Dragonborn: What's with the argonian invasion?

This was referenced by the first elf you meet in Raven Rock but wasn't much of an explanation. Apparently Morrowind has been taken over by Black Marsh. Does anyone know anything about this from an TES wiki page or whatever?

After the Red Year (5th year of the 4th Age if i remember correctly) the Empowered Argonians invaded southern Morrowind. Their purpose was to exact revenge on the Dark Elves for centuries of slavery, and they largely destroyed both House Dres and House Telvanni. By the time Umbriel had appeared around 15 years later, however, the Argonians had mostly left.

The Argonians were only able to accomplish this because of 2 reasons. 1; the Red Year decimated the Dunmer, weakening House Telvanni and almost destroying House Redoran as well as causing ash falls and earthquakes all over Morrowind. 2; Many Argonian warriors had been given a blessing by the Hist in the form of a special sap which increased their strength, speed and ability to heal. The Hist did this to prepare the Argonians for the Oblivion Crisis, and it was because of this that the Argonians were the only ones to successfully fend off the Daedra, going so far as to invade the Dreadlands. After the Oblivion Crisis, these 'super Argonians' turned their newfound power on old enemies, throwing out the Empire and invading Morrowind.

That said, the Argonians did not take over. They made conquests, but Redoran was able to regroup and re-muster the Dunmer forces before finally halting the Argonian advance. Though it was sacked by the Argonians, there are indications in Skyrim that Mournhold has been at least partially rebuilt, even though House Redoran (the new rulers of Morrowind - And my personal favorite House :P - ) moved the capital to the city of Blacklight. Given the possition of Mournhold on the map, this seems to imply that the Dunmer once again control the majority of the southlands.

Finally... Don't use the TES Wiki. Use the UESP, it's far more informative. http://uesp.net/wiki/Main_Page
