How to install the mods?

Recommended Posts

Sorry, I'm new to the modding thing on the computer with Fallout: New Vegas, so I'd like some help getting it in here. I looked it up on YouTube but that didn't really help because some of the folders they had I didn't have, so I thought it was something different. I have the Steam version of New Vegas and I would just like some help figuring out how to put them in, if someone would kindly tell me.

1) First, you have to prepare the "field"...

a. Backup your game (just copy the whole folder (Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas) in a safe location, also backup the Fallout.ini e FalloutPrefs.ini you can find in the Documents\My Games\FalloutNV, where the save files are located).

b. ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated new vegas (base configuration needed to run many mods) - follow the instruction
http://modsreloaded.com/new-vegas-archiveinvalidation-invalidated

c. NVSE extender (you will run the game using this, not the original launcher). Install the very last beta. Very easy how to just move some files inside the main Fallout director). A button will be present also over the Mod Manager you will install after.

2) Second, you would like to use a manager (is not necessary, everything could be done manually, but it is usefull to install e uninstall mods the easy and clean way, and keep track of them:

All the mods will be installed in the Data folder of Fallout New Vegas, the managers, keep track of what you install so that you can deactivate or uninstall what you dont' like or doesn't work properly without to have to remember every single files.
Which Manager? There are a few, the easiest one to me it's Nexus Mod Manager, or/and FOMM (Fallout Mod Manager). I do use bot, because the first is connected to Nexus website and you can download Nexus mods in an automatic way. The second because it have some feature that come handly, like "load order" (called Boss), conflict detector and such.

----

Once you have installed all those things you are ready to browse Nexus New Vegas website to start to download the Mods you like.

Raccomandation: read everything.

The End.

PS: When you become a bit more expert you will like to use also FNVEdit (http://modsreloaded.com/fnvedit) to find possible conflict and error and create your own patches.

Also, those are for Fallout 3, but many of them are usefull to watch for New Vegas as well:

And some of the folders that you don't have? That just means that you then go ahead and create them.

But to add one step that the above post left out....Your very first step is to read the description page thoroughly. Files that might be required to get the mod to work usually get listed there. Plus instructions on how to properly install the mod. NMM and FOMM are NOT ALWAYS used. Some mod authors don't package their mods up to install using them, so in those cases you will have to install the mod manually. Body replacer mods sometimes are like that.

Just read everything you can if you're not certain. Descriptions, Read Me files, and of course the comments section of the mod itself.
