organise the installations (overwrite x mod, leave y mod alone, manually approve / disapprove z files etc). The mods I listed weren't listed in any particular order either as it wasn't and isn't intended to be a "new people download all these mods" instruction, I'm just bringing people up to speed with the basics. I also did mention that they're probably not going to get everything perfect first time around, and for some reason you seem to think that they will? No disrespect but put it this way, some people need more help than others. (deadly spell impacts for instance is not tolerant at all with other texture replacers... even uninstalling the mod while any spell impact is in your screen ruins your save game). That's complete bull. Agreed you won't be able to load game save if there are impacts on the screen (same for the footprints mod too) but it doesn't actually harm the save - you just can't use it in that state. The user would then have to reinstall DSI mod, successfully load their save and resave it when there are no impacts around, then they can safely remove the mod - no save game ruining happening. I'm spending a huge amount of time providing people with very simple, very clear and very concise advice and I would appreciate it that if you want to contribute to this thread then you do the same otherwise you'll not only confuse other members but will attempt to invalidate my efforts. Thanks. Edited July 19, 2013 by LargeStyle
prod80
I was not trying to invalidate your efforts, in fact I more than welcome any effort you're making because you cannot educate people enough that are just starting with modding... I guess you know I hang out on these forums quite a bit (mainly on tech sup forum and mod sup) and I every day see so many posts about people seemingly random clicking links and installing whatever they find on the other side because it was mentioned somewhere by someone that it's good and needed. It takes a lot of time and frustration to deal with a broken game (not from me, but from the person new to modding) which could be prevented by reading carefully the mod page and not assuming what they read is gotta be right, just because they are new in modding Skyrim. It's not necessarily the person who posted the links fault at all... it's mostly the lack of patience to take the time to actually understand what you're doing by adding mods. I just like to point out that people really have to take whatever time it takes to read through a mod and understand it.. I was in no way intending to offend you :( sorry if you took read it that way... my English can be quite blunt, I'm not native and sometimes don't really know how to bring it right (and I write it during work, so not always have the time to write it down exactly how I want it). Anyway keep it up
LargeStyle
Thanks for your message, and no problems prod80  I too understand that modding Skyrim is complicated and takes time and patience to learn and guide others! I'll probably add more to this thread when I can think of another area of modding that other members would benefit to know... EDIT: BTW: I don't use any significant gameplay changing mods such as SkyRe + ReProccer, Alternate Start, Skyrim Community Uncapper, and Realistic Needs and Diseases so if any other experienced folks want to contribute any information and / or links regarding these types of mods then obviously feel free to do so.
