TES5Edit Problems HHEELLPP!

Ok so I don't know much about TES5Edit but I went on a cleaning rampage and cleaned everything that said it had dirty files. Now Skyrim is very very laggy and when I swing something, the grunting noise that my character does is very delayed. Should I start a new game since I am working with a save that was done before all the cleaning happened or do I need to start again with a fresh copy of Skyrim and not clean anything?

Please help, I love this game but made the mistake of introducing my wife to it and she kicked me off the XBox, lol. Once I found the modding community for the PC version I am hooked, but I would like to play without CTDs, or lag.

I'm running an Asus G73JH so I know that it isn't my computer that is the problem.

have you already tried starting a new game?

and have you made backups of the cleaned mods? normally TES5EDIT does it automatically

just try starting a new game or reinstalling the mods

EDIT: did BOSS tell you to clean? you probably shouldnt do everything BOSS tells you, i had some running order issues because of it, BOSS is really great and all, but i still had to sort some mods manually^^

don't clean files unless you have to because of issues related to dirty files (which are actually quite rare)... you can solve a million + 1 problems simply by reordering your mods so they don't conflict the wrong way, but the correct mod that should win the conflict, wins.

BOSS even says that Skyrim.esm contains dirty edits... which is correct, but those are edits made on purpose so the game doesn't break (lazy solution ala Bethesda) and BOSS recommends cleaning them, which is bad.

Probably, if you didn't tick the box to make a backup of the files, you need to redownload the Skyrim official files and reinstall your cleaned mods and things will start working again... Then we can go ahead and try and solve your CTD issues ;)

Ah, ok. I was just having problems with CTD so I deleted everything relating to Skyrim then reinstalled everything. Selected a good set of graphics mods and then the mods that I played before the CTD issues. I was still having a CTD problem so I cleaned every file that BOSS said to clean and now everything is running with a lot of lag and the sounds are off. Maybe I will just clean the mods and not the original files from Bethesda.

Thank you both,

I really appreciate it.

Ok I started clean and now the graphics and sound are back to normal, WOOT!!! But there are still annoying CTDs and it seems as though there are a lot of errors with a BYOH (BuildYourOwnHouse) file and some file that suggests where the DLC1 starts, either at hunter location or vampire castle location. Any ideas?

I'm no profesional on solving problems, but if you set your configuration to enable logs, you can check them when you recieve CTDs. When you recieve a CTD, check your log, and at the end of it should be the problem. Copy the five last lines somewhere, and if you find yourself getting repeats on anything, THAT'S something you should see about cleaning or patching.

Avoid touching esm's, period, as well, and try cleaning ess's before esp's. It may just be a matter of filth from esp's piling into your savefile, gathering enough to cause a real problem where it normally would not.

PS: Dawnguard (DLC1) is very buggy, apparently. It's got a lot of issues. and it may be worthwhile to look into unofficial patches on it. BYOH comes up with errors, but they're sporadic for me, and never seem to be the primary cause, but rather a catalyst for something else's firepit. Just save often so you have a point to continue from and you'll likely be able to continue past the point where you crashed, and only eventually crash after a certain time after starting the game.

I don't know about Skyrim, but I remember back when I first got Morrowind, people would complain about random CTDs and the prescribed solution was save often--Saving, with Morrowind, apparently actually would clean the game a bit and allow it to continue running beyond the time limit you would normally face, as well as keeping numbered saves cleaner. It's worth a try if you haven't already been doing so.
