Thedudeistt
Topic title. Oh s#*!, I misspelt the topic title. How do I edit this!? Either way, open cities was taken down? It's a big mod. Is it being updated or something? Edited August 28, 2021 by Thedudeistt
IsharaMeradin
Due to recent site changes some authors chose to have their work removed and hosted elsewhere. You can find Open Cities here:Open Cities for Skyrim LEOpen Cities for Skyrim SE
Thedudeistt
Much obliged. Is this the new directory where most taken-down modfiles will be found? Also, for the sake of my curiosity, where can I find the information that has these aforementioned changes displayed? I'm wondering what exactly is leading so many modders to change their 'home' modhosting website.
IsharaMeradin
Link to news article There is no one "new directory". Authors can choose to host their mods wherever they wish. AFK Mods does host a number of mods some of which were previously hosted here and some that are probably still hosted here. But not all mods that were removed due to the recent site changes can be found at AFK Mods.
Thedudeistt
Sad. I like being able to get everything in one place. Thanks for answering my queries.
crimson2018
I took a small vacation on the beautiful island of Vvanderfell and when i came back everything has gone south... Open Cities is probably the greatest mod-ification made for Skyrim in over a decade, and the most under-rated mod on Nexus. Ppl don't even understand what that mod is about ... it is now 9-10 years since it was released and they still think that it is about riding your horse into Solitude. You are of course way to young to know this, but when the Tribunal expansion came out people were enraged ... Mournhold was the first enclosed city in the Elder Scrolls history, and that took so much immersion and Open World feeling from what what was actually a very good expansion. Bethesda took out another another fundamental game mechanic, as a result ... 'Levitation', 'cause it would had look really silly to levitate between the improperly rendered districts or god forbid outside the city into the void. Then it came the crisis called 'Oblivion', and enclosed cities were something common for the new acquired action-game fandom, which saw noting immersion-breaking when waiting a minute or so to screen-transition into Anvil or Bravil. They where much more preoccupied to buy Horse Armor and to follow the map marker to their next 'objective' ... instead. In Skyrim, we got Open Cities ... to experience again that great mechanic, the sentiment that the player-character and the other NPCs are part of the same game-world, the same ecosystem and the same biosphere, just jumping the city walls and you are outside a second later engaging with the wildlife, shooting arrows behind the city wall to the travevelers outside, the same weather cycle in front or behind the gate, that true Open World feeling. If someone used OCS and then transition back to the buggy vanilla release, you are my hero, and i don't know how you do it. As a bonus in the 64-bit engine, you even gain 3-5 extra FPS in the Open City Space, because of how the memory is allocated per cell ... you just ran out of any excuses to not use this brilliant game-mechanic. Much more popular are instead, the so-called city-overhaul mods, that add completely irrelevant and inconsequential clutter and useless NPCs to the game to eat your FPS and completely change the city layout, design and immersion. Adding stuff is easy guys, a drunk 5 years old with the most basic knowledge of the CK ... can add stuff to the environment. That's why you have tens of mods that do the same stuff, and just one Open Cities Skyrim. This mod is unique in its goal, elegant in its implementation and very easy for other mods to patch or make a compatibility version (it's usually a copy / paste process) with a minimal effort, you won't see copy-cats with this one, like you see with the other mods, because these little mechanic, it requires an insane amount of work and tinkering, just to repair Bethesda's mistake. So Skyrim Nexus has lost its greatest mod released in the last 10 years either for LE or SE. Thedudeistt
I very much enjoy it, especially with things like skyrim at war and warzones, as this means that the battles extend into the cities without any door-opening interruptions. Freddy456
I"m not really mad about whatever ego made people leave... what really makes me mad is that now half the compatibility patches are gone... started a new load order, and yes i can get Open cities elsewhere, but now i have no access to about 20 patches( guessed at the number, but its alot)... I guess you can just "take my ball and go home" rules the interwebs Edited September 9, 2021 by Freddy456
